Off the utility room at the back of the house is a small single room which can be rented at extra cost. No more than 5 including babies are ever allowed at this property. The pool is solar heated and has a cover, so can get quite warm and is surrounded by sunbathing terracing with loungers and built-in BBQ and outdoor table & chairs. About the Owner

This villa was built by my family in 1982. We have taken family holidays here with our parents, our children and now our grandchildren. The chorus from the back of the car as we drive from Faro airport is not 'are we there yet' it is 'how long before we are home'. Many of our visitors return year upon year, and thoroughly enjoy our home from home in the sun.

I personally have visited Praia da Luz each year since I was 8 years old and know the area and its people very well. I have seen many changes in the village as it expanded over the years, some better than others, but thankfully Luz still caters for all ages and remains an ideal location for a really good family holiday.

Perfect, just perfect

  • 5 of 5

Having just returned from Luz, I had to review this villa so that it is not overlooked when searching for the perfect place to stay in the Algarve.

It's very secluded, in an un-commercialised area, with excellent links to any aspect of the Algarve you might be looking for.

A short trip from the hustle and bustle of Lagos, or a short drive to a quiet beach. Surfing is within easy reach, as are the waterparks and zoo. If you would rather stay local, then Luz itself has lots to offer. Fantastic restaurants with outstanding food. A beautiful beach, not over crowded, even in peak season.

The Villa itself is fantastic. We do a villa holiday every year, and this one ranks as one of the better ones.

Its massively spacious, well cared for and adequately furnished.

The kitchen is very well equipped and the beds are very comfortable.

The gardens are beautiful, the pool, clean, modern, well kept and serviced.

Even with high winds, it is usable as the garden area is well sheltered.

I would like to give this Villa 5 stars. For me, it ticked all the boxes. But for the fact that it doesn't have air conditioning. However, after the first night, this didn't bother us (even with the daytime temperature hitting 37 degrees celcius)

We did not want to come home, and if it wasn't for RyanAir being such a pain, we would have extended our stay.

The interior photographs really don't do this place justice. I'm glad I chose this Villa, and as it states, you will struggle to get a place this close to the centre and the beach with a pool.

We can recommend several of the restaurants. The Mirage is especially good, but if you're willing to look for it Jakes Bistro is worth seeking out. Great music, ambience and above all, varied menu.

And don't be put off by what people say about Valentinos. The kids loved the food there.

The Villa is suitable for all. Young and old, its all on one level, with reasonable external access for people with disabilities, and if you are looking for a secluded escape, this is it.

Thank you

Owner's Response: Hello Barry, thanks for a lovely review, and I know you loved it because you wanted to stay another week! Alas Ryan Air wouldn't play ball and let you change your tickets. Very much hope to see you back again in 2014. I would just like to add for others out there, that although there isn't air con, there are fans for the bedrooms should it get a bit too warm. I have also just bought a dongle for the villa, so clients can have internet at the villa should they wish to use this facility. Thanks again Barry, and you and your family are welcome back anytime. Location

From the Owner

We already owned some land in the village which was bought by my forward thinking mother in the 1960's. This house was built on the south end of the plot in the early 1980's. Originally as a retirement home for my parents, but later as a family holiday home for the whole family to use. Luz, despite the changes and building boom of the 1990's, has retained much of its charm. The fabulous beach is ideal for children, with gently sloping sands (great for sandcastle building) down into the fresh Atlantic waters. Out of season it is calm and peaceful, during the months of July and August busy, bustling and vibrant. We love it in July as much as we do in February. All you want to do on a beach holiday; eating, drinking, playing and relaxing is there within a short stroll.

Nearest Airport : Faro at 86 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Lots of choice at 500 Metres Nearest Golf : Boa Vista at 5 Kilometres Nearest Train : Lagos at 10 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A22 at 10 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Lots of choice at 300 Metres Nearest Beach : Praia da Luz at 500 Metres Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

Praia da Luz means the beach of light. A large expanse of golden sand with a EU blue flag, the beach extends from the Rocha Negra (Black Rock) which is the core of an extinct primeval volcano, around a sweeping gentle bay to the flat topped rocks at the other end. Great rock pools at low tide for little ones to explore! It takes me about 7 minutes to walk down to the beach, and about 10 minutes uphill on the way back!

Travel:

Faro airport is nearest, although some people also use Lisbon. From Faro the drive is exactly 1 hour along the A22 motorway which is a toll road. From Lisbon it takes about 3 and a half hours to drive to the Algarve along the A1 motorway.

You do not need a car when staying at this villa, as everything is within walking distance. However, we recommend you hire one to explore the rest of the beautiful Algarve coast, and for that rather more mundane trip to the supermarket!

Distances:

Lagos town is only 6 kms from Luz. There are local taxis and buses.

Further Details:

The nearest supermarket is Baptista's which is just a couple of minutes away for your morning rolls. Also in the village are about 16 different restaurants plus numerous cafés and bars. There is a bank with ATM machine, and the supermarket has an ATM too. Taxis and buses are readily available from the main square by the church. Tennis and watersports are available locally, plus excursions and tours to attractions like Zoo Marine, Dolphin Safari, Boat trips, Horse Riding and the Zoo can be booked locally in the village and by the beach.

Facilities

From the Owner

There are many houses in Luz for rent, but most of those with private pools are NOT within reasonable walking distance of the beach and facilities. This one is, it really is! To get a small villa for 4, with private pool in this central location is rare - so early booking is recommended.
