About the property

Church Tower Conversion, Crieff, Scotland - Edge Of Highland Town Of Crieff

The Tower has been rated 5 stars by VisitScotland so you can rest assured that it is truly 5 star luxury self-catering in Crieff, Perthshire, the heart of Scotland. The sense of a boutique hotel continues with treats such as plasma TV, a state of the art cinema room, wireless music centre and remote controlled LED lights that provide a delightful changing show in the tower. The bedrooms are luxurious with high quality linens, bathrobes and toiletries and with three bedrooms and three bath or shower rooms (including wonderful wet rooms) you will feel as if you are in a 5 star hotel. There is an open plan living space on the second floor complete with a modern well equipped kitchen, dining and sitting room and a delightful balcony deck where you can sit of an evening and watch the sun set on the hills surrounding Crieff.

WHAT TO DO IN THE CRIEFF AREA

Guests always ask what is the area like, so I created my Top 10 things to do in the Crieff area, If you manage to tick off these you will be guaranteed to have a wonderful time and want to come back again. So here we go....

1. Ring of Breadalbane Explorer - this is the bus which does a loop around Perthshire, and you can bring your bikes and pop on and pop off when you like. The bus stop is from the Crieff Hydro Hotel (just 5 min walk from the apartment). I would stop off in Killin and cycle to Lochearnhead (when you get the bus again). Stop off at Kenmore and Aberfeldy both lovely villages

2. Spend the day Perth for a day, 20 min drive from Crieff and go for a walk along the Tay and up to Kinoull Hill

3. Get the train to Edinburgh for the day, in August the Edinburgh festival is on, but any time of the year is a great time to visit

4. Hang out in Crieff for the day, some great walks / cycles around the area (go to the Tourist Office for details, which is in the centre of the town)

5. Go to Delivinos for lunch / evening one day (in the centre of town), and definitely go to Yanns for dinner one evening (on the Perth Road, just 5 mins walk from the apartment), lovely French / Scottish restaurant, you will need to book in advance, as it's very busy

6. Cycle / Walk to Famous Grouse Distillery (about 1 mile away) Scottish oldest distillery, there is a great tour, easy on the whiskey! you'll fall off your bike on the way home. There is a nice walk over the Knock (the hill in Crieff) where the Crieff Hydro is, down the other side to the The Famous Grouse and then you can walk around the river Earn back to Crieff

7. Hang out in MaCrosty Park and Taylor Park, down by the river, lovely parks for a picnic

8. Get the bus to Comrie, cute village next to Crieff (you can cycle there as well, take the back road, its quieter and more scenic. Go for a coffee/lunch in the Royal Hotel in Comrie. Cycle/Drive up to the WW2 Prisoner of War camp, very usually place, but worth a visit.

9. Cycle/ Drive over to Gleneagles Hotel (home of the Ryder Cup in 2014), 5 star world famous hotel, wonderful ESPA spa and restaurants which the public can use. If you want to push the boat out, go to Andrew Fairleys Restaurant (Scotlands only 2 Micheln star restaurant) - you will definitely need to book in advance and bring lots of cash!. Taxi will be about £10 each way, posh clothes required!! great experience.

10. Cycle / Drive to Drummond Gardens just outside Crieff, very impressive gardens, there is a very cool tree-lined long driveway up to the castle.

I hope you like the list and enjoy your time in Crieff. John

About john burke

We brought the Church Tower 8 years old, as we love the outdoors, and it is a real escape for the fast lane. We live in Ireland most of the time, but try to get to Crieff every month if we can, we love the seasons and changes in colour in the trees. I hope you like to come and stay at the Tower sometime.

Why john burke chose Perthshire

We fell in love with the Church Tower, the views and the people in Crieff.

What makes this castle unique

Great restaurants nearby, Yann's an excellent French restaurant and Delivinos is great for lunch. Wonderful walks from Tower, and great location for touring the Highlands of Scotland

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Stylish, comfortable and memorable"

We spent a long weekend meeting up as a family of 6 adults in Crieff at St Ninians Tower. The accommodation was ideal. Very stylish property with lots of quirky character providing everyone with space to relax. Cosy and comfortable with fabulous views. If you are looking for a three bedroom property in Crieff, I would be happy to recommend this property. p.s. if eating out - highly recommend Yann's and Barley Bree. Both great atmosphere and beautiful food.

