Mere Lodge is built on the edge of the lovely village of Hanley Swan, where it overlooks fields on two sides, and towards the Malvern Hills. It is at the end of a rural roadway so there is no passing traffic, although footpaths and a bridleway run alongside. Parking is immediately adjacent to the lodge, which is built of solid logs, has a grass roof, and a charming open entrance porch with disabled access. Very close to the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, it is an ideal place for a quiet retreat, for walking or cycling, or for visiting many places nearby; Worcester, Ledbury, Hereford, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Evesham, Pershore, Stratford etc.

About the Owner

Mere Lodge was built in 2009, the result of an ambition of mine to own a holiday home in the Malvern area. Having been in the property business for many years, I was keen to embark on a new-build which would be the product of my own experiences in spatial planning and design, and to build a comfortable, convenient and attractive cottage with a definite "holiday feel" about it. A timber lodge seemed to fit the bill, now constructed on a very small site but with a stunning view in a really rural location, but not at all isolated.

Most guests appreciate the nature of the building, the running of which I oversee personally together with a small team of helpers.

Home from home but with much better views!

The property was spotless and comfortable. Superb views from the patio doors over farmland up to the Malvern Hills. Quiet location within a lovely village with shop, butchers pub and village pond all within walking distance. Lots of nice extras supplied such as local paper, spring water in fridge and maps of area. Great for touring the area. We took the dog and went on some enjoyable walks around Malvern and Upton.

relaxing break

Property was clean & comfortable. Views to Malvern Hills were stunning. Even had flypast by Red Arrows. Lots of wildlife including very friendly birds. Local shop friendly staff. Very nice tub ice creams. Ideal spot for visiting local attractions. We went to Cotswold Farm Park (Adam Henson), well worth a visit. Also up the Malvern Hills. Weather was sunny & hot all week.

Reason for visit was to see if we could find our "honeymoon hotel " in Malvern where we stayed nearly 36 years ago. (It is still there).

Great place to stay and relax. We will definitely come again.

"Mere Lodge" Beautiful

We stayed at Mere Lodge for a week in July 2014 and have just booked again for 2 weeks in 2015. The cabin itself is beautiful, the facilities far exceeded our expectations it was like a mini home from home with a touch of being a little bit spoilt with the soft towels / lovely bedding and even a dishwasher ! The location is quiet and secluded and you wouldn't think you were a 10 minute walk to the local village or a 10 minute drive to the major motorways. We loved the dog walking paths and the easy road network system for some great days out including Bourton on the Water and Stratford. The local park is only 5 minutes away for the younger ones and I can highly recommend the local pub ! ... We enjoyed a fabulous week with some days just sat soaking up the sun and putting the kindles to good use on the patio area and some days venturing out all in all a very good holiday and great value for money. I would recommend this holiday to anyone. We are a family of 5 (including the dog) and we had a superb week.

Mere Lodge - lovely!

Very clean, comfortable & well equipped. Friendly people and very helpful owner etc.

Lovely area generally with everything to hand.

Very quiet, relaxing, almost as if time has passed by the area.

The views were just wonderful.

No criticism at all of any of the facilities but I might just warn any large future occupants that the doubles are 4 foot doubles.

Owner's Response: A very pleasing review, so grateful it was sent in. You are correct insofar as the beds are not king-sized (5' wide), as many are accustomed to - but they are standard double size ( i.e. 4" 6'). A peaceful getaway is a very apt description!

All enquiries to be directed to owner, through whom all bookings are made personally, by phone; a deposit of 50% of rental due for confirmation, the balance due one month prior to occupation, when directions of how to reach the lodge are provided. Availability can be viewed on this site.

Changeover Day:
Normal changeover day is Sunday, sometimes Saturday, however, lets are often available for shorter or longer periods upon negotiation.

Notes on prices:
Rates for specific dates are available in the pricing section; for information on periods other than complete weeks please apply direct to owner, also for availability.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Accommodation is all on one level; solid wooden floors throughout; internal walls solid timber; eco friendly lighting; plentiful supply of hot water via the latest pressurized system; heating is by fixed electric convector heaters plus supplementary heating when required. Outside: The lodge is surrounded mostly with stone drive, for parking, together with a large west-facing patio looking over fields towards the Malvern Hills. There is no passing traffic other than walkers and horse-riders. Wooden patio furniture, 4 tables plus large umbrella. Mobile barbecue supplied if requested. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning and laundry included in the rental cost; all bathroom and kitchen linen provided for 4 persons, and all bedding; changed on vacation of property, or after one week.
