The White House in the Lakes is a large detached home with plenty of space both inside & out. Situated within walking distance of 2 excellent dining pubs! Close enough to Bowness & Lake Windermere to enjoy some shopping or lake activities yet far enough away to enjoy the secluded setting. Lots of lovely walks on your doorstep. A large well equipped kitchen, countryside views from each stylish bedroom, modern contemporary bathrooms together with a light and airy garden room and a large oak beamed lounge, with wood burning stove, makes this a very easy home for you to relax and enjoy. There is plenty of space outside for BBQ's and outside dining and lots of room for games with the children or simply lying on the lawn with a good book!

The Lakes is a premium location for all outdoor activities.

From the house, you can wander for miles along the local country lanes, most leading to some of the most noted pubs in Cumbria, including The Hare & Hounds (1 mile), The Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank (1.5 miles and North West pub of the year 2012) and the renowned Punch Bowl Inn in Crosthwaite - 2.5 miles.

There are numerous routes for both mountain and road biking in the area.

For sightseers, and beyond the incredible hills, mountains, forests and lakes, the delightful villages of Ambleside, Hawkshead, Sawrey (Beatrix Potter's home) are within 30 minutes.

If you are a sailer, then of course the Lake is close, to enjoy the water with boats for hire, or, if you bring your own trailered craft, the slip way into the Lake is 10-15 minutes away. Plenty of room here at The White House in the Lakes to park your craft between lake adventures.

Coast/Beach:

You are not far from Grange over Sands, a historic Victorian seaside town with great cafes, tea rooms & stunning views out to sea. You can see Blackpool Tower on a clear day! Past Grange, there is Ulverston, with pebble beaches to enjoy. Arnside, Silverdale and Morecambe are also close by.

Travel:

The White House in the Lakes is just 20 minutes from M6, junction 36.

Nearest airports are Liverpool (90 minutes), Manchester (100 minutes).

The nearest Train station is Oxenholme Lake District or Windermere, fed by Virgin Trains on the west coast line.

Distances:

The White House in the Lakes is approximately 10 minutes drive from the busy lake side town of Bowness On Windermere, 15 minutes from Windermere, 20 minutes from the market town of Kendal, with Keswick in the Northern Lakes 45 minutes away. Perfectly located for accessing so much The Lakes has to offer, yet peacefully set in rolling countryside. North Yorkshire can be reached within 40 minutes.

Further Details:

Bowness and Windermere both have small supermarkets and lots of cafes, restaurants and gift shops. At nearby Kendal you will find High Street shops such as M&S together with the larger supermarkets of Asda (24hrs) and Morrisons. You will find Banks at both Windermere and Kendal. In Kendal you will also find local Museums, The Brewery Arts Centre and Cinema. In Bowness you will also find a cinema and The Old Laundry Theatre. Rowing boats, canoes and kayaks can be hired at Bowness. At the Low Wood between Windermere and Ambleside you can hire a sailing boat and enjoy their health spa and gym. At Lakeside you can visit the Aquarium and nearby Fell Foot Park. If you are a keen mountain biker or road cyclist there are many varied routes from your doorstep - a gentle ride to Grange over Sands or a more challenging route to Gummer's How or around the Lake. Grizedale Forest and its attractions should be visited. You can catch the ferry from Bowness over to Hawkshead where you can visit Hill Top, the home of Beatrix Potter. A little further afield you can venture into North Yorkshire and visit Settle where you can go on the historic Settle to Carlisle Railway. Also close by are several very good pubs - The Hare & Hounds and The Masons Arms are within walking distance. The Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite is only 2.5 miles away and is renowned for it's fine dining. The Brown Horse at Winster is under 10 mins by car and The Swan at Newby Bridge where you can sit by the river is just over 10 mins away. Ambleside is well worth a visit situated at the other end of Lake Windermere. There are lots of walking shops, cafes and Zefferelli's Cinema and Restaurant. Further along the scenic road past Ambleside you will find Rydal and Grasmere where you will find the Wordsworth Museum and the famous Gingerbread shop. After a long walk visit The Traveller's Rest at Grasmere for a hearty meal and a drink or two!

