About the property

Cottage in Hele Bay, Ilfracombe, North Devon, England - Quiet Location, just 300m From Hele Beach On The South West Coastal Path and near great walks

The miller's cottage nestles quietly in the grounds of the 16th century watermill and award winning tearoom and offers a peaceful break without being remote and isolated. Ideal for families wishing to explore Ilfracombe with its festivals and events as well as the sandy beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde to the west and Exmoor to the east. The mill stream runs past the property and can be viewed from both bedrooms, the kitchen and lounge. The tearoom gardens can be used anytime for alfresco dining (private use when tearooms closed) and a tour of the mill is guaranteed! The skies by the cottage are often clear and provide an ideal location for stargazing whilst listening to the stream and owls. Ilfracombe golf course is less than a mile away. Swimming pool, theatre and cinema in Ilfracombe.

About Kathy Jones

We, the Jones family, moved to Ilfracombe in May 2011 from West London in our quest to renovate a mill, either wind or water. Hele Cornmill fulfilled this brief, presenting us with various challenges and projects.

We returned to milling on the water powered stones in Summer 2012. The mill is open to the public and we would be pleased to give a guided tour to interested parties.

The Tearooms have gone from strength to strength and we have won the Devon Life "Best Tearoom" award in 2013 and 2014 so delicious cake and cream teas are always to hand!

We've enjoyed our first few years discovering the North Devon coast and look forward to sharing our findings with you!

Why Kathy Jones chose Ilfracombe

Hele Corn Mill in North Devon with it's beautiful coastline, coastal walks, and sandy beaches is an ideal location.

The mill is just 1 mile out of Ilfracombe, accessed without navigating twisty, one car wide roads which suited my driving skills! And yet it has a country setting, 300m from Hele Beach, ideal for rock pooling and dog walking. Night time often provides clear skies and excellent stargazing opportunities to the sound of the stream and owls.

From Hele the beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde can be accessed in 20mins, Exmoor 25 mins, Barnstaple 25 mins, and Exeter 80 mins.

Situated on the Southwest Coastal path and Hillsborough Area of Outstanding Beauty there are lots of walks from the cottage or further afield.

What makes this cottage unique

The Miller's Cottage is unique in its setting next to the working Corn Mill which dates back to 1525. The mill stream passes round the cottage and can be viewed from the kitchen, bedrooms and lounge.

The Teagarden is available for picnics at all times with private use when the Teagardens are not open and, with the tearooms close by, mill-made cakes and cream teas are always on hand! To welcome you, a cream tea will await you in the cottage on arrival.

We've found the cottage ideal for those who want to explore the area on foot, chill out at the beach, walk to Ilfracombe to see Verity, (Damien Hirst's statue), play golf or visit family attractions.

Although we don't live on site, we are often around during the day, especially in high season, and are on hand to give advice if requ

Cosy, great location with a warm welcome.

The cottage was lovely and comfortable and everything we needed was there including a cream tea - which was delicious.

We were snowed in and Kathy helped us in letting us stay on until we could get home safely.

Thank you

A must visit

  • 5 of 5

Kathy and David were very welcoming and had the cottage spot on for our stay. Very friendly and informative and a ideal place to stay away from the bustling town centre. Heel beach was fascinating and the Hislborough hill walk to Ilfracombe was a challenge but well worth doing. Get so many differing views of the beautiful coast line.

The cottage was ideal for,the two of us and the dog. A very warm living area was aided by a log burner which was nice to sit in front. The stream runs past the cottage constantly and the sound was great. We will be back.

The cream tea that Kathy and David offer is really worth a try. Also a free walk round the mill to see what people in times past got up to. David is clearly passionate about the mill and how he and Kathy are going to keep the history of the place going and to ensure people have a good time learning about how and why things were done in the way they were.

Great time. Fully recommend a visit
