About the Owner

We live in Bristol and have two grown-up sons. We had many years of holidays in Cornwall when they were growing up and we can hardly believe our luck in having this house now to continue our relationship with Cornwall's cliffs and beaches.

Great space for all

  • 5 of 5

Two families had a great time at Uncle Johns, it was perfect for all our needs - a fab space in the huge kitchen which we didn't really need to leave, but for quiter moments the 2 lounges catered brilliantly for young and old! Porthtowan a great find for surf and St Ives on the train definitely recommended. Thank you very much for a great stay.

Perfect choice!

  • 5 of 5

Four generations of our family stayed at Uncle John's House in Redruth in June 2016 and it proved to be the perfect choice. A beautiful family home with a lovely garden that is very well-equipped - with loads of books and games for children. It feels like a home, not a holiday rental. The whole house has been recently renovated and the kitchen-dining area provides a wonderful space to eat, drink, socialise and play games. Highly recommended - we will be coming back! Peter, Devon

A wonderful home from home

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this huge and homely property. It was well equipped and clean and the gardens were amazing to spend time in. The beds were comfortable too. The property is situated in a quiet area and is well placed to reach all that Cornwall has to offer. Having been home for two weeks we still miss it greatly.

.Wonderful, spacious, home from home

  • 4 of 5

We were six adults and one child staying in Uncle John's house in August. We found the house to be spacious, clean and extremely well-equipped, a real home from home. We were out every day surfing at Gwithian and as you can imagine there was a lot of wet surfing gear brought back to the house every evening, the brilliant utility room was well able to deal with this, with the pulley for drying wet suits, slate floor and boiler room also for drying. Also garage for storing surf boards. Beds were very comfortable and again the bedrooms were well-equipped with hair-dryers and plenty of storage room. I cannot fault the house, we wanted for nothing. The location was very quiet but a short drive to the coast. I would certainly recommend the house to a friend/relative, as a great base for a lovely cornish holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very generous review of your stay at Uncle John's House. It's great to know that the things we thought would be useful really are, like the boot room pulley for drying wetsuits etc. i'm sorry you haven't heard from me sooner, somehow the alert that you'd written a review only just surfaced! I do hope we can welcome you all again. Within is wonderful for surfing isn't it? Very warm good wishes Em Sawday

A Privilege to Stay There

  • 5 of 5

Uncle Johns House lived up to and exceeded our expectations. A very spacious, well-maintained house with a super garden. It was well-equipped with everything a holidaymaker could want. The bedrooms were spacious with extremely comfortable beds, and there was a choice of three living rooms. We spent most time in the kitchen, a large room with everything you could need for preparing food, a good-sized dining table and a settee; it had the homely atmosphere of a farmhouse kitchen. The house was clean, warm, and the rooms light.

Redruth is well-positioned for visiting many of the attractions of Cornwall: Padstow, Lands End, Falmouth and many more. Our favourite excursion was travelling by train from Redruth to St Ives, an ideal way to visit the picturesque seaside town without having to worry about parking the car.

We cannot recommend this property highly enough, and felt it was a privilege to have been allowed to stay in such a lovely family home. There is plenty of room for eight people to stay, and if you are considering booking, don't hesitate, just do it! We will certainly be going back.

Very Nice House

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a very enjoyable stay in this house. It was clean, comfortable and had all the things a family needs (including our boys' number one requirement: broadband!). The area is residential, but quiet and pleasant. The garden is attractive and fairly spacious; too nice for football, but good for less damaging games with the kids. There is parking for three cars in the drive. Also, being not far from the A30 (about 5 mins once you've mastered the layout of Redruth), the house is also ideally situated for exploring this part of Cornwall, and its coastline and beaches. There are also three supermarkets and a leisure centre within about 10 mins drive, and a convenience store about 10 mins walk away.

Location

From the Owner

I inherited the house from my uncle and took 2 years to restore and renovate it. Cornwall is very special to me for its wild cliff walks, sense of ancient history and mythology and of course its wonderful beaches.I spent many childhood years here with my grandparents and uncle. We love being here because the house itself is so easy and comfortable to be in. We can look at the weather on the north coast and head to the south if it looks better there! We're only 12 minutes away from our favourite beach at Porthtowan and even in winter it's wonderful to walk there on the beach or cliffs. In summer we can relax in the garden away from the crowds on beaches. It's so very near to Falmouth, Truro and St Ives for distractions like shopping, dining out and visiting Art galleries.

Facilities

From the Owner

The shape of the house means we can be there alone or with a group of friends. The small sitting room is cosy for 2 or 4, the bigger one is great for a party of 8 to be in together. My special pride is the kitchen. I like to cook with others around me. Here we've had 3 people cooking together and others enjoying a drink and chat and it feels spacious enough to do that without falling over each other. It's light and spacious inside the house and now the garden is maturing I just love spending time in it gardening and picking flowers at almost any time of year. Spring for daffodils, primroses and crocuses and summer for too many to name. The kitchen leads out of the BOOTROOM which we've designed to allow damp coats, wetsuits, boots etc to be shed before you come into the house. You can shower here too if you're covered in sand or mud! Redruth is on the mainline railway, the station's only a 15 minute walk form the house.
