Cosy Cottage At The Edge Of The Wood

Updated: 03-Sep-2016
South lodge in Ford, Nr. Lochgilphead, Strathclyde, Scotland - Peaceful Location And A Short Walk To The Loch Side

South lodge is off a private drive with ample parking space. It is in an elevated position with 3 steps up into the cottage. It has everything you will need for a week away from it all. It has its own log shed and shelter for bikes, roof boxes etc. Loch Ederline can be seen from the cottage which looks over to the main house. Ospreys nest on the loch every year and are seen regularly from the cottage. Red squirrels come to the cottage bird feed table as well as many woodland birds. There is an abundance of wild life to be seen around the cottage and on the estate.

About the Owner

I was born in Lochgilphead and have spent a large part of my childhood in Argyll. I am married to Angus and have three children. We took over the estate from my father in 2003. It is a fantastic way of life which we love to share with our guests and help them to see the best of the area. There is too much to do and see in a week but once you have been you will want to return!

"Returned home relaxed after a few days away in the lovely Ederline Estate. We stayed in the little white South lodge cottage and we arrived late in the night, what a surprise it was to arrive to a roaring fire awaiting us on our arrival! Simply wonderful, scenic, peaceful and plenty of logs to keep us cosy. Will return in the future as it really was a great experience, even the dog was chilled out by the fire. Thanks Willa and her partner for a lovely stay! If you love the film' The Hoilday' then all I can say is book the South Logde! Caroline-Glasgow November2012

Thank you for a lovely week for our first time in Scotland. Great walks especially up to the hill lochs on the estate and a cosy cottage and log fire to come back to"

"A lovely cottage in a beautiful place. Many thanks for a super week - just the peace and quiet we needed. The brilliant shower was wonderful after a strenuous walk!

South Lodge

  • 5 of 5

We booked South Lodge for 5 days and were not disappointed. Fantastic cottage with all your home comforts and more. Never have we slept in a bigger of comfier bed. The log burner was a novelty so we had it on every night even although it wasn't really needed. The area itself has breathtaking views and is central for trips to Oban and Campbeltown. We will definitely revisit this part of our beautiful country!

Lochgilphead 12 miles.

Oban 27 miles.

Inveraray 32 miles.

Further Details:

There are an abundance of good restaurants in the local area- Loch Melfort Hotel, Crinan Hotel, Galley or Lorne Ardfern, Cairnbaan Hotel, Kilmartin and Bridgend have good pub food which are less than 15 minute drive. Lochgilphead which is 15 minutes drive has a good super market, butcher, fishmonger, deli, tackle shop, swimming pool and two petrol stations. The coast line is amazing especially from the sea and can be explored in organised boat trips from Ardfern (Gemini Cruises). There are also high speed RIB boat trips out to see the second largest whirlpool in the world called the Correvreckan, look at Seafari from the Island of Seil.

We are 45 mins to Oban to the north which is the gateway to the Islands and 45 minutes to Inveraray in the south which has the jail and the castle to explore. Kilmartin Glen which is rich in archaeology is only 10 minutes away and has a museum which explains all that can be found in the glen. Kilmartin also has a post office and a pub.

Mountain biking is very popular in this area and there are lots of organized routes and tracks through the forestry and hills. Lochgilphead also has a bike shop which would cater for all your needs. We do hire out bikes if needed.

Pony trekking is available in the local area at Ardfern and Inveraray.

The Estate has hill loch fishing for wild brown trout in 24 hill lochs and pike fishing in Loch Ederline. Boats and canoes can be hired for the day.

Ederline and the surrounding area has something for everyone!

From the Owner

South Lodge is close to Loch Ederline for fishing. It has everything you would need for a wonderful week. It has under floor heating in the bathroom and we get a lot of comments for the excellent power of the shower!! Not surprising as it comes off the storage tanks up the hill! You are close to our house so we are only a short walk if you need anything!!

  • Notes on accommodation: It was built in the early 1800s and as the name suggests was the south entrance gate house to the main house. Outside: The cottage has a private garden which is on a slope, it is mainly lawn with two perennial borders in front of the cottage. It has a barbecue area and a bird table and garden seat and table. It has a shelter which is ideal for keeping bikes, roof boxes etc under cover. There is also a large log shed next to the cottage. The view looks over to the main house and across to the loch with mature beech trees lining the drive and the banks of the loch. A great place to unwind away from the busy world. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen/towels and tea towels are provided. Other: There is a porch with hanging space and room for boots etc.
