Cottage in Denby Dale, Nr. Holmfirth, Yorkshire, England. - Lots To Do In The Area For Adults And Children Alike

Cuckstool Cottage offers you ideal holiday accommodation, in a lovely location on the edge of the bustling village of Denby Dale. Denby Dale is known as the 'Pie Village' because of the historic tradition on making monster meat and potato pies to celebrate national events. (You can buy normal size pies in the village) The unique character of the village is due to its range of specialist shops, including old-fashioned butcher's, book shop, craft shop, delicatessen, rustic furniture etc. There's also a good range of eateries nearby. The cottage has full central heating, TV and DVD, Free Wifi (just bring your own laptop) and our prices include all utilities, bed linen and towels . We leave lots of information in the cottage so you can make the most of your stay. There is so much to do in this area you will never be bored!

The cottage is child and pet-friendly. (Small dogs welcome @ £15 extra per stay)

The cottage has a good sized, well-equipped kitchen, with full oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. The lounge is spacious with comfortable sofas, an impressive stone fireplace with electric stove, TV with Freesat channels, DVD player, books and games. Upstairs you will find the family bathroom and 3 bedrooms - One double, one twin and a single room. (sleeps 5 plus baby) We have a booster seat/high chair and a travel cot available (please bring own cot linen) The house has full gas central heating, off-street parking and free Wifi.

Why Philippa chose Yorkshire Dales

Denby Dale is such a lovely village with great amenities, and we just love the view over the cricket field from Cuckstool Cottage. There's a wealth of things to do in this area. We love the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Holmfirth, and Cannon Hall Open Farm is a must if you have children.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is well-equipped and homely, and we leave lots of information there so you can make the most of your stay. This is a rambler's paradise with so many way-marked walks. There are some excellent local eateries too!

“Great accommodation, great location”

Excellent cottage with all mod cons located within easy commuting distance of a variety of places, whether you like shopping, the outdoors or sightseeing.

There is a railway station 10 mins walk away which allows cheap and easy access to Leeds city centre. All in all a great stay no matter what you have planned, we will definitely return.

"Home from Home”

We have just returned from a lovely half term holiday from what I could only call a home from home. Really well kitted out cottage and as for position great for strolls (or walks if you are the fitter type!!) go position for local attractions within 30 minutes. My boys were so impressed that the cottage had wifi...!!! Nice looking out over the bowling green we will be returning again. The thing that also made things feel so good was the contact given from the owner who kept us well informed both before hand by email and also by the information pack in the cottage.

Cosy, well stocked cottage . Ideally located close to the village.

The cottage is comfortable, very warm and has a cosy lived in feel about it. The kitchen is well stocked with plenty of kitchen equipment and appliances. The 2 bedrooms are of a good size & although the single room is small it is ideal for a child or one person, there is not a lot of storage space but it is adequate for a short stay. Local shops are in walking distance .

Owner's Response: We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Each bedroom does have it's own hanging space and chest of drawers. There are shelves in the single bedroom as well as storage drawers under the bed as detailed in our House Manual.

Spacious, comfortable and well-equipped

Cuckstool Cottage was really comfortable and well-equipped. I was especially impressed with the kitchen, having stayed in many holiday cottages over the years which had next to nothing in the way of pots, pans and utensils. This cottage had everything you could need. The view out over the cricket pitch at the front of the cottage was lovely - on the Sunday afternoon we came back from our visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and had a birds-eye view of the cricket match in progress! The beds were comfortable, the bedrooms decorated really nicely, and the bathroom had a superb, powerful shower. My only concern was that a non-slip mat for the shower was not provided. The only reason I have not given five stars is because the cottage backs onto a busy main road; my sister had the bedroom on this side of the cottage and she said the traffic noise was a little intrusive at night. Other than this minor drawback, I highly recommend this cottage.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and I'm pleased you had a good stay and enjoyed the cottage and Denby Dale. Just for clarification to other potential guests, the 'busy' road you mention in your review is the thoroughfare through Denby Dale village. Whilst it can get somewhat busy at commuter times, it is not busy all day and usually at night there is little traffic. Only the single room at the back of the house has a window that faces this road (the other bedrooms look out across the cricket field and to the woods beyond) and the windows are double glazed. Unsure if your sister is perhaps a light sleeper as we have never had noise mentioned with guests using that room over the past 4 years it's been a holiday rental. The cottage itself is in a peaceful and quiet location and the village road does not have any impact on the living accommodation downstairs and both other bedrooms. I will in future make sure a non-slip mat is available. Thank you for the suggestion.

Great location.

Location is great.Views from the front of the property overlooking the bowling green and cricket pavilion also.

It was so relaxing to watch and bowlers out there most days

The village has everything you need and is only 2 minutes walk when strolling

The house has no back donor and it's only entrance via the front door has 2 steps. The garden is assessed from here so the dog could safely run around when it was a safe enclosure. The beds were comfy and i would have liked an updated set of towels and bed linen. We had a great week and would stay here again

Do you mean you wanted a change of towels half way through your stay? We usually change towels and bedding half way through a two week stay, but yours was only one week. We don't have daily housekeeping as you can appreciate, as this is a self-catering holiday home not a hotel. Had you asked for a change of towels/bedlinen though, this could have been accommodated

welcoming and comfortable stay

The property description is fully accurate and it provided a welcoming and comfortable stay for us and our 2 dogs. Philippa could not have been more helpful and her speed of response to all our queries before arrival was first class. The property is really convenient for shops and local eateries - all of a high standard and within walking distance. We would certainly return and fully recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the area.
