About the Owner

Being half Greek myself, with roots in Chania, my wife and I decided it would be great to visit the island and see if we could trace some of my roots. We first visited Crete in 2002, we hired a car and toured the island for 2 weeks. The more we saw of the island, the more we loved it and we both said it was the place we wanted to retire to later in life. Luckily a UK company were building several projects in the Roumeli area and when we first saw the plot we now own, there was no hesitation in making our decision. Even as a bare plot the views were stunning. We were also able to design the internal structure, turning what was our dream into a reality. Once you've visited Roumeli and the nearby resorts, you're hooked, there is a kind of magic about the whole area urging you to return!

Guestbook comments from the manager

I stayed at Irinikos villa in September of 2011. It was simply heaven on earth. At first I was a little concerned about the lack of air conditioning but the position of this villa simply means you do not notice its absence as there is a gentle breeze blowing through the property at all times. The pool is wonderful, the views breathtaking. Waking up, looking over the mountains, eating breakfast on the private patio next to the villa entrance, is peace on earth. The villa has everything you could need. Sun loungers, TV/DVD (great for the kids), washing machine, iron etc.

This villa is the perfect place to charge up your batteries. It's in walking distance of the local supermarkets but I think you really need a car if you are to enjoy the nearby facilities. Panormos is pretty and has a plethora of local Taverna’s and restaurants. The old town of Rethymno is stunning. All in all a perfect place that I will be returning to next year with my parents, to 'share the experience'.

A fantastic villa in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my Wife and 2 young boys stayed in Villa Irinikos back in mid August 2016.

Firstly the booking process was made so stress free with David & Veronica being extremely friendly and helpful.

We had been to the Panormos area of Crete previously but wanted to go back for a week of just chilling out with our boys so we needed a villa that catered to entertain 2 boys. The space, layout, outside spaces, pool were exactly what we looking for.

The boys had lots to do, and when they needed a bit of quiet time inside the DVD collection was a godsend! (we are now very much into Harry Potter!)

The villa has lots of space. Bedrooms were perfect, with the double bunk beds in one room the boys had 4 beds to choose from of an evening! The main bedroom was also perfect. Plenty of space for clothes and luggage. The bathrooms were also great (a choice of a shower or a bath was good for kids)

The living/dining room area was a great size, and provided some beautiful views out to sea and some amazing sunsets! (best washing up view I have ever had!)

We had literally everything we needed, iron, toaster, sandwich maker, filter coffee maker, alarm clocks and a couple of large fans. The outhouse also has a washing machine which was a great bonus for a mid week wash (2 kids!)

The villa is part of a group of others villas but as you are above everyone else its easy to forget that and the un-interubted views out to sea and behind to the mountains were amazing. We timed it right for an amazing full moon rising over the mountains!

The pool was great for my boys (4&6yrs old) good steps down into it. The pool is the same depth all the way across.

You can sunbathe all day next to the pool or grab some shade in the cosy chairs at the side of the villa.

Panormos itself is wonderful, we had a hire car (a contact through David and Veronica) so found it easy to get around. Supermarkets can be found 2mins drive from the villa in Roumeli but we found this one a little hit and miss. It's worth going to Panormo or Perama for a good shop. Both these towns also have every other amenity you would need.

Cheryl and Stefanos look after the villa on behalf of D&V and were also excellent. From meeting us with the keys at 11.30pm to very kindly inviting us to a little bbq they were having. A fantastic evening, lots of homemade local wine consumed!

I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone!

Thanks again David and Veronica, we hope to return! :)

Return to our favourite villa

  • 5 of 5

We returned to this great villa for a second time it felt like home to us.

We loved the peace and quiet but close enough to the village of Panormos and it's lovely restuarants.

The views from the villa are beautiful and the villa it's self is great and very well equipped.

I would recommend hiring a car to get the most out your holiday.

We shall return again hopefully in 2018.

Villa Irinikos - what a find!

  • 5 of 5

The villa was everything we hoped it would be and more. The rooms were large and welcoming with extra touches...like a filter coffee machine, mossie burners, a bar b q and fans! The views are fantastic, the locals warm and welcoming and the walk into Panormos for our evening meal wasn't too far [about 25 mins]. There was a taverna closer but if you don't eat meat it was a bit limiting as they don't serve fish either. We ate at several places in Panormos all of which had their own good points so it was fun trying out different ones. If the walk daunts you there is a taxi service and we never had a problem getting one back to the villa. However, I would say car hire is a must for the villa. It could be done by using public transport and taxi but in my view that would be stressful, plus there are so many lovely places to visit, Rethmano and Chania to name but two, that it would be a shame to miss out. The villa is also well situated to visit the south side of the island and the views over the mountains are brilliant. We went off the main route a few times and although the roads are somewhat more twisty the extra views are worth it, especially going into Agia Galini. Villa Irinikos is a great place to stay and David and Veronica, the owners, are so helpful [and funny!] that it feels like you are staying at a friend's house; truly a place we will remember for a long time.

