Houses in Mont-Dol, Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany, France - Peaceful Location With Country Views Of The Historic Site Of Mont Dol
Manoir de l'Ormelais offers three very different but equally charming gites to rent. The main house dating from the early 19th Century looks out over its own large walled garden is the grandest of the buildings. The other two buildings, Le Vieux Manoir and Le four a Pain, cluster around the central courtyard date from the 17th-century, so they are smaller and cosier in style. All the gites blend stylish modernity with country charm. One of the main attractions of this site is its location. It is perfectly positioned for exploring the famous Mont St. Michel bay and other varied attractions of this beautiful region of Brittany. Discover its sandy beaches, rocky coves, estuaries, medieval towns, and many more places of interest. However, after a day packed with activities, the weary holidaymaker will be delighted to return to the peace and tranquility of Manoir de l'Ormelais, to stretch out on a sun lounger in the large gardens or take a leisurely walk through the fields.

About the Owner
Olivier and Lucy Dantec bought Manoir de l'Ormelais about 15 years ago. They took around 11 years loving restoring it. Now this wonderful old farm house and surrounding park has come back to life and is enjoyed by many who seek a peaceful holiday in cosy and relaxed surroundings. Olivier is a true Bretton, he likes nothing better than pruning his trees, talking to the owl that lives on the Four a Pain and riding around on his tractor. Lucy is English, a former milliner, she has added the decorative quirkinesss that was needed to finish off the manor with a stylish flourish!
Guestbook comments from the owner
"Set in a beautiful part of Brittany, this is a real gem of a place. We arrived on the hottest day of summer and our host Lucy despatched her husband Olivier to buy an umbrella for the garden for us within an hour. The place itself is gorgeous but what charmed us most was Lucy's warmth and genuine desire to ensure we were having a lovely time. Which we did. As did our two toddler boys - delighted by the daily supply of toys that Lucy produced for them from her kitchen. Lovely place, delightful host, highly recommended."
4.8 based on 5 holidaymaker reviews
A lovely house which suited us perfectly. 7 adults + 5 children and lots of spaces to explore and lots of lovely outdoors areas to play in. Books and toys throughout the house to keep the children amused while indoors. Lucy and Olivier very helpful and attentive throughout without being intrusive. A great location. Would definitely recommend.
A magical farmhouse which has lots of space, wonderful character and is an ideal base camp for a family holiday.
Three generations of family stayed (2 grandparents, 4 parents, 2 teenagers, 3 children aged 4-6 and 1 baby) over the summer holiday. The house had ample room for us to be together or not! Importantly the kitchen area was big enough for us all to have dinner together.
The three children loved their attic room, any of the three garden areas and the nearby horses.
The beach at Cherrueix (about 3km away) has a play ground, wonderful patisserie and miles of sand - the tide goes out quite away!
There is a nearby water and theme park (Cobac Parc) which suited the age ranges we had and was not overly busy.
Other recommendations would be the Creperie "Le Dol'Mene aux Saveurs" in nearby Dol-de-Bretagne.
Lucy was more than helpful in accommodating baby cots, room rearrangements, requests for eggs and the time the grandparents got locked out!
We truly enjoyed our recent stay at the Manoir de l'Ormelais. The gite was comfortable, the setting beautiful and the area is stunning. Lucy was incredibly helpful and kind. A real gem!
Beautiful and comfortable setting
We stayed here with friends (4 adults, 5 children in total) for a wonderfully relaxing Easter break. The house is very spacious and comfortable, the children loved their vast & cosy bedrooms and the grounds to play in outside. We were able to cycle easily from here to the coast as well as enjoying the creperies and cafes in the village itself and in nearby Dol de Bretagne. We would definitely recommend Le Manoir to friends and hopefully will be back some time too!
Le Four a pain- Happy Times
Le Four a Pain was a perfect location for myself, husband and three children to enjoy the many delights of this part of Britanny.
We brought bikes and had a number of enjoyable outings to the local villages, markets and attractions. We visited the coast, from Mont St. Michele to St Malo and on to Dinard, marking each new beach with more points than the last.
The gite has a walled garden, which is great if you're looking for some privacy, and you also have access to the main central courtyard garden.
Lucy, Olivier and Claire were real stars, happy to help when you needed it, genuinely friendly and very Laissez Faire - which is the French way.
Thanks from us all for a wonderful experience.
From the Owner
“We bought this property because it was in a great location for setting up a holiday business, being equidistant between the historic site of Mont St Michel, the pirate town of St Malo and the Medieval town of Dinan. It also offered the added bonus of being only a quick ferry journey over to Jersey, Lucy's childhood home. We love this area because it is wild and beautiful and yet close to so many wonderful places of interest. We also all adore seafood! It is obviously a blessing to live in the countryside and also have access to the TGV which can whisk you straight to Paris in 2 hours and 40 minutes!!”

From the Owner
“Living close to the most beautiful coast line is a huge gift and we find ourselves often walking along the windswept beaches in winter or rock pooling and swimming on the sandy, sheltered coves in summer. There is no end to the possibilities and the dear old Manoir has proven to be a great base for us. It is such fun for families as they can stay in large numbers all over the property in either the BnB or the Gites. They can enjoy being together but also retain a certain amount of autonomy and privacy. The beautiful barn with its pinp pong table is a great addition for all, especially in bad weather. The Manoir is a fabulous place too to hold a wedding or special event, although we only take these kinds of bookings off season.”
