About the property

Modern, large apartment in historic Art Deco building, with views of the surrounding hills. Two minutes walk from the port, and 10 minutes from Collioure by shuttle-bus.

The apartment is situated in a historic Art Deco warehouse, which was converted into modern residential apartments in 2006. There is a secure private parking space within the building, and direct lift access to the apartment. The spacious, open plan living and dining area opens out onto the south-facing terrace, which has views of the port and the surrounding hills. The staircase leads down to the next floor, where there are three bedrooms and bathroom/WC.

Sheets and towels can be rented at 25 Euros per bed, by arrangement with our agent.

The apartment is a short, two-minute walk from the centre of the little town, with its port, shops and restaurants. In the summer there is a regular tourist bus to take you to historic Collioure in 10 minutes. You can also drive to the beautiful sandy beaches of Argelès-sur-Mer, St Cyprien and Canet.

This is the ideal apartment for those who like the authentic life of a small French town, situated in a historic port, and close to all the attractions of the Cote Vermeille.

Why Mathew Stewart chose Port-Vendres

We have been visiting the Languedoc-Roussillon region for many years, as several of our family live here, and we love to spend time in the area. We discovered Port-Vendres about 10 years ago, and we chose to buy here because it has a unique feel, and it is an interesting place to stay at any time of year (unlike some of the other resorts which seem to shut down outside of the Summer season.)

What makes this apartment unique

We love the fact that the apartment is big enough for the whole family, and that we have our own dedicated parking space inside the building (especially during the Summer season, when the area is at its busiest).

We also love that fact that the apartment is quiet, even though we are only two minutes walk from the boats in the port.

Great Location! Property Needs A Bit of TLC

My partner and I stayed in this flat for 2 months end of March to end of May.

The location was fantastic...in a few minutes you were right on the Quai, where all the action happens...from fresh fruit sellers to cafes, pharmacies, etc. The view of a small part of the port and the surrounding hills is also great.

The flat itself is a two level with the bedrooms and the only toilet and bathroom on the lower level.

Having only 1 toilet and it being on the lower level was a bit of a hassle..but since we were only 2 people it was ok. But if you had people 6-7 ...which there are beds for...it might become challenging.

Now to the bedding and cleanliness. The cupboards were a mess...mattress covers, pillows...quite tatty and some yellow stained from use...all were stuffed in a jumble which at first tumbled to the floor. The pillows didn't really fit the pillow cases given to us...the "useable" pillows were square while the cases were rectangle. The sheets didn't really match, and our first set seemed not too "fresh" ...we were given a second set a few days later which were much better. The first set I had to rewash immediately.

We swept and mopped the floors on several occasions...even on the last time there was hair, and other debris left by previous tenants. The kitchen cupboards were also very untidy and unclean...especially the one under the sink. The glasses with dishes cupboard was ok...some others I didn't bother with...

The oven Was very hard to get to work well...very tricky and also rather dirty. I finally gave up and only used the stove top.

The TV worked...none of the other entertainment devices worked. We didn't mind as we had laptops and streamed Netflix movies. Other electrical equipment in the kitchen didn't work either...they hung on the wall unused. The microwave worked.

All in all, we feel the place is a good basic place that needs more attention in cleaning...bedding, floors, cupboards, oven, etc. And some electronic gear needs fixing, or?

The rental price was reasonable. And again, the location great! The balcony with the table and 4 chairs was delightful!

Clean, modern apartment, ideal location

Thank you to the owner Mathew for helping us with the flexible booking dates. Also, thank you to Eve for greeting us on arrival and showing us around the apartment. It was good to know that someone local was available to help with any problems.

The apartment was well furnished and had everything we needed. The dishwasher and air conditioning were added bonuses.

The apartment was ideally located with easy walking access to the supermarket, bakers and restaurants and we particularly enjoyed the view from the terrace, overlooking the harbour. Car parking space was easy to access, and useful as on street parking was difficult to find.

We would certainly recommend this property to friends and family.

Modern apartment, well appointed, convenient base

The apartment is clean, modern and has everything you might need for a stay in Port Vendres. We liked the balcony with views across the town to the hills. Port Vendres has lots of bars and restaurants and provided a calmer alternative base to the busier resorts like Collioure, which is only 5 minutes drive away but always absolutely rammed with tourists!

Great position and modern comforts

This maisonette is positioned just behind the front row of harbour properties and with steps or a lift down to harbour level, you can quickly and easily get to the harbour restaurants, cafés etc. The local buses offer €1 per journey, so transport to the other towns on the coast is so easy you don't need to get your car out! It was ideal for us for the first break of the year. Don't miss a trip to Collioure!

Well positioned apartment in Port Vendres. Fully equipped, comfortable and peaceful.

Distances:

The port, which is the centre of the town, is just two minutes' walk away. Here you will find many cafes, restaurants and shops, plus all the entertainments in the square.

You can walk to Collioures in about 30 minutes, but in season there are regular buses (that look like steam trains) to take you there. These leave from the port, 2 minutes walk from the apartment. The train/buses drive along the coast road and get you to Collioures in about 15 minutes. They have open air compartments so you can enjoy the view. The return journey from Collioures to Port-Vendre takes a picturesque route through the hills and vineyards, past the Fort Saint-Elme, and back to the quayside at Port-Vendres (2 minutes from the apartment.

Argeles-sur-mer, with its beaches and entertainments are just 15 minutes (7 km) away by car.

Further Details:

Port-Vendres is a historic port which is still used today by local fishermen, private yachts and some industry. The fisherman deliver each morning's catch directly from the boats to stalls on the quayside for purchase.

Port-Vendres is not just for the holiday season - there is activity in the town all year round. Local shops include greengrocer, butcher, chemist, newsagent, bank, post office, wine merchant, as well as a regional fish and seafood market. There are a wide range of restaurants, all of which are within walking distance of the apartment.

During the Summer season the town usually arranges various attractions and entertainments. In 2014 these included live music in the town square, a vintage car show, an art exhibition, children's mini disco, jazz and classical concerts, and a circus. Once a week there is a local produce market. There is also an antiques market.

Boat trips are available from the quayside. These are available in many different formats: fishing trips, glass-bottomed boats for viewing sea-life, exploration of coves, and trips to nearby beaches, including Argeles-sur-mer.

It is a beautiful town which has inspired artists through the centuries. Charles Rennie Mackintosh stayed here in the early 20th Century, and there is a museum dedicated to his work here. There are some fabulous walks nearby incorporating hills, cliffs, vineyards, forts and varied countryside and wildlife.

Our rental rates include 10% tax which we are obliged to pay to the French Ministry of Finance.

If you wish to rent sheets and bath towels, these should be ordered in advance from our agent. Sheets and towels are available at a rate of €25 per bed.

Guests from France can pay the €300 security deposit by cheque on arrival. Guests from other countries pay a security deposit in advance by credit card (refund will be made 7 days after the stay, provided there are no breakages).

The apartment must be left clean and tidy prior to your departure.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is preferred, although other days are possible, particularly in low season.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