A little gem with wonderful views.

  • 5 of 5

Irininkos Villa has everything that is necessary for a wonderful holiday. It is situated amidst olive groves in the quaint village or Roumeli, a short distance inland from the picturesque seaside village of Panormos. There are marvellous views of the mountains, and the elevated position of the villa provides a cool breeze even on the hottest of days. The villa is well equipped, comfortable and clean, and Cheryl and Stephanos are at hand to see to any problems that might arise. As for the owners, nothing is too much trouble for them! We had some queries which they answered immediately. They remained in constant touch with us by email. What a wonderful find. We would give the villa an A+ rating!

  • 4 of 5

We have visited this villa for last two years and each time have come away feeling rested and rejuvenated! The owners could not be more helpful, information & directions very carefully explained (never went wrong finding villa first time) and villa was very clean and exactly what we wanted. All amenities were there as explained in their info and also very useful package of info on local area in villa plus welcome pack. We are sure this villa will be enjoyed by those who visit it. Views are fantastic and a delight to see.and especially in the evening with glass of wine!!

Hilltop getaway

  • 4 of 5

The Villa was a real find - the views across farmland, hills and the nearby coast made for a peaceful setting. The pool was a luxury to return to at the end of the day. The villa was clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our stay.

A car was an essential, allowing us to visit the nearby villages, beaches and historic sites. Rethmynon was great to visit at various times of the day, offering beaches and a wider range of shops and restaurants. However, if you are planning on taking home some tourist gifts you won't do better than the shops in Panormo.

Fantastic Villa for those seeking the quiet life.

Irinikos Villa is in an elevated position offering fantastic panoramic views of the whole valley, miles of olive groves, vineyards, farms and mountain ranges in the distance. Being high up also affords us total privacy, the villa and pool are not overlooked by any other properties. The village itself has 2 great supermarkets, 3 Taverna's a couple of local sleepy cafenions and a public telephone, everything you may need and all within a 5 minute walk from the villa. A 20 minute walk takes you to the lovely unspoilt seaside resort of Panormos. There are some great sandy beaches, any number of tourist shops and terrific Taverna's catering for everybody’s taste in this village. For the more adventurous there are also beach rides and boat tours running from the small but very quaint harbour.

Travel:

The villa is approximately a 40 minute taxi ride from Heraklion airport and about a 55 minutes taxi ride from Chania airport. We would be more than happy to highly recommend the company we have used for the last 10 years on request

Less than 2km away is the sleepy resort of Panormos with is quaint cobbled streets, fishing harbour and beaches. 6km away from the villa is the small town of Perama. 10km away is the popular tourist resort of Bali. The nearest cash point can be found in Panormos less than 2km away and the nearest bank is located 6km away in the town of Perama along with plenty of choices for shopping, from DIY to supermarkets, clothes stores, dentists and chemists.

For those seeking a little more fun, Panormos is the local place for beach rides and local sightseeing tours. Rethymno has a lot more to see and do in terms of historical sightseeing, tours and culture. There is also a great open market in the old part of the town where you can buy almost everything. There is also a ferry port in Rethymno that you can use for day trips to several other islands, the beautiful island of Santorini for instance.

The capitol, Heraklion and Chania offer more sights and facilities than can be seen in one day. Guests should perhaps plan a day’s visit in advance. There is a fantastic water park about 1 hours drive away from the villa, a really good day out for the family. Waterworld can be found high in the hills near the islands most popular tourist resort of Malia. The plains of Lasithi and Osmalos plateau, one of the largest plateaus in Europe where most of the islands produce is grown are also fairly close by. The trip up there takes you into the mountains and you will see some stunning views.

An hour and a half in the opposite direction and across the island gets you to the south coast on the Libyan sea. The waters on this side of the island are crystal clear and there are some really great areas for diving and snorkelling. The sea life swims around your ankles as soon as you step into the water. There are several ancient sites, main tourist resorts and beaches to visit along the south coast. At the eastern most tip of the island is the resort of via, the only tropical resort in southern Euro

Facilities

From the Owner

The villa is a quiet, relaxing retreat and unlike other villas has 3 levels, the top level with the villa itself, a swimming pool and ample patio areas to soak up the sun. Covered pergola areas offer a quick retreat if, as is often the case, the sun gets too hot. At night you may want to stand or sit on the balcony, watch the moon ripple on the Mediterranean across the valley and listen to the chirp of cicadas. A short flight of steps from the top level takes you down to a second and more shaded patio area surrounded by fragrant honeysuckle and bougainvillea bushes where your can still see across the valley but in a more shade and cooler area. Continue down the steps and it takes you into the lower garden where you can just wander around looking at a variety of plants, trees and shrubs. You may even see a local peacock or two as they live wild in the valley but are not shy or dangerous in any way.
