Our countryside property is situated in the small hamlet of La Poulaillerie which is 2km from the nearest village. We are 30 minutes from the historical port of La Rochelle and the beaches of Chatelaillon Plage. The islands of Ile de Re and Ile de Oleron are within reach also Royan, Cognac and Saintes are worth a visit. Ideal for a relaxing family holiday and a good location for walking, cycling, fishing and sailing. We have installed a heated pool and large enclosed patio area for 2013, which is separate from the main south facing garden.

An excellent holiday house :0)

Everything was as described and the house, gardens etc were spotless; the customer service offered and delivered by the owners was nothing short of excellent and we, as a family, cannot recommend this house & the owners highly enough!

The house is situated a 10min drive away from the main town - which has everything needed (Supermarket etc). With the house being located in what feels like the middle of a vast farm it has total piece and quiet and we found it a great place to chill out - well when the kids weren't going mad in the pool!

La Rochelle is 30-45mins away by car and there are plenty of other towns within the same distance.

We loved our stay and will be back again next year - and more than likely for many years to come :0)

Excellent house with great heated pool. Very comfortable house with plenty of space. Very well equipped and very clean. Highly recommended.

We spent two excellent weeks at the Poulaillerie. The property is very well equipped and welcoming. It has everything you may need. It is spacious and provided an ideal setting for a holiday with our daughter, son-in-law and their three children. We enjoyed eating out under the pergola with the built in barbecue. We very much appreciated the small sitting room with chikdren's toys and the secure little courtyard where the toddler could play safely. The pool area is also very secure and well designed. We loved the pool. Surgeres is a very pleasant little town with everything one needs. I loved being back in Charente Maritime where I spent many happy holidays as a child. I would go back without hesitation.

Nearest Airport : La Rochelle at 45 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

We are 30 minutes drive from the beaches and coastline around La Rochelle.

Also within easy reach of all the islands for a pleasant day out.

Chatelaillon Plage is within 30 minutes drive away and has a lovely long beach and lots of cafés and restaurants on the beach front.

Travel:

Airport La Rochelle 50 km

Railway Surgeres 10 km with TGV links

Ferry St Malo 375 km

Use of a car is essential.

Distances:

The nearest village is 2km away and is an easy cycle through the country lanes for your local bakers, butchers and small grocery shop.

There is a wide choice of good supermarkets, shops, bars, restaurants and banks in Surgeres 10 minutes away by car or a 30 minute cycle ride through the country lanes.

There are regular markets in Surgeres on a Saturday and Tuesday, great opportunity to practise your French with the locals.

Further Details:

There are plenty of attractions nearby, from the miniature boats at St Savinien (fun for children and adults) to the ancient Roman town of Saintes, with its great Roman amphitheatres.

La Rochelle is a great day out for all the family with its aquarium, small animal park,beaches, chic boutiques, shops, plenty of restaurants and of course Ernest ice-cream shop, delicious.

  • Notes on accommodation: No smoking inside the property please . Wifi available but can be intermittent due to rural location . Outside: The enclosed south facing garden has a built-in barbecue, shaded terraces and garden furniture for 8 people. At the back of the house is a newly constructed heated pool, 8 metres x 4 metres which is fully enclosed and has a large patio area for sunbathing and relaxing. Pool heated during the high and peak season . Utility Room: washing machine separate fridge for drinks ironing board and iron hoover selection of outdoor games Linen provided . Please bring your own towels for personal use and the pool/ beach . Other: Separate sitting room with sofa bed. Patio doors with access to a paved area,which is a little sun trap in the morning, also access to the heated pool and large patio area.
