About the Owner

I live in England with my family. We have moved around the country for various reasons and although we love travelling we really wanted somewhere constant in our lives that we could return to again and again, a place where we feel at home.

Lovely welcoming house.

  • 5 of 5

An extremely comfortable house in a great location, town only 5 mins walk away. We all enjoyed our break in this spacious property, loads of room for everyone. Well equiped with pleasant views - all we could wish for. We are already looking at possible dates for our next visit.

Dirty house not cleaned. Owner doesn't respond

  • 1 of 5

This house clearly hadn't been cleaned since last renters over xmas. Dirty faeces on outside of toilets, filthy greasy cooker I have photos shame I can't post. Garden full of rubbish along with rusty broken furniture. Contacted owner no response, had to buy cleaning products and took 4 adults to get it to a reasonable state. Owner took no accountability at all and not interested. Took 10 days to get bond back. Disgusting overall would not recommend. Strange how all other reviews are such a contrast!

Owner's Response: We have been letting our house successfully for six years, with a succession of lovely and perfectly reasonable guests, but I suppose it was probably inevitable that we would eventually end up with some ‘professional’ complainers, whose main purpose was to seek compensation. I am not going to dignify this review with a point by point response. Suffice it to say that it rapidly became clear that it didn’t matter what we said or did, it was never going to be satisfactory. We received rude and aggressive texts, threatening us with a bad review so were not surprised by this. I think the fact that it has been posted anonymously says it all and the other reviews speak for themselves. I am so grateful for all the other genuine holiday makers we have had in the house over the years, otherwise this would have been a really bruising and off-putting experience.

Great house for a large group

  • 4 of 5

We found this house very good value, and comfortable for a group of 10. There is plenty of space, the rooms are comfortable and well-equipped, and were very clean. There are plenty of bathrooms for a group, and the kitchen had everything we needed. People with problems managing stairs may not find this house suitable but otherwise I would recommend it as a great place to stay for a visit to Whitby and the area. It is a short walk to the centre of Whitby and easy to find. The owner is very easy to deal with.

An Amazing Stay, Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for Christmas and it was absolutely perfect, warm cosy house, full of all the amenities, dishwasher, washing machine and great kitchen, very good-size oven. Definitely accommodated all of our family, with lots of crockery. Great fish and chips shop and the end of the street along with shops and a butchers. Whitby Town is a short walk away. We had an amazing christmas stay! I would highly recommend it!

A lovely week spent in Whitby with our friends. House was perfect for the 9 of us with plenty of space for us all. Ideal location with a 10 minute walk in to Whitby and lots of places to visit a short drive away.

Location

From the Owner

We love Whitby and I've been visiting it since I was a teenager. It's like the town time forgot, where life goes on at a gentle pace and pleasures are simple - walking up to the Abbey, wandering along the harbour wall, visiting Bothams for ginger bread and Wenslydale. It sometimes takes us a while to slow down when we get there but then when we have, it's doubly hard to leave. The North York Moors are fabulous and we love going round the coast to the Raven Hall Hotel at Ravenscar for a traditional Sunday lunch whilst enjoying beautiful views.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The main beach at Whitby is 10-15 minutes on foot, quicker on the way there as it's downhill. Lots of other beaches and coastal towns/villages accessible by car, of particular note Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough.

Travel:

Nearest airports are Durham-Tees Valley, Leeds-Bradford, Newcastle.

Mainline stations at York and Darlington. Connecting trains to Whitby from Middlesbrough.

Distances:

York - 47 miles

Scarborough - 20 miles

Guisborough - 22 miles

Durham - 60 miles

Newcastle - 71 miles

Further Details:

At end of road, about 1 minute's walk - fish and chip shop (very popular with our family!), butcher's shop, corner shop and friendly little pub 'First In Last Out', complete with real ales and pub quiz on Wednesdays. Whitby now benefits from the recent addition of Sainsburys Supermarket on the outskirts of the town on the Scarborough Road and a great Co-op in the town centre as well as other supermarkets e.g. Somerfields, Lidl etc.

Whitby is a great town for a holiday or short break whatever the season, just as attractive in the winter as in the summer, always with plenty going on and plenty to do. As well as the beach and the Abbey, Whitby town centre has the station with the North Yorkshire Moors Railway trains taking people over the beautiful North York Moors to Grosmont and Pickering and is well worth a trip. That's in addition to all the fabulous places to visit in the surrounding countryside, often described these days as 'Heartbeat Country'.

Facilities

From the Owner

We love this house! It's so light and roomy and there are plenty of places you can all congregate or, you can go to the furthest reaches and get away from each other when you want peace and quiet or the company of a good book. We love the convenience of being able to walk into town and yet it's also so easy to access the countryside on foot, right from the front door. We have a fab fish and chip shop at the end of the road (at least as good as other rather more well known establishments!) and a friendly little pub down the street with a handy 'open all hours' round the corner. It's so quick to get into the town centre on foot with all the attractions but it's also easy to get in and out onto the main road networks by car.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: The house is centrally heated and south facing so generally lovely and warm, even on very cold winter days. Parking is on-street, as it is in much of Whitby, but we have not found this to be a problem. All gas and electricity is included. Sorry - no pets and no smoking. Outside: There is a back yard giving access to the barbecue and outdoor furniture plus washing line, bin etc. At the front of the house is a small, private lawned front garden which in the summer is a perfect little sun trap and can get very warm! Across the road is an enclosed children's play park with plenty of space to play outdoor games. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen included. No towels. One week bookings, all cleaning at end of stay included in price. For bookings longer than one week, extra cleaning and clean bed linen can be arranged at an extra charge. Other: Dining room - large table with seating for 10, plus 2 x high chairs.
