About the Owner

We both live and work in Chichester in the UK, I as a low-energy buildings designer and builder and Sue as a Doctor. Recently we were lucky enough to take a sabbatical in order to restore the cabin and get to know Sicily and its people much better; all of which we thoroughly enjoyed doing.....as did our labradoodle Huxley when not chasing our locally acquired cats Sooty and Smudge!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Casa Isabella is perfect hideaway. Pick your own oranges for breakfast and eat whilst surveying the beautiful views, before heading into Noto fabulous fresh ingredients to go with wine on the patio; Casa Isabella is beautifully and cleverly designed and very well equipped, even the odd cold evening wasn't an issue as the wood burning stove gives off amazing heat. The location of the cabin is ideal, close to local towns and markets, beaches and walks, a perfect base to relax and unwind; should the opportunity arise would definitely return myself." Catrin H. "We had a great time. Such a lovely place - you have done a fantastic

job on the conversion. Rustic meets high-tech. The kitchen is so well equipped - home from home. We used the log burner on a couple of nights but the rest of the time we happily sat outside to have meals admiring that fantastic view!" Christine & Andy April 2013

What a view!

  • 5 of 5

Richard and sue have a wonderful bolt hole with an amazing view over Noto.

All you need is in the fantastically well equipped Cabin

Lazing on the terrace in mid October is a great tonic before the reality of winter in uk.

So much to see and do within an hours drive. Greek, Roman, Baroque architecture not to mention nature reserves, wonderful coves to swim in, 24 degrees, fishing villages.

Richard on hand to help plan excursions. Perfect

Beautiful Noto

  • 5 of 5

The property more than lived up to our expectations. It is in a beautiful location and extremely well landscaped. The outside spaces were relaxing and varied, a great way to chill. The outside facilities (though we didn't have use of the dip pool) were excellent, thoughtfully laid out and very inviting. The views far exceeded any hopes we had, the sunsets over Noto were breathtaking.

Inside the property was very well maintained very well equipped, clean and again, great use of space. Very comfortable to come back to. The facilities were extremely good and the netting around the bed was very welcome.

Richard was very, very helpful and supportive providing us with very good advice beforehand as well as whilst we were there.

There is so much to see and do that we had to plan what not to do rather than what to do. We loved the countryside and Noto itself. The beaches were excellent, we particularly enjoyed Eloro. Travelling to Taormina, Siracusa, and Montalbano country down south was very easy. Agrigento was also within an easy couple of hours, so from soaking up the sun on a beach to visiting the sights made for a very full two weeks, but also thoroughly relaxing and rejuvenating.

The food everywhere we ate was extremely good and it was easy to buy fresh produce to cook/eat at home as well.

We would, and have, recommend Casa Isabella to friends (couples). It is quiet, very relaxing and east to be in.

Well equipped, comfortable and relaxing property.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at Casa Isabella. Richard and Sue have managed to think of everything you might possibly need during your time there. We were greeted by Marielou who had made us an amazing swordfish and baked zucchini and ricotta cheese meal with a well needed chilled bottle of delicious white wine, just delicious! All for just 25 euro well worth it after the journey.

We really enjoyed using all the different outside sitting areas and having BBQ's while looking over the amazing views. Casa Isabella is a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk from Noto. We loved walking down through the valley into Noto picking fruit along the way. Pomegranates, oranges, lemons, figs and lots of almonds were very much appreciated!

Noto is an amazing town well worth a visit it comes to life at night and there is always some sort of street entertainment. We had an amazing meal at Manna ristorante, which would be our pick of the bunch of many great restaurants.

We would recommend bringing some walking shoes or pumps as there are lots of brilliant places to visit that require a bit of walking. We visited Cava Grande it was well worth the climb down the clear pools and waterfalls were amazing take lots to drink especially for the walk back up. Our favourite beach was Eloro 2 easy to walk to and clean but busy, as we found all the beaches were in August. We went on a boat trip with Giuseppe and Marie (Seecily Cruises) sailing from Marzamemi well worth a trip!

Richard was very helpful before and during our stay and was always on hand with advice to ensure we had a perfect stay. Thoroughly recommended and we would love to visit again next summer.

