Cottage in Llanfair Clydogau, Nr. Lampeter, Tregaron, Ceredigion, Wales - Secluded setting, great walks and views, nature on your doorstep

A traditional stone cottage and barn conversion set within the heart of Cardiganshire countryside. Perfect for the relaxing holiday break if you're looking for peace, quiet and nature on your doorstep.

Cottage comprises three bedrooms (one ensuite in a self-contained annexe). Two wood stoves and log baskets provided on arrival. Flat screen TV, hi-fi, iPod dock, internet access, dishwasher, washer drier.

Great for walks whether going down the valley to the river or up to the hills. Forestry is close by. Campfire area in large garden, and swings and slides for children. Attractive coastal towns of Aberaeron and New Quay just over half an hour's drive.

Local sites of interest are the gold mines (seasonal opening) at Dolaucothi dating back to Roman times, and Llyn Brianne reservoir near Tregaron. We’ve been going to this region of Wales for over 40 years and love it. It's the perfect antidote to city life. Visit Wales 4 star rating.

About the Owner

My brother and I have owned this property since 1992 when it was handed down to us by our parents. We've been lucky enough to visit this region of Wales since we were children and know the area very well. This cottage is more than a holiday home, it's literally a home from home. It is an area of outstanding beauty throughout the year, and has a strong sense of community.

Location

From the Owner

One great plus about this location is its seclusion, combined with space. The pace of life is perfect for recharging the batteries, and any amateur zoologist will find they're living in an area teeming with wildlife. We even have a resident owl who you may be lucky enough to see when it's nesting above the annexe.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Cardiff-Wales at 48.1 Miles Nearest Train : Llandovery at 18.3 Miles Nearest Beach : Aberaeron at 17.6 Miles Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

Just over half an hour's drive to Aberaeron, and another 15 mins takes you to the popular New Quay.

Aberaeron is a very pretty harbour town, and has been featured on Welsh tourism promotions. It's well worth the drive. A stand-out attraction is the honey ice cream shop by the quay. The fishmonger next door sells excellent quality fish. Also try the fish and chip shop/diner by harbour parking bays - the best you can find locally.

Travel:

A car is necessary for this holiday. It's approximately 4 hours drive from London Heathrow/west London.

If you're UK-based then we'd advise you drive all the way unless that's a problem. You'll see fantastic scenery travelling by day, particularly in Wales. We've been driving from London and Brighton for decades.

An alternative could be Swansea airport or train station which are just over an hour away. Car hiring facilities will be available there. Book ahead.

Distances:

Llanfair Clydogau is the local village, 1.5 miles.

Cellan is the next village (Fishers Arms, good pub, pool table) 2.5 miles

Lampeter (main town) 4 miles, 2 supermarkets, butcher, bakeries, banks, chemists etc.

Caeiago Horse Riding and Trekking Centre, 3.5 miles, in Ffarmers

Roman gold mines (seasonal opening) at Dolaucothi, 6.5 miles

Nearest hospital in Camarthen, 27 miles

Further Details:

Local interest

Llanfair Clydogau has a small but well-stocked shop. You'll find it next to a pretty bridge over popular trout fishing river Teifi. Fishing licences can be bought at shop.

Gold mines (seasonal opening) at Dolaucothi dating back to Roman times, nr Pumsaint.

Llyn Brianne reservoir near Tregaron. The drive from Tregaron (town 20 mins away) takes you through some beautiful landscape, ending at an impressive dam. The route is circuitous so you'll end up near Pumsaint approaching the property from the opposite direction.

Caeiago Horse Riding and Trekking Centre is a popular and highly recommended riding centre for experienced riders in Ffarmers

Two good walks directly from cottage take you through National Forestry Commission land. One we call the short way round the forestry (45 mins), the other the long way round (2+ hours). The long way takes you into the hills where on a clear day you can see Brecon Beacons to south east and Snowdonia National Park to the north. Climb to the cairn at the top of the hills for the best views.
