About the property

Les Gigards Cindre is situated in the rural Bourbonnais area of the Allier in the Auvergne. A calm & pretty area without the hustle and bustle of today’s hectic life. Our cottages are an ideal location from which to explore it is rich history, architecture, chateaux, vine yards, etc. The morning markets with local produce are a part of everyday life, as are the cafes and restaurants. Local shops are 10 mins away in Lapalisse or Varennes-sur-Allier. You can enjoy bird-watching, fishing near by, walking or cycling (there are 2 bikes for your use upon request). The night sky’s are generally very clear due to little light pollution. A comfortable retreat to relax & unwind.

About Peter Sleaford

Debs & I originate from Lincolnshire in England. We came to France in 2010 to visit friends, along with Bonnie, our rescue dog, after living & working in the Highlands of Scotland for a number of years. After falling in love with the easy going lifestyle and peacefulness of this beautiful region of France, we decided to relocate and become residents here.

It is an area rich in history and architecture and we are continuously discovering somewhere new learning new things.

With the help of local artisans ( & our easy going natures and a good sense of humor) we are proud to have renovated our old farmhouse & barn into 2 very comfortable self contained cottages for our guests & friends, together with a home for ourselves .We enjoy gardening and continue to develop the large garden for our guests enjoyment and relaxation. Over time the "family" has now grown to include Tigi, the cat, and "The Girls", 4 free-range chickens.

Our intention has always been to create for our guests & friends a restful & comfortable retreat from which to explore & discover this hidden part of France and simply relax and unwind.

Peter Sleaford purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Peter Sleaford chose Cindré

Les Gigards, Cindre is situated in a very peaceful but friendly locality. At times it feels like stepping back in time, away from the usual hustle and bustle of today's busy life. Yet everything you need is but a few minutes away.

The traditional Bourbonnais farm house was perfect for creating 2 individual cottages, & a home of our own, in a pretty rural area where life still moves along with the natural rhythm of nature rather than the hum of today's fast way life.

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottages provide you with a typical French rural setting but within 35 minutes you can be sat having coffee in the spa town of Vichy or the historic town of Moulins. Although there are 2 cottages along with our own home, on the same premises, we have endeavored to create each property with its own individuality and privacy.

Delightful property

  • 5 of 5

Our kind hosts have restored this cottage beautifully. It has historic charm as well as all the amenities you could ask for. In addition we were given a lovely welcome basket, full of all sorts of goodies for breakfast the next day! Peter and Deborah are charming hosts who were a delight to visit with, and who went out of their way to help us book a dinner reservation when a number of local restaurants were closed - even driving us to and from the restaurant. This was a fabulous location from which to explore this part of France and to simply relax and enjoy ourselves!

We stayed here whilst competing at Ironman Vichy. Great location about 30 minutes from Vichy. The cottage is cosy and comfortable with good facilities and a lovely terrace.

The owners live next door and couldn't have been more helpful with recommendations, directions and local knowledge.

I'd have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Pretty cottage in lovely garden in rural France

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little cottage, very well equipped. Perfect hosts, friendly, helpful, but not intrusive. We enjoyed cooking on the grill in the garden after hiking gentle country roads during the day.

A relaxing week in attractive countryside

  • 5 of 5

The instructions for finding the property were clear and accurate. We were greeted on arrival by the owners, Peter and Deborah. They showed us around the property, explaining everything clearly and made useful suggestions for places to visit, recommended towns for shopping and for restaurants. There was a comprehensive welcome pack of food and drink and also a collection of useful leaflets and books. Throughout our stay Peter and Deborah were available if need but never imposing. We found them very good friendly hosts. The accommodation was well equipped and comfortable. We were allowed access to an extensive gardens were relaxation was easy.

This stay was close to perfection for us. One day of rain was not a deterrent and we walked each day in the beautiful and awesome Auvergne countryside. We would strongly recommend this property for people of similar interest to us: walking in peaceful surroundings in close contact with natural beauty.

Lovely place in the countyside managed by great hosts.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here with my wife to prepare for the Ironman race in Vichy. It is only a 30 k from the start (easy acces as you are already on the right side of the river and don't need to cross the ciity centre which is then very busy). We loved the cottage, garden and tranquillity. Perfect place to relax. Peter was very helpful and made us feel at home.
