About the Owner

Mousehole has always been part of our family life. John's grandmother moved into a nearby harbourside property in the village in 1948 - all the way from neighbouring Newlyn, and her house has been lived in by family members ever since. John, Jenny and their young family always enjoyed holidays in Mousehole which is so special to the whole family. When John inherited the family property in 2009 he and Jenny decided to move to Mousehole and now live in the family house.

John & Jenny have been letting holiday cottages in Mousehole since the 1990s and aim to provide the high quality but friendly service which visitors expect. The high proportion of repeat bookings they enjoy are ample evidence that their visitors continue to be satisfied.

The property was immaculate and ideally located so we were able to walk to just about everything. There are many interesting shops and fantastic restaurants and pubs close by. The scenery is amazing and we had lots of excellent photo opportunities. We really enjoyed our stay!

Gwylen House; A perfect stay in Mousehole

  • 5 of 5

The property exceeds its description. Easy to find and access, tucked away in a quiet beautiful location within a shells throw distance from the harbour. Spotlessly clean, generously equipped and furnished to the highest standard, this cottage is a real gem with everything provided to make for a really comfortable and relaxing holiday, whilst at the same time offering a real home from home feel. Listening to the lapping sea...a perfect way to fall asleep and watching the sun rise over the harbour...a great way to wake up. John and Jenny are helpful and friendly "hosts" with a thoughtful welcome pack provided, and a friendly call to meet us and offer any information and advice on the surrounding areas. Great places to walk to and a few good eateries in the village, and of course the wider attractions of this part of Cornwall are within easy reach of Mousehole

Location

From the Owner

Mousehole once visited is never forgotten and will draw you back like a magnet. The picturesque ancient harbour, the yachts and dinghies, the rock pools, the friendly village cafes, pubs and restaurants, the galleries and gift shops, the village events each year, all have a strong attraction which is hard to resist. Welcome to our village - for A Mousehole Holiday.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Newquay at 45 Miles Nearest Barpub : Ship Inn at 100 Metres Nearest Train : Penzance at 3 Miles Nearest Restaurant : 2 Fore Street at 150 Metres Nearest Beach : Harbour at 25 Metres Car: recommended

The Cornish Coastal Path has some of the best walking to be found anywhere and the traditional walk from Mousehole to Lamorna is delightful. Art lovers will find galleries and working artists in the village and Penlee House in Penzance and Tate St Ives have exhibitions all the year round. Summer performances may be enjoyed at the open air Minack theatre and all year at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro. There are several geocaches in Mousehole to be found.

Coast/Beach:

There are two sandy beaches in Mousehole harbour, which is tidal. Each is a short walk. Rock pools and a tidal paddling pool can be found along the rocky coast beyond the harbour. Other nearby beaches may be found at Marazion, Porthcurno, Sennen, St Ives and Praa Sands. Sea fishing is available by boat from Penzance, off the rocks, or from the end of the Mousehole harbour quays.

Travel:

There is a frequent bus service from Mousehole to Penzance 3 miles away where there is a direct rail link to London Paddington, or to Bristol and Birmingham for the midlands and the north. Newquay airport has flights to and from London Gatwick and Manchester all year and other summer services. Local taxis and car hire are available. To visit the Scilly Isles The Scillonian sails daily in the summer months and flights leave from Lands End Airport.

Further Details:

The village shop is well stocked with most basic requirements and a range of fresh products, hot pasties, newspapers, magazines, off licence and post office. There is a good choice of cafes and takeaways, traditional pubs with food, a fish and chip shop, fine dining (and lunching!) all within easy walking distance. There are galleries and gift shops with local artists at work, arts and crafts and souvenirs.

Village events are organised through the year - the Sea Salts and Sail festival, the Mousehole Carnival with pirates, the Mousehole Regatta in and outside the harbour, the annual service of thanksgiving for the Lifeboat, frequent concerts by the Mousehole Male Voice Choir and perhaps most famous - the Mousehole Harbour Christmas Lights where the entire village is lit up with coloured displays with a seasonal theme for three weeks over Christmas and the New Year.

Facilities

From the Owner

Gwylan House enjoys one of the most idyllic positions in Mousehole, tucked away from the road, facing the sea, with its superb views over Mounts Bay. We originally bought and renovated this "dream house" for our own use but are now able to let others enjoy it all the year round for their holidays or just to come to Mousehole for the experience. Families or couples, for a week or more, or just a short break, everyone will be surrounded by the comfort, peace and sense of relaxation which Gwylan House provides.
