Little Fursdon holiday apartment is an attractive bolt hole for small families or couples wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and relax in the Cornish Countryside. It's a world away from the noise and fumes of town life. The only noises you'll hear here are the hoot of an owl or the bleat of the lambs. Close by the rugged moorland has many fascinating historical locations that beg to be explored either on foot or by car. The ancient standing stones 'The Hurlers' located on the moor near Minions is just a short drive away, just one of the amazing ancient historical sites that litters this area and the location for some of the scenes from the recent production of the film Poldark.

About the Owner

My husband David and I have lived at Little Fursdon for twenty two years.

We love living in this beautiful place on the edge of the moors. Just a few minutes walk from the house you can be in the countryside on open moors. We both enjoy walking and cycling and Little Fursdon is ideally located to do both.

The beaches of Cornwall are never far away and you can get to either the north or south coast beaches within half an hour by car. We both love travelling and so we have created our own small business here in the heart of Cornwall where we rent our holiday apartment and luxury yurts in the summer and in the winter months we take the opportunity to travel the world.

This year we cycled from Cornwall to Spain and spent several weeks in Rajasthan in India and we went trekking in Nepal

Wonderful holidays at Little Fursdon

We have had three wonderful holidays at Little Fursdon and are planning our fourth. The accommodation is delightful and the bedroom has an old- world charm that is so cosy and atmospheric. The bed is extremely comfortable which has given us the perfect nights sleep after a day exploring the many attractions Cornwall has to offer. The lounge and kitchen area has everything needed for a comfortable night in for relaxing. Beautifully decorated and maintained. The private decked patio has lovely views over the garden to enjoy a meal and a glass of wine. Use of the hot tub is also available and a must to experience on a starlit balmy evening. There are some excellent eating places locally and in particular Tapenades in Liskard is a favourite should you feel like a treat. Dave and Lindsey Fear are warm, welcoming and very friendly; nothing seems too much trouble for them. We have had no hesitation in recommending Little Fursdon to work colleagues and family . Our planned fourth visit simply says it all.

A charming, clean and cosy cottage apartment.

The apartment is extremely well maintained, with all the comforts of home and oozes Cornish charm. It is an excellent base from which to explore the delights of Cornwall; with the added bonus of the wonderfully friendly owners' knowledge of the area and warm hospitality. We had a superb week at Little Fursdon and highly recommend this charming Cornish cottage.

Perfect place for a peaceful holiday

The Little Fursden holiday apartment is beautifully designed and maintained with delightful attention to detail. The location, in an unspoiled corner of Cornwall, is picturesque and peaceful, and within easy reach of beautiful beaches and many places of interest.

Lindsey and David are excellent hosts offering a wealth of information about the local area as well as Cornwall in general. I strongly recommend this property; it is a perfect place for a Cornish holiday whatever the weather.

Location

From the Owner

We fell in love with Little Fursdon as soon as we saw it. The old part of the house dates back over 600 years and it is full of charm and character. The large garden is full of flowers and shrubs, giving it a real cottage garden feel. Located less than a mile from the open spaces of Bodmin Moor, there are numerous picturesque walks both from the house around the country lanes or over the moors. The yurt paddock is a spacious area with just three individually crafted yurts. It is wonderfully quiet and yet Liskeard market town is only a very short drive away where shops and supermarkets can be found. The holiday apartment is completely self contained and has its own entrance through an attractive conservatory. There is a shared wood fired hot tub which guests can enjoy.

Coast/Beach:

Nearest beaches are 10 miles to Looe, Downderry or Whitsand Bay [15 miles].

South coast beaches of Polzeath, Newquay are approximately 25 miles.

Gardens and Stately Homes

There are lots of National Trust Properties worth visiting in Cornwall.

The nearest one is Cotehele [PL12 6TA] just four miles west of Tavistock. This is a very fine Tudor house with superb collections of textiles, armour and furniture, set in extensive grounds

Nearest airport is Newquay Airport which is about 20 miles away.

The cross channel port of Plymouth is only 20 miles away.

Use of a car is recommended.

Distances:

Nearest village of St Cleer with farm shop is 2miles.

Pensilva- 2miles

Nearest town is the market town of Liskeard which is about 4 miles away with leisure centre with indoor swimming pool and tennis courts.

Siblyback Lake offering high wire, wake boarding, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, sailing, cycling and fishing is about ten minutes by car.

Golitha Falls also ten minutes by car for rural walking.

Further Details:

There are two large supermarkets in Liskeard and many local shops, pubs and banks with ATM's. There are also several excellent restaurants nearby including Tapenades in Liskeard, The Canteen near Cawsand, and The View on Whitsand Bay, Jamie Oliver's Fifteen is in Newquay [30 mins by car] and Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant in Padstow.

