About Melinda Barry

I love to escape the bustle of everyday life and spend time by the sea. I live just a few miles from Beach Retreat so I'm always on hand to offer my guests any assistance they need or provide local information! For direct bookings please email me, beachretreat@btinternet.com.

Melinda Barry purchased this chalet in 2010

Why Melinda Barry chose Seasalter

Beach Retreat is my dream house by the sea which I bought a few years ago. It's my pleasure to make it available to my guests, many of them regulars, who love this spot as much as I do. All rental income has been put into improving the property, most recently with a beautiful new kitchen area.

What makes this chalet unique

Beach Retreat is remote and peaceful, yet not isolated. Convenient shops in the village of Seasalter are within walking distance; Whitstable with its working harbour, boutique shops and restaurants is 5 minutes drive, or a pleasant 45 minute walk around the bay. Birdwatchers need hardly leave the house, just wait for the seabirds to arrive at low tide! But Swale Nature Reserve is just down the beach, and Oare Marshes Reserve, with trails and hides for birdwatchers, is a few miles away near Faversham. For a unique local gourmet experience, try The Sportsman down the road - but you will need to book in advance!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Silence, Solitude and Sunsets – Magical"

“It was the perfect blissful escape from the hustle and bustle of London.”

"We are in love!! The Beach Retreat is magical and has everything you need. We had a mix of weather with very little sunshine and we enjoyed every minute. On days out I was homesick for the Beach Retreat. We can’t wait to return.”

Lovely little chalet.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little chalet. Very warm, compact and cosy. Everything you could possible need. Near to Whitstable/Herne Bay/Tankerton. We had great weather in March but it did rain during the night so when you went for walks, boots were muddy but could be washed off with the hose but it needs a porch/canopy just somewhere you could leave them to dry off outside the house in colder months but that would not stop us visiting again. Very quiet area and we enjoyed a bottle or 2 looking at the views! Lots of walking to do in both directions. Will definitely visit again. Thank you.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay! Look forward to welcoming you again, and I hope you have sunny weather, but if it does rain, you can pop your boots under the decking by the steps, where they should dry off nicely!

Very smart and pretty also everything was immaculate

We were lucky to have sunshine and we were able to walk to where the beach had soft clean sand, the sea shells were amazing. Every thing we needed and more had been catered for.

We took binoculars and saw some amazing birds.

Holiday at Beach Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Lovely secluded location next to the beach and sea. Great views over Isle of Sheppey with spectacular sunsets in the evening. A wonderful place for drawing and painting. A changing landscape provided the inspiration. A very peaceful and relax setting to enjoy a seaside holiday. Beach walking and observing the wildlife was particularly satisfying. Chalet accommodation provided all the things you would normally expect, a comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and shower room, Wifi and TV. Easy to self cater as local shop down the road was close by. Both Whitstable and Faversham were nearby and worth a visit. Overall, we were very pleased with Beach Retreat but would recommend a summer weight duvet on the bed. Planning for a further visit at a different time of the year is a likely prospect.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. The duvets we use are warm winter weight October to March, and medium weight March to September. However we're always happy to accomodate special requests such as warmer, lighter or feather-free bedding. We look forward to welcoming you back to Beach Retreat!

This really is the perfect beach retreat - I cannot recommend it enough. So peaceful with only birds for company, yet only a 45 minute walk along the seafront in to the centre of Whitstable. Sit in bed and watch the waves or laze in the sun on the deck in the stripy deck-chairs, it's ideal if you need to unwind. A really lovely cottage; clean, fresh and packed full with all that you could need. We very much hope to be back!
