For many years with young children in tow we holidayed all over France. The children loved the outdoor life, with plenty of sunshine, and we loved the French way of life, the people, the large open spaces and last, but not least, good food and wine. It became a dream to one day own a little slice of that French life and to find a haven of peace from our frenetic English lifestyle. After several years searching we found En Magne. Our children have now left home, but we all visit frequently together with our friends. We have had many happy times, so the house is full of fond memories. Current commitments mean we cannot spend as much time as we would like in our French home, so we thought we would take this opportunity to offer it for holidays.
Martin Symons purchased this farmhouse in 2000
Having spent 4 years looking in various parts of France, our then quite young children wanted to be near skiing and the beach. We both wanted an old farmhouse in a relatively rural, but not too isolated, location with plenty of space. The edge of a hamlet was ideal so we could get to know local people. When we saw En Magne on a hillside overlooking this glorious countryside, we knew it was for us. The children loved it too. Discovering much more of the area came later and we still find so much to do, although many of our friends who visit don’t want to leave En Magne and its environs.
Apart from the stunning location (surrounded by sunflowers in the summer), the area is very peaceful and the locals very friendly. Puylaurens (5kms) has a good supply of supermarkets, boulangeries, butcher, banks (with ATM), cave, tourist board and post office. There are several restaurants and cafes and a market on Wednesday. There is a Roman road within a 1km offering walking (randonees) and cycling. It is within an hour of Toulouse and Carcassone with easy airport access. The surrounding area has a vast selection of delightful towns and villages, many offering wonderful markets.
The interior of the house is beautifully elegant and stylish with spacious rooms and comfortable furniture. In fact I would say it’s almost perfect. We all enjoyed the pool which was really clean. KP 8/14
Beautiful house in French country style with an ideal pool to play in. Visited lots of nearby places – Albi, Revel & Castres GB 8/14
Just a quick email to say how much we've enjoyed our holiday at En Magne. It was thoroughly relaxing and you've catered for everything. We are definitely thinking about a return next year. CR 7/13
We had a lovely holiday thanks. Your house is wonderful and the location is really relaxing. The house was so well equipped. The welcome hamper of food was very nice (lovely wine). I liked Annette (the Housekeeper) - she popped round with her husband when we arrived. They are such friendly people and gave us some tips on nice places to go. SB 8/13
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at En Magne. What a beautiful place! It has inspired us to consider purchasing something ourselves in the Mid-Pyrenees. Extremely spacious and lovingly furnished (everything to a very high standard), bathrooms - size and fittings, lovely views and feeling of privacy. The house and grounds are so pleasant, relaxing and comfortable that we were very happy to base ourselves there and do little else! K&J 8/13
We spent two glorious weeks in this beautiful property. The house is stunning - very old but with all mod cons. Whilst it maintains its old charm the owners have put in modern bathrooms which are beautiful, a dishwasher in the kitchen with plenty of crockery and a washing machine in the utility area should you travel light or need to wash anything. The bedrooms are all roomy with plenty of storage space. Downstairs there is a large kitchen diner, a lounge with a TV and a library for peace and quiet. All rooms have comfortable furnishings which help you feel very 'at home'. There is a lot of space here, inside and out.
The pool area is surrounded by a patio edged with lavender and the pool itself is large enough to swim 'lengths'. There is space for children to kick a ball around and to play and a garage where you will find pool inflatables and games. It is useful to leave the car in here too to keep it cool. You will need a car here as it is quite rural and to explore the area. Puylaurens is the nearest town for supermarkets and Patisseries. We also visited Albi, Toulouse and Carcassonne to name a few.
The house is private and accessed via electric gates which makes it feel very secure. The housekeeper is lovely and very helpful even though we didn't speak particularly good French. We arrived very late and she was there to meet us and give us a tour. There was also a 'welcome pack' of the bare essentials to get us through the first morning.
The owner was very helpful when we needed advice and was very quick to respond to emails and texts.
We had such a lovely holiday here that we are considering booking again.
Just returned from a week in this property. Lovely location in rolling countryside, very well furnished and equipped. Perfect large pool, plenty of space in the house for 8 people and full of character. Everyone throughly enjoyed themselves. Would go again,
Ideal for families with children that like swimming in the lovely pool.
The photos did not do justice to the beautiful countryside
Everything to hand in the kitchen for home cooked meals.
The house and pool were very clean and the caretakers were very friendly and helpful. A little French language us a help.
The nearby village of Puy Lauren had a typical French market on Wednesdays. An excellent Cave to purchase local wine.
The town of Revel has a very large market on Saturdays with areas outside the town to picnic or swim in the Lake.
An ideal place to relax.
I had a great time staying here, its very spacious and has obviously been looked after. Its in a relaxing country setting and had all the amenities we needed. The whole house was very clean and the fresh linen sheets were excellent.
Wonderful pool with terrace for sun bathing and relaxing.
We visited many of the surrounding attractions, the lake, the beach at Narbonne and Carcasonne/Toulouse which are both beautiful cities.
Would highly recommend this property, I will be back again
A beautiful house with great views and gardens. We were seven and the house is very comfortable to suit big families. The swimming pool is fantastic, our children loved it. The property was very clean and had lots of information about places to visit. We even needed an urgent dentist and the one recommended in the nearby village was very good. Fantastic service from the owners, I will definitely recommend this property to anybody who wants a quiet place to relax.
A great place: deliberately unspoilt exterior but with a delightful interior put together with style and with everything you will need - and plenty of space.
