Large house & pool, ideal for families, near Uzes. Set in beautiful peaceful Vineyards, just a short drive to the Gard River & sight seeing.

This beautiful, spacious house of character has been refurbished to give the perfect living space for up to 3 families. Located in a peaceful setting, it has a very large private pool in a landscaped garden. There are 7 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Set in vineyards on the edge of a village, it is just a short drive to shops and restaurants. There is a modern central open plan kitchen / dining room. The house is close to the Gard river (for swimming and canoeing), just a 15 minutes from the beautiful historic town of Uzes and 45 minutes from the coast. There are several terraces for eating outside, one with a shaded BBQ area. We have many activities on offer, including a pool table, ping pong, a large trampoline, board games etc. All of our previous guests have loved it here, it's worth taking a look at the reviews to get an idea of what people have particularly enjoyed. Note that we have wifi freely available.

Why Suzi Brennan chose Anduze - Cevennes Piedmont

We chose this house because it is the perfect location, between the Gardon River (The Gard) and the Cevennes hills. We love the beach, so we wanted a property within an hours drive. The river is also really accessible, offering canoeing, fishing, jumping from rocks, or simply sunbathing on the river beach.

Best of all, the property very easily accessible, as it's only a 30 minute drive from Nimes airport (fly here with Ryanair from Luton or Liverpool), and there are at least 4 other airports within a 2 hour drive

What makes this house unique

This property is ideally suited to family groups as it has lots of space for everyone and is geared up for children.

We love the peaceful setting too, best for hanging out around the pool and then taking day trips out to the many local attractions. Then watching the sun set over the vineyards during the evening BBQs.

"We were immediately impressed by the new very large modern kitchen, which seemed to have everything. However, most of the time was spent outside and that is where the house is especially impressive. The setting is lovely both by day in the sunshine but also under the stars and the garden/pool lighting at night. There is a superb big pool which has a shallow end with wide steps so that it is safe for toddlers as well as being big enough for a good swim. It was very relaxing swimming or lying on the loungers but there was also plenty shade under the trees or covered area when we needed it." John C, June 2013



"Perfect holiday"

"Excellent location on the outskirts of a peaceful village. The accommodation was ideal for a family holiday of 8 adults and 2 very young children ( aged 16 months and 3 years). Bedrooms were well decorated and spacious - excellent bathrooms - and the large and well equipped kitchen made cooking a pleasure. There are 2 outside areas for dining, one a shady area adjacent to the BBQ, which was well used. The weather was superb for the whole week so the pool was in constant use - great pool and surrounding terrace. We loved the nearby town of Uzes- great on market day - friendly restaurants. Don't miss the medieval gardens in the town. We visited Nimes, Avignon and the beach at L'Espiguette and bought excellent Viognier. All together a great week! This is a great location for hiking in the Cevennes hills.

Coast/Beach:

The beautiful coast line of the Camargue is within easy reach (approx 45 mins). Our favourite beach is L'Espiguette.

Travel:

There are many airports within a sensible drive to the property. The closest is Nimes, just a 30 min drive away, followed by Montpellier, and Avignon, both less than an hour. Marseilles is around 2 hours away.

Distances:

The house is in a small village. The nearest village with boulangerie, vineyard, small supermarket etc is just 3 km away. There is also a pharmacy and good restaurant / pizzeria 3 km away.

Further Details:

Local boulangerie, newsagent and mini mart 5 min drive.

Nearest large supermarket just 10 mins drive.

Many local attractions including caves, steam train, tree climbing, Go Karting, Quad biking, horse riding, and sights of natural beauty, including 'Cirque de Navacelles'.

Notes on accommodation: Note that there is a small surcharge for single week bookings in August. Outside: Excellent, secure, private pool (6m x 12m) with deep end (2.5m) and shallow end with 'beach' steps, perfect for toddlers. The pool is fully fenced and also has an alarm. Large terraced area around the pool, with sun beds, lounge chairs and large sun umbrella. Large lawn area for sunbathing or playing. Brick built BBQ under covered, terraced eating area. Large, separate eating terrace with sun shade. 14ft trampoline, swing, bikes, ping pong and other games available. Long gravel drive ending in ample parking area for several cars, hidden away from pool area. Utility Room: Large utility room with washing machine, butler sink and 'drinks' fridge. Iron and ironing board available. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen can be provided at a small charge. The property is thoroughly cleaned and maintained before every stay. English speaking property management team is on call locally to address any problems. Other: Indoor play room on first floor with pool table. Cot bed available.

Nice big property, lovely pool, great for large family but could do with better upkeep

We travelled to France with 14 family members - 8 adults and 6 children - and this house was certainly big enough to accommodate us all. While we had a super getaway with all these pros; the sizeable pool, plenty of outside furniture, a ping pong table, new grill, spacious bedrooms, new bathrooms and a beautiful area, there were unfortunately some problems with the house and facilities promised.