"Fun flat on two levels, very well appointed, with great view fro"

We were 3 couples staying over a long weekend. Unusual, fun, first floor flat on 2 levels linked by the tower staircase. Each couple had own bathroom - luxury! Very well appointed and comfortable, with quality cutlery and crockery. Efficient gas central heating. Good service from John when we encountered a toilet cistern problem. Easy access to town and local walks

The Tower apartment is a great place to spend a family break

stunning describes it well

We are a family of 6: 2 grandparents, a teenage granddaughter, an 11 year-old grandson, and their parents. ALL of us loved the tower. We found the various nooks and seating arrangements delightful, affording us time together or apart. The views are, of course, amazing. We've stayed together previously in villas and homes in other countries, but the tower was unique. The 11 year old - not usually impressed by accommodations - said it was "terrific." Emelia, who takes care of guests, was friendly and helpful and made sure we could contact her at any time. The recommendations for restaurants were excellent. Grandmother is a self-proclaimed food snob and she was pleased to find such superb quality in the near-by restaurants.

Very different, excellent accomodation with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We were three couples in Crief for a walking / relaxing weekend. The accommodation was very different but also very interesting. We all had our bedroom and bath or shower facilities. Everything worked and was of good quality and it was a pleasure to be there and enjoy the space. We were fortunate to have constant sunshine and flat was filled with light from morning to evening. The balcony really made it the best, sitting out in the evening enjoying a sundowner with the sun and the views...We had a great time and i would thoroughly recommend this accomodation.(Note - the stairs may be an issue for the less able). Crief and the surrounding Perthshire countryside is fantastic with plenty of walks. The distillery is worth a visit as is the Crief Hydro Hotel for views, walking, food and activities.

Great property and location to base your Scotish exploration.

  • 5 of 5

John's apartment was ideal for my family of five adults with three bedrooms and bathrooms. The apartment was clean and beautifully appointed. We used this as a base to travel through the area but it could easily been used to relax and enjoy Crieff. It was very comfortable for my family and gave everyone space when needed. The tower area was a favorite place to sneak away.

I was not sure how the apartment was laid out from the pictures. It is located up two flights of stairs. The bedrooms are all on the first floor along with the bathrooms. Two bathrooms are "wet" rooms and for an American it took some getting accustomed to showering without an I closed area. Make sure you move anything that should not get wet. Personally I was not a big fan but when in Rome... There is a winding staircase that leads to the second level which contains the family room, dinning area and kitchen. There is a nice balcony on this level as well along with a small TV viewing area. The staircase also leads to the tower area with fantastic views of the surrounding area.

We did have an issue with the water heating system on our first day but we were able to fix it by going onto the Internet and adjusted the pressure to get the water circulating. They also had a plumber stop by later and we had no problems afterwards. Crieff is a quite town and closes early. There is a grocery store a few blocks south and twice we bought snacks and wine which we enjoyed back at the apartment.

For Americans coming for a stay realize that you will need to bring shampoo and bar soap. Also, we never had washcloths. The beds all come with comforters but no single sheet. We ran into some warm days and the comforter was too much. But this was the same everywhere we stayed. Just different than what you find in the states. Nothing negative just different.

I would highly recommend this property and it was delightful working with John. It really is a beautiful property.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

Church Tower was amazing.... It was clean, comfortable and unique. The location was perfect for middle Scotland exploration, we loved starting our day with a hot beverage in the tower watching the sun rise and in the evening enjoying a glass of wine on the deck watching the sun set. During our 6 week European trip, Church Tower was the one location that we want to want to return to. Highly recommend

Great holiday

  • 4 of 5

We had a really great time this week. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome when shown around and had flowers on the table with a complementary bottle of wine. The only reason I have put 4 star is because the floor made a lot of noise when you walk on it and there was not ant broom to sweep up when our daughter made a mess we could only find a hand brush which meant getting down on our hands and knees to clear it up. Apart from this we would happily use them again.