Guests can also cycle into Padstow along the camel trail from Wadebridge or Bodmin. Bikes can be hired in both locations.

The Eden Project in St Austell is only 30 minutes from here by car where you can see the amazing biomes created in a disused china Clay pit.

The National Marine Aquarium is also within easy reach in the Barbican in Plymouth which is about 40 minutes away by car. However, there is also a small passenger ferry which takes you straight to the Mayflower steps in the Barbican from the Cornish village of Cawsand on the Rame Peninsular. There is a whole wealth of places to explore on the Rame Peninsular including Edgcumbe Park, the coastal path from Rame Head to the twin villages of Cawsand and Kingsand as well as the spectacular Whitsand Bay area with its wonderful beaches.

The magical woodlands of Cardinham are also worth a visit located near Bodmin and only 20 minutes drive from here. There are woodland tracks that can be explored on foot or by bike and there are picnic areas with built in BBQ's beside the river.

Lanhydrock House near Bodmin. [PL30 5AD] It is a magnificent late Victorian country house with extensive servants' quarters, gardens and wooded estate.

The lost Gardens of Helegan- [PL26 6EN]

These gardens, near Mevagissy in Cornwall, have been restored and well marketed by Tim Smit. They comprise eighty acres of pleasure grounds plus a complex of walled gardens and a huge vegetable garden.

The Eden Project- [PL24 2SG] The ultimate Garden of all time. You cannot leave Cornwall without visiting this inspirational place, transformed by the genius of Tim Smit. Ten years ago it was a barren, exhausted china clay pit. Now its massive Biomes (one of which is the biggest greenhouse in the world) and millions of plants bear witness to what can be achieved by a can-do attitude and the tenacity of the human spirit.

CHARLESTOWN [PL25] Near St Austell

The harbour village of Charlestown was a Georgian 'new town', a port development planned by local landowner Charles Rashleigh (after whom it was named) and built between 1790 and 1810 for the export of copper and china clay. Throughout the nineteenth century the little dock was packed with ships and the harbourside sheds.

Minions-[PL14 5LE]

Just up the road 10 mins by car. Minions is a small village situated high up on Bodmin moor in South East Cornwall, England. Most of the village is over 300m above sea level and it is therefore the highest village in Cornwall. The name Minions derives from Minions Mound, a Barrow at the west end of the village. The village itself has a pub "The Cheesewring", named after the rock formation at the top of the hill above Minions, a restaurant and tea rooms "Hurlers Halt

Camel Trail a cycle path following the line of a disused railway, runs along the beautiful the Camel Estuary from Padstow the 6 miles to Wadebridge, and on , for the more adventurous, another 8 miles to Bodmin ; and yet on again to the western edge of Bodmin Moor, the rugged heart of Cornwall. There are several bike hire shops in Padstow Wadebridge and Bodmin from which to rent one. Whole day, half day, and evening hire. From mountain bikes to adult tourers to child’s trailer bikes to tandems. The Camel Trail is very popular, particularly during the School Holidays.

Golitha Falls-[PL14 6RY] Just 10 mins by car or 30 mins by bike!

Golitha Falls refers to an area of ancient woodlands that sit alongside the river Fowey as it cascades its way through a valley gorge. The scenery here is beautiful at any time of the year.

Our luxury yurts were inspired by a visit to a game park in Tanzania. Each yurt has a lovely contemporary feel and they are beautifully furnished with light oak furniture and with a king sized beds and single two single futons. Each yurt has its own Kitchen area within the barn and a private shower room. The holiday apartment accommodation is an upside down construction with the spacious bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor and the kitchen/lounge area with deck access on the upper floor. The apartment has a very spacious feel and is decorated in a contemporary boutique style in subtle pastel colours. The king sized bed has a comfortable Vi-sprung mattress ensuring a good night's sleep for all guests.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: In the holiday apartment we accept short breaks in our less busy periods but weekly bookings only in peak season. In our luxury yurts we accept short three day week-end stays from Fri-Mon and also week-day stays Mon-Fri during low and mid season and weekly bookings only during high season. Changeover day is Friday although we would consider short lets at short notice in off peak season. Outside: Yurt guests have an enclosed two acre paddock where they can relax, play games and enjoy the space. There are extensive decked areas around the barn with patio furniture and each yurt has its own small deck with table and chairs. There is a games net for badminton and a large fire pit area where guests may sit and light an open fire to BBQ on. There is also a gas BBQ located at the barn.
