From the property, wonderful sea & mountain views can be enjoyed. Onsite parking in the large garage adjoining the property and further parking just outside. The property is ideal for a large family/two families sharing or a group of three couples with children. Within the property there are two self contained one bedroom apartments complete with own kitchens and private terraces. In the main house there are two double bedrooms (1 with 2 single beds) a large spacious lounge with direct access to the terrace & private pool. La Herradura remains an unspoilt Spanish village with a variety of restaurants & bars, nearby sporting activities such as golf, sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, horse riding, walking, fishing & tennis.
Hi my name is Ruth O'Hara and together with my husband David we have lived in San Nicolas for several years, our two girls Carla and Lily were born here and attend the local village Spanish School. La Herradura and the surrounding area is a wonderful place to live and bring up children.
We bought the property in 2004, and spent the first years rennovating both suites, and modernising the main house. We hope you enjoy your stay at San Nicolas.

San Nicolas is a lovely peaceful and tranquil area just a stroll outside the village of La Herradura with the lovely beach and bay complete with chiringuitos, bars and restaurants. The property is very peaceful with lovely Pine trees surrounding the villa, stunning sea views over the bay and surrounding sierra mountains.
The unspoilt feel of the area and the ease of access to Malaga and Granada is a big plus. The summers are long and lazy and in the winter there is ski-ing in the Sierra Nevada just an hour or so drive away.
We were five adults, one teenager, two kids (8 and 11) and a toddler. Ruth had no problem setting up an extra little bed for our toddler and answered the many questions we had about the house and the area (she was a huge help with finding the what to do for our various ages). The views are stunning, and sitting on the terrace or lounging by the pool was absolute heaven. I can't even begin to tell you about the welcome hamper and drinks that had been left for us to "help ourselves to". We didn't even really need to shop for a couple of days! There were some real treats in there that we all enjoyed (the adults and the kids). The property itself is immaculate, and very well equipped for a holiday. You could easily stay up at San Nicolas for your whole stay and have a wonderful chilled out time by the pool while taking your meals on the terrace (including a barbecue or two). Then follow that with drinks by the pool late into the evening if you like that sort of thing (we do!).
However, La Herradura itself is fabulous and only 5-10 mins walk away. We'd start the morning with a coffee in one of the bars on the beach before heading to the market. Here you can buy fresh fish (prawns!), meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables (possibly the best avocados and tomatoes I've tasted). We'd head back up to the villa to prepare lunch. There was no need to buy any extras such as olive oils, spices etc. because it was all there in the kitchen. Some of us just wanted to chill out up at the villa (especially the kids who darted between the shade of the house and the thrill of the pool) for the afternoons before heading out in the evening for drinks and tapas.
There was plenty for us to do for the two weeks we were there, we visited The Marina, swam every day, some of us sailed and went scuba diving. We visited various bars every night and they were all very welcoming and each with its own style of tapas (El Salon is a must!). We also took trips to Almunecar, Nerja and Frigiliana and two of us even managed to pop off to Granada for the night (seeing as we were with friends who could babysit). We like to get about but to tell you the truth San Nicolas and La Herradura have everything you need for a wonderful idyllic holiday.
A glorious villa ! Perfect for our two families ! Loved the view and the luxury . Really liked the location too .
WOW! It was almost 9 years ago but this place was incredible! It was the perfect place for the two of us (we stayed in one of the apartments) and would absolutely come back with our family now. The pool was secluded, which we had to ourselves, and Ruth and David were the most welcoming hosts we've ever encountered. Ruth cooked us meals, would leave us croissants and drinks at the door to wake up to, and tended to our every needs. The whole place is beautiful and La Herradura itself really is 5-10 mins walk away. There was plenty for us to do for the two weeks we were there, and the food was outstanding wherever we went. We have such fond memories of being here: a mixture of relaxed and fun, whilst feeling absolutely at home, thanks to Ruth. I would recommend to couples, families, retired groups, ANYONE! The most special holiday we've been on.
