About Fenella Elms

Fenella Elms, ceramics artist, works in the workshop at the far end of the long cottage. You will find some of her work in the barn and by prior arrangement you are welcome to visit the workshops to find out more during your stay.

Why Fenella Elms chose Marlborough

Alma Barn is attached to the end of a cottage where the owners, the Elms family, have lived for nearly 20 years. In this time the barn has been used for horses, cattle and lambing before special listing permission was given to restore the barn to make a holiday let from 2012.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"We stayed on New Years Eve, wanting peace following a difficult year. We received a very warm welcome and could not fault our stay, every little detail had been so carefully thought of. Fantastic!" (Toprooms Jan. 2013)

"That night we find rural peace in an exquisitely converted self-catering barn in the lovely village of Aldbourne, where sheep bleat and horses clop past as we eat morning croissants before a gigantic window, overlooking frost-rimmed fields" (Nicholas Roe, travel writer in The Times Dec. 2012)

"What a lovely cottage, everything all so well designed and over thought. Good energy here! We hope to back next year to satisfy our new addiction: crop circles!" (visitors from Holland and Germany, July 2012)

"A very well equipped and comfortable place to stay - thank you. We especially appreciated the little extra touches of flowers and fresh fruit. We look forward to a return visit to this little oasis!" (visitors from Scotland, October 2012)

Beautiful barn with beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We were recommended Alma Barn from friends and it did not disappoint. Absolutely stunning countryside and a peaceful village to match. Great pubs nearby or a short car journey to neighbouring towns. We are coming back for sure!

Lovely relaxing break!

  • 4 of 5

Thank you for a lovely stay. The barn was clean and well equipped and had everything we needed for a relaxing break.

The barn was in a great location only half a mile from local amenities. Would definitely recommend.

We hope to return again soon! Thank you!

Postcard perfect

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated our Mom's 70th Birthday by taking her to England and spent 4 days at Alma Barn. The property was perfect for my Mom, sister and I. We made family dinners, sat on the porch with coffee in the morning and took leisurely walks to local pubs and the co-op for fresh pastries in the morning. It was an ideal location for visiting sites across the country side - Stonehenge, Avebury, Bath, Strattorford on Avon, and Oxford. We would highly recommend this property. The owner Fenella and property manager Helen were gracious and helpful before and throughout our stay. We would love to visit again someday!

A perfect base for our wedding weekend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Alma Barn for 3 days following our wedding at a local barn. It was the prefect place to relax in luxury and peace after all of the wedding mayhem! The barn itself was clean, a great size and very nicely presented. It is in a lovely rural location with sheep grazing just outside the front door.

We enjoyed 2 nights in and 1 night out at the Blue Boar, a local traditional Wiltshire inn with welcoming hosts and good food.

The Alma Barn hosts were also very helpful in storing some clothes which had been left there in our rush to the airport.

We would certainly stay again, and so should you!

Joe & Izzy

Cosy and quirky property in a peaceful location.

  • 5 of 5

The barn was very cosy and quirky making it a unique stay. The bed was very comfortable and the barn itself is an extremely relaxing space, which is exactly what we were looking for. We did pop out once to the local pub 'The Crown' which was very friendly with a good choice of drinks including local ale, and the food was great.

Outstanding - Exceeded our expectations ....

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Alma Barn. We arrived coincidentally on the weekend of the Auldborn carnival and it was just amazing. The locals are super friendly and the accommodation flexible and of a high quality.

We would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to be close to major links and far enough away to be removed from the crowds.
