Outstanding cottage. Lovely facilities, helpful and friendly owners. Ideal location for relaxing or active break only 5mins away from Pen Y fan. We had an amazing time enjoyed using the spa pool & the log fire on a night time. we would love to return for another family break.

A lovely property in beautiful surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful short break in the cottage. The cottage itself was very homely. It didn't feel like a holiday let at all. It was very clean and had everything you need. (Including a delightful welcome cake!). The surrounding area is wonderful with so much to see and do within a short distance. The gym is very well equipped and steam room is nice too. But the real icing on the cake was the hot tub. Though the phrase hot tub doesn't do it justice. It is simply stunning. Very large and was 35 degrees when we used it and is a large part of the reason we intend to come back to the cottage next year. I thoroughly recommend the whole package that this cottage offers.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review and I am so glad you enjoyed your break , I know you came a long way . Yes the pool is a good size , a very social space , ideal after a Pen -y-fan walk and is just lovely day or night , especially if we have our clear skies . To view the stars from the pool is outstanding. I look forward to welcoming you again next year , this time with a chocolate and banana cake!

Amazing place, perfect with some added bonuses!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two nights at the cottage and were warmly welcomed by Claire on the first night, the location is fantastic for exploring the Brecon Beacons and the character and comfort of the cottage are exactly what you want. The outdoor jacuzzi really is more of a small swimming pool and is amazing, there is also the added bonus of an extremely well equipped gym! Thanks to Claire and Andy - you were both extremely helpful and accommodating, we will definitely be coming back again

Owner's Response: It was such a pleasure to welcome you and your lovely friends this weekend, I am only sorry it went so fast . You were lucky with the glorious weather and Autumn colours on the Beacons . The pool is huge , a great social space for all families and friends both day and night and I am so glad you used it and the gym , that has proved to be a bonus for our guests . I look forward to welcoming you again soon to the Beacons, they are just as stunning in the snow . Clare and Andy

A homely and truly relaxing place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This location is fantastic for scenery, walking and peace. The views over the field opposite at sunrise were breath taking and we enjoyed photographing the stars at night from the garden with minimal light pollution. The house had a very homely feel and was equipped with everything we needed. The hot tub (more like a small pool), steam room and gym were a real added bonus - great for relaxing muscles after a long walk or just to enjoy at any time. The owners are very welcoming and helpful and although the property is adjoined to the owners home we never felt our privacy was compromised at all. We always take our holidays in self catering accommodation and have never returned to a property - but we hope to return to this one. We were on holiday with a teen and they enjoyed it a much as us.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review . It was an absolute pleasure to meet your family and welcome you to Forestry Cottages , and thank you for sharing your amazing photos . The night sky picture you took was jaw dropping . Last nights sky was just wonderful and we are proud of our night sky accreditation. The heated pool has proven to be a real hit with all ages and you are completely private from the world when you swim. I try with my planting of tall grasses to ensure our guests are screened from view and ensure their privacy and with the angle of the houses we tend not to overlap . The use of the gym, pool and steam room is exclusive for our guests and we maintain all facilities to a high level during your stay . Now in these Autumn months the heather on the beacons is turning purple and is magical . I would love to welcome you again in the winter months , with snow on the beacons they can be breathtaking and ethereal, they are never dull.

Fantastic house with amazing hot-tub

  • 5 of 5

This is our second trip, as we were so impressed with our stay last year we booked to come back this year straightaway.

The owners are really lovely, the property is perfect and very comfortable, with everything you would need in the kitchen etc - and the hot-tub (which is so large that it is more like a small pool) with a drink in the evenings as it is getting dark is what it is all about for us!

Very well located to explore Brecon, Hay-on-Wye and Crickhowell (amongst others), we particularly liked Hay-on-Wye (a must if you are a book-lover), and walking up Hay Bluff. There are so many walks in the Beacons that we haven't space to recommend. Langorse Lake is worth a trip.

Owner's Response: It was a real pleasure to welcome you and your family once again to Forestry cottages . The pool is called a swim spa and allows plenty of room for everyone of all ages to enjoy a social space and is great after a long walk , helps aching limbs ! It has little coloured fairy lights which are gorgeous in the evening and don't intrude in night sky but enhance the stars , just lovely. I hope we can welcome you again in 2017 .

Location

From the Owner

Brecon is a friendly rural area but within the hour we can be in the city, it is incredibly peaceful and we have thoroughly enjoyed living here for many years. We are 7 minutes from Pen-y-Fan the highest peak in South Wales and minutes from the waterfall walks . After a days activity it is perfect to flop into the pool and enjoy our night sky . We have night sky accreditation and are very proud of this .

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Situated in the foot of the Brecon Beacons National Park the semi detached cottage sits nestled in surrounding forest and large green fields, making the most of nature at its finest and most beautiful.

Upon your arrival you will be treated to a freshly baked lemon drizzle cake and find that there is tea, coffee and milk ready for you to enjoy whilst you begin to unwind.

Due to the blissful surroundings it is easy to relax in the outside seating area before taking a dip in the heated pool in the garden. There is a safe lock up for bikes should they be brought on holiday and a trail that leads from the house to the bottom of Pen Y Fan through national park scenery and along a historical Roman built road.

Brecon is a bustling market town set along side the river Usk and Honddu with its splendid Georgian shop fronts and historic cathedral there is something for everyone.

For children open farms, a mountain railway or Dan yr Ogof show caves, there is so much more to enjoy and the day can be finished with an ice- cream in the Llanvaes Dairy - the best in the area!

Things to do.

Food festivals, craft markets, Farmers markets, the International Jazz festival held in the theatre at the canal basin, and surrounding venues, a cinema, leisure centre, and an army museum commemorating the Battle of Rorkes Drift at the South Wales Borderers Museum at Brecon Barracks.

Facilities

From the Owner

The cottage is a great place to base yourself and allows our guests to explore the area ,then come home to a swim or warm fire. The house is large enough to accommodate an entire family but small enough to retain its country charm with a log fire and very comfy seating area in the living room. The heated pool is fantastic for children, families and couples alike. The views and spectacular and we cannot recommend the fresh air enough!
