Les Gigards Cindre is situated in the rural Bourbonnais area of the Allier in the Auvergne. A calm & pretty area without the hustle and bustle of today’s hectic life. Our cottages are an ideal location from which to explore it is rich history, architecture, chateaux, vine yards, etc. The morning markets with local produce are a part of everyday life, as are the cafes and restaurants. Local shops are 10 mins away in Lapalisse or Varennes-sur-Allier. You can enjoy bird-watching, fishing near by, walking or cycling (there are 2 bikes for your use upon request). The night sky’s are generally very clear due to little light pollution. A comfortable retreat to relax & unwind.
Debs & I originate from Lincolnshire in England. We came to France in 2010 to visit friends, along with Bonnie, our rescue dog, after living & working in the Highlands of Scotland for a number of years. After falling in love with the easy going lifestyle and peacefulness of this beautiful region of France, we decided to relocate and become residents here.
It is an area rich in history and architecture and we are continuously discovering somewhere new learning new things.
With the help of local artisans ( & our easy going natures and a good sense of humor) we are proud to have renovated our old farmhouse & barn into 2 very comfortable self contained cottages for our guests & friends, together with a home for ourselves .We enjoy gardening and continue to develop the large garden for our guests enjoyment and relaxation. Over time the "family" has now grown to include Tigi, the cat, and "The Girls", 4 free-range chickens.
Our intention has always been to create for our guests & friends a restful & comfortable retreat from which to explore & discover this hidden part of France and simply relax and unwind.
Peter Sleaford purchased this cottage in 2010
Les Gigards, Cindre is situated in a very peaceful but friendly locality. At times it feels like stepping back in time, away from the usual hustle and bustle of today's busy life. Yet everything you need is but a few minutes away.
The traditional Bourbonnais farm house was perfect for creating 2 individual cottages, & a home of our own, in a pretty rural area where life still moves along with the natural rhythm of nature rather than the hum of today's fast way life.
Our cottages provide you with a typical French rural setting but within 35 minutes you can be sat having coffee in the spa town of Vichy or the historic town of Moulins. Although there are 2 cottages along with our own home, on the same premises, we have endeavored to create each property with its own individuality and privacy.

We had the most amazing trip to the cottage. I can't say enough about the property and the hospitality of the owners. Everything was top notch. It was clean, very beautiful and quaint. The location is beautiful and very quiet. We can't say enough about this amazing cottage and are just waiting for the opportunity to come back!!!!
Peter and Deborah were excellent hosts, on hand for advice and recommendations about the local area, whilst also giving us space to enjoy our stay. The welcome basket was very generous, filled with typical French fare from the local area, a lovely surprise!
The cottage is tastefully decorated with excellent facilities and we enjoyed many meals on the patio in the beautiful garden with views over the local countryside. The small village of Cindré does not have a boulangerie but there are plenty in neighbouring villages, a short drive away.
We had a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful holiday and it was a pleasure to meet Peter and Deborah.
A very pretty cottage set in lovely gardens in a quiet rural setting, just up the road from a pretty village. Peter and Dawn are excellent hosts for whom nothing is too much trouble. There was also a lovely welcome pack which was a great touch. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable, beautifully decorated, and with all the comforts of home. Can't wait to go back!
Noisette cottage is a delightful haven of piece and quiet in a lovely area of France.
Pete and Deborah were superb hosts during our week's stay in May this year. The cottage is very comfortable and well provisioned with a very generous welcome pack to see you through the first day and some days after.
We had our 3 year old grand- daughter with us and she loved the large safe garden, the young chicks, the inquisitive old hen and the friendly dog ,Bonnie. She "had a ball" and was so energetic she slept to 10:00 a.m. each day
We would strongly recommend Noisette cottage to everyone.

Having just come from the congested and busy city of Nice and on our way to Paris this was a nice stop for a little rest and relaxation. Very nicely laid out and as described and even better. I have looked at all the reviews and this is why I choose the location so there is not much more that needs to be said other than that I agree with all the wonderful reviews and it is well deserved. There is so much to see in the surrounding area and this is the perfect place for a home base. A quiet secluded little village and very friendly hosts.
If you want a quiet, beautiful break in rural France you can do no better than this. On the outskirts of a very small village but within easy reach of local towns this well appointed gite is a delight. Deborah and Peter are excellent hosts, discrete and yet always available for advice and generous with home grown product and the most delicious eggs from the 'girls'!