Notes on accommodation: On entering the house via the entrance lobby, you find the huge lounge, with the kitchen off to the right, and the office, utility and downstairs toilet at the far end of the property. Patio doors to the gardens. Leading off the double height atrium stairway is The Garden Room also with patio doors to one of the garden terraces. Bedrooms 1 - 5 together with bathrooms are located on the first floor. The attic suite is on the second floor with a huge double bed with private bathroom. Outside, we have extensive gardens, all with walling or fencing, and protected by a gate to ensure the little ones cannot wander out to the lane. There is parking for approximately 6 cars within the grounds. The house is fitted with all mod cons, such as free wireless internet, SKY TV, large screen TV, DVD and Ipod dock. Outside: The extensive grounds provide plenty of parking for 6 vehicles, and tiered lawns, thus lots of space for children to run and play, all within sight of the main rooms. Gardening is provided weekly without the need for need access to the house. Exterior lockable shed to store your cycles. Utility Room: The separate fully equipped utility room houses a large Bosch washer, tumble dryer, sink. This room also leads out to into the gardens. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Thick fluffy towels are included, as are all linens. We even supply bathrobes for all adults during your stay. All towels and linens are changed weekly. We also provide complimentary toiletries in all bathrooms, courtesy of The White Company, London. Other: The Garden Room, a further living space, enjoys incredible westerly views from it's mass of windows, over fields and hills in all directions for miles. With patio doors leading to the upper terrace of the grounds. Large TV.

Excellent quality accommodation

We were a group of eleven people of all ages on a family weekend break. We are well travelled and the White House was one of the best holiday homes we have stayed in. The accommodation was of excellent quality with comfortable beds, good living spaces and a lovely large bright kitchen with everything you could possibly think of. Even though our weather was not great the children loved playing outside in their wellies and there was a great 'sun room' where we could supervise them easily. The owner responded to any questions we had promptly and I would not hesitate to book this property again

Perfect

Our long weekend at the White House in the Lakes was to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with our immediate family. We were banned from the cavernous kitchen by our son who insisted on cooking what turned out to be a wonderful celebratory meal. The house is spacious, beautifully equipped and spotless. The separate TV lounge and the spacious conservatory proved to be a real bonus (we had three grandchildren with us). A thoroughly enjoyable weekend was had by one and all (even though we were still unable to find the egg cups by the time we left).

Stunning property and location!

This house was the perfect location for our family holiday. We used all the different areas but the garden room especially, it was lovely being able to sit and see the beautiful views all around us. Everything that we needed was there along with some lovely welcoming gifts. Would love to visit again.

We also visited the 'Hare and Hounds' as recommended and the food was excellent.

Fantastic Birthday weekend!

Had an amazing weekend here celebrating my Father's 60th Birthday. The house had so many different areas to spend time - perfect for accommodating the 4 generations of my family staying for the weekend. Di had left us a lovely hamper which we thoroughly enjoyed. The kitchen was gorgeous and the garden room had amazing views and was perfect for keeping an eye on the boys playing in the garden. Our children spent most of the weekend exploring the garden and loved watching the cows and sheep in the field over the wall! We used the BBQ one night and enjoyed sitting out in the sun enjoying the views. Will definitely be returning here!

A lovely house in a wonderful setting

We had a very good week in the Lake District. The White House in the Lakes was as described on the website, and the owner, Di Gale, was very helpful, friendly and prompt in her responses to our queries. The house was very appropriate for a large family reunion, with several sitting/TV/reading rooms, a great kitchen, excellent amenities, clean and well-maintained. There were superb views from all windows, and we were fortunate in having a week of unbroken sunshine. Our party enjoyed hiking, scrambling, climbing around the nearby Langdale Fells, as well as boating on Lake Windermere and general sightseeing.

I would recommend the property to anyone looking for a large house in a great setting. However, I was surprised to find a charge of £300 added to my final payment. What is the reason for that? The owner later told me that this was a new booking fee, but I do feel I should have been told about this before it appeared on my invoice. I had thought that this was the refundable deposit, but it appears not to be the case. I feel there should be more transparency in the charges that are added to the total.