A retreat from the Sicilian heat!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Isabella is a wonderful retreat for a relaxing holiday in Sicily. With the temperature in the 40s, we were more than happy to use the many shaded terraces and the very welcome plunge pool to unwind and relax. The property is furnished with everything that you need for a self catering holiday, with Noto being only a 20 minute walk away, through the terraced gardens. The property and it's grounds were spotless when we arrived - we felt that we were the first ever to have stayed! We took advantage of Marilou's evening meal and were rewarded with a delicious vegetarian Sicilian meal. Definitely recommended! As a bit of a 'nervous driver' the unpaved road up to the villa was a bit of a shock but with practice it was easy! We would definitely stay again - perhaps in June when it is a little cooler!!!

Charming property in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

We arrived late after a flight delay and the caretaker gave us a warm welcome making sure we had everything we needed. The property is clean and well equipped, being close to the town of Noto. The owner provided us with a goole map guide with all the highlights of this wonderful area, make sure you use this. We cannot fault the customer service given to us and would highly recommend this property.

Booking a cottage in a foreign land can be a lottery. The photos look great, but you never know what you might find just off the photo! There was no need to worry with Casa Isabella. It's every bit as good as the photos and more. We had a lovely week at Casa Isabella and can't recommend it highly enough. The information that Richard provided before our stay was amazingly comprehensive and invaluable. Everything from where to buy bread to the best places to visit. A brilliant guide. Casa Isabella is the perfect hideaway for a quiet, get away from it all holiday. The view from the terrace is stunning, the cottage is beautiful and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. We particularly appreciated the floor to ceiling mosquito net over the bed and the air con which was very efficient. The internet was excellent quality and very reliable. The plunge pool was very welcome to cool off in the Sicilian heat. Richard and Sue could not have been more supportive and helpful. They went the extra mile when one of us was very sick on the first evening. We sent a text to ask where the nearest chemist was and Sue rang from England to check we were ok and give us advice. Marilou, the caretaker, cooked us a lovely meal on arrival, and made us feel very welcome. Noto is a beautiful city and Casa Isabella is ideally located just outside in the peace and quiet of the country a couple of miles away by car. It's also within easy reach of beautiful beaches and Ortigia is a must see.

From the Owner

In May 2003 we were visiting a friend who had been badgering us for months to come and visit him near Noto in the beautiful South East of Sicily and where he had just bought a wreck in the countryside to restore. We found ourselves falling in love, not only with the beauty of the countryside and the stunning Baroque architecture of Noto, but also with the gentler pace of life and resulting time it gives the locals to enjoy the delicious food and wine this region is famous for. Upon seeing this piece of land we fell in love with it, not only due to its tree-filled, terraced countryside setting with amazing views of the city and Iblei mountains, but also its proximity to Noto with its restaurants bars and the availability of wonderful fresh cooking ingredients.

This is what you can expect weather-wise in South East Sicily based on two years living there and many years visiting.

In March the weather becomes warmer (15 - early 20's degrees C) and by April the amazing wild-flowers are everywhere with the smell of orange and lemon blossom on the air; there can still be some chilly days and some rain but it is a perfect time for walking and cycling.

May to mid-June tends to have temperatures up to the late 20's and doesn't see much rain so are also good months for walking and cycling but for Northern Europeans also good for the beach!

By mid-June the temperatures are often creeping over 30 degrees and by July they are generally in the mid 30's when walking and cycling are not so pleasant and so the beach is generally the preferred option.

Towards the end of Aug it starts cooling down and mid-September usually brings a break in the weather with the odd storm though temperatures are still usually about 30. The storms continue into Oct but tend to be short-lived and generally the weather remains good.

By Nov the temperatures are in the mid 20's with slightly more rain though the weather is often still good. Dec is frequently dry and sunny with temperatures in the early 20's.

Jan and especially Feb are chilly (10-15) with some rain though on sunny days it can be beautiful - like the UK in April.

From the Owner

Along with the stunning views from the cabin, the surrounding land has a wide variety of fruit-bearing trees such as apricots, peaches, plums, grapes, figs, pomegranate, citrus and wild herbs which you are welcome to use. Therefore these, the proximity of ultra-fresh produce in the markets of nearby Noto (three minutes drive) and its well appointed kitchen make this cabin an ideal place to do some serious cooking and afterwards you can relax in the plunge pool with a glass of Prosecco admiring Noto. Should you fancy a day away from the stove though, Noto boasts some excellent restaurants and also the famous Caffe Sicilia (third best Caffe in Italy)Caffe and Costanzo. And after a refreshing gelato, ten minutes further on are the award winning sandy beaches of Eloro and Calamosche.
