La Grande Cheminee
La Grande Cheminee is a spacious rustic cottage which retains the original features of the barn. With two comfortable bedrooms (one double and one bunk bed room with trundle) and a shower room upstairs, a kitchen, utility room and downstairs toilet with an open plan living and dining room downstairs the cottage provides everything a family could wish for. A private patio with dining furniture overlooks the gardens, where you can sit and watch the children play. Located near to the indoor pool, La Grande Cheminee is equipped with books, games, colouring for the children and a well stocked welcome basket to get you off to a relaxed start. Household goods are provided (including dishwasher tablets and toilet rolls) so everything you need is to hand.
La Goderie is a converted stone longere which provides three well equipped houses. 2 units are available for rental (although the total sleeping capacity is 20+ which can be negotiated for very special occasions). All the houses are maintained to high standards with modern conveniences to make your stay as relaxing as possible. Sky TV, WiFi, a heated indoor pool, heated outdoor pool available during July and August as weather permits, 9 hole crazy golf and much more make this a wonderful proposition for families. There are also plenty of quiet areas to sit and read, enjoy the garden and share that obligatory bottle of wine with special friends and family. Located 5 minutes away from Gorron, with a wide range of amenities, La Goderie is perfectly located to explore the historical towns of Domfront, Fougeres, Lassay les Chateaux and Bagnoles de l'Orne with their castles, chateaux, gardens, spas, shops, markets and activities. Alternatively, you will find La Goderie perfect if you wish to simply relax and enjoy the tranquillity.

About Michelle Shewring
Alastair and I (Michelle) bought La Goderie in order to have a place we could spend quality time with our children and parents. We are experienced foster carers with a special interest in child development (we all, us and our parents, are fully police checked). I am a qualified health and social care lecturer and Al a director of a nationwide company and so we lead busy lives. Our children, aged from 7 to 17, enjoy a range of sports and being outside and so La Goderie is perfect for us. We usually have a grandparent or two with us, when we are at the house, helping with gardening, laundry and child’s play (which is what we all do best). I am a keen cook and bake regularly and love to share this hobby with the children, Al prefers the BBQ and we all love to eat!

Why Michelle Shewring chose Mayenne
We bought La Goderie because of the rural, but not isolated, environment and the proximity to plenty of activities, facilities and transport links. We fell in love with the houses because of the wealth of facilities for all generations – 2 swimming pools, an acre of beautifully landscaped gardens with plenty of quiet areas for sitting, sports or playing hide and seek and, I’m sorry to say, Al fell for the 3 stone build garages (perfect for your classic car when you visit Le Mans)! We are situated on a quiet country lane between two villages near the town of Gorron, Mayenne. Within a half hour drive (a car in essential) you will find the historical towns of Domfront and Fougeres and, just 20 minutes away, is the department capital, Mayenne, with plenty of shops, restaurants and more.
What makes this cottage unique
There are lots of features at La Goderie for everyone’s enjoyment. The indoor pool and Jacuzzi are welcome indulgences which, if you are holidaying with children in the winter, will fill a week or two easily. The gardens are a haven for those with green fingers (join in if you wish, there is plenty to do) and the houses are warm & welcoming with wood burning stoves and thick stone walls which keep you cool in the summer and toasty warm in winter. In the summer the outdoor pool and grounds are fantastic with a 9 hole crazy golf course, badminton, boules pitch and outdoor table tennis. The proximity to restaurants, bars, indoor swimming pool, large supermarket, toy shops, takeaways and even a British, open all day, café - only 5 minutes away in Gorron - makes La Goderie a year round place

A really lovely rural area of France, with shops and restaurants a short drive away. The village bakery is lovely and owner very friendly and welcoming. The cottage is very charming and the grounds are amazing with great amenities. We had exceptionally good weather so didn't get a chance to light the wood burner, but I would imagine the cottage would be a very warm and cosy place to stay should you wish to come in the autumn and winter months. There are some lovely places to visit such as Fougeres which has a lovely Medieval town and castle. St Malo is about an hour and a half away which has an aquarium and a submarine ride! It is well worth a visit and a has lovely town to explore with lots of great restaurants, shops and Creperies.

As qualified, registered and experienced foster carers we have the ability to provide babysitting during your holiday should you wish (Most Hampshire UK school holidays). I have a wealth of experience having owned and run a nursery and am a qualified health and social care practitioner and lecturer. My parents are both CRB checked and are usually on hand to help out. Our children have grown up around others and are friendly and sociable and so you may find your children go home with a few more friends than they arrived with! For those of you holidaying without children, La Goderie is large and solid enough for you to enjoy the peace and tranquillity even if there are other families on site at the same time.