On arrival there were no tea towels, oven gloves, dishwasher was broken (later fixed but only to break again, you can imagine washing up four times a day for 14 people.) No bedroom or bathroom bins, old, dirty dish cloths, shower that didn't drain and bathrooms that weren't cleaned up to standard. Also the outside bins were overflowing. I will say that the owner had a caretaker come over quickly to rectify what they could but sadly we were still left with some issues. The website advertised 2 bikes on site, but only one was working and we were also guaranteed that the 4ft bed in one of the bedrooms would be changed before our arrival since it wasn't big enough for a couple to sleep in. This however wasn't ever changed.

As I said, we did still have a great holiday, but if the details above were improved and the house maintained a little better it would have made it fantastic!

Lovely villa set in beautiful surroundings with a large swimming pool

We have just returned from a week's stay. It's a great location, with plenty of shade and vineyards surrounding. Plenty of space inside, a large spacious kitchen, cool living room area with some lovely large bedrooms. The swimming pool is large enough to enable those, like me, who wanted to exercise but also enough space to share with boisterous children!

We ate all our meals outside. The villa is well catered for with large tables to accommodate groups of 12. There is so much to do to suit everyone. Local walks, runs, cycling vineyards to visit. We spent a lot of time relaxing around the pool. We visited Uzes, a lovely medieval town 20 minutes away, a beautiful beach down in the Camargue and swam in local rivers.

The local village is 3.5km away with a local store - they hold a mini market on Sunday morning where we bought some local produce and met a local wine producer -who makes lovely Rose's and red wine.

The weather was fantastic - blue skies throughout.

All in all a very peaceful and relaxing holiday for all

Castelnau Valence near Uzes

We stayed at the property for one week in August (wish it could have been longer!). We were a family group of 12 in total, with grandparents, and 2 families with 6 children aged between 12 and 7. The house was perfect for us, being well-appointed and well equipped with lots of space. The pool was wonderful and we all spent a lot of our time round it, even after dark when the lights came on. There were plenty of games for children and adults. In particular we used the table tennis and pool tables but there were also DVD's and board games so the children were never bored.

The weather was hot and sunny and we ate outdoors round the big table each evening and lunch time. We had originally planned to use the barbecue but found it too small for our needs (our only criticism). Suzi was extremely helpful in answering any queries and we found the welcome pack invaluable..

We had a few trips out to Pont du Gard, the delightful old town of Uzes and the River Gard at Collias for swimming.

A dream holiday leaving us with many happy memories. We would recommend the property to friends and relatives with no hesitation.

Perfect venue for large groups or families

We had the most perfect week at this beautiful home. It was well equipped with everything you could need, stunning pool and fabulous terrace area where we had all our meals.

We also had someone who was in a wheelchair and whilst the home hasn't been adapted, she was able to use the bathrooms without too much of an issue.

It broke my heart to leave this place. Thanks for such a great week!

Gorgeous house in beautiful location

We spent a week at this beautiful and stylish house and can recommend it highly. Everything is immaculately maintained and the layout is perfect. We stayed as part of a large group and there was plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need and the utility room is an added bonus. There are two dining areas outside and a barbecue so our evenings were spent outside enjoying the warm evenings and gorgeous sunsets. During the day we relaxed on the terrace around the large pool. The house is situated in a beautiful area and opposite a vineyard and within 15 minutes you can be in the world-famous medieval town of Uzès with its cobbled streets and impressive Place aux Herbes where the market is held twice a week. A must visit is La Fabrique Givrée where we sat under the arches of the square and ate the most amazing sorbets and ice creams watching the world go by. It's a very straightforward journey from the airport at Nîmes (about 40 minutes) and a great base to explore the surrounding areas. We would love to return.

Great location for a perfect holiday

We enjoyed an all too short family holiday at Castlenau Valence. The property is tucked away in a sleepy village a few miles from the N106 between Nimes and Ales, and about 20 minutes from the charming duchy of Uzes. The house is well-maintained, spacious and comfortable, with lots of room for our party of 10. The kitchen is well-equipped and spacious. The large pool is secure for small children, with a good deep end for diving, and there is a good selection of both indoor and outdoor games including table tennis. We made good use of the built-in barbecue, and there is plenty of space for sitting out in the evenings. We took the TGV to Nimes and hired cars at the station, which means you can come down from London comfortably in one day. The Cevennes steam train from Anduze to St. Jean du Gard makes a good family day out, with a stop at the Bambouseraie. We also went to the Caverne du Pont d'Arc, which is a newly opened replica of the nearby Chauvet cave with spectacular cave paintings that are over 20,000 years old. This is a bit more than an hour away and is very popular. Book ahead ahead, and go for the one English language tour each day, rather than hiring a headset with a flat, dull monotone commentary. The Roman architecture in Nimes is also unmissable. But there is plenty to do in an attractive and relatively unspoilt area, and this is a great property to stay in.
