The Net Loft, beachside holiday home, extensive views, private garden, parking

Updated: 22-Oct-2016
Lovely holiday home with beachside garden, parking, great for all family members and dogs welcome

The Loft has lovely sea and countryside views and is warmed in winter by log burner and night storage heaters. It has a large living area and 3 bedrooms. Tastefully refurbished, it retains many original features. One of the owners of the property is a successful artist, Katharine Dove, and her contemporary Cornish Artwork is hung throughout the property. Portmellon is a small beach community, consisting of clusters of houses on the hill, dropping down to a small, family friendly beach. The Rising Sun is a popular pub serving local beer family meals and local seafood. Mevagissey, a 14th century working Cornish fishing village is a 15 minute walk along the coast path. With its fishing boats, shops, galleries and restaurants lining the narrow cobbled streets, it provides a taste of the real Cornwall.

About the Owner

Katharine and Trevor Bailey bought Headland View (now the Net Loft) in May 2012 at auction with a plan to refurbish and re-launch it for the 2013 holiday season. It was already let for the 2012 holiday season and so they were not able to start their "hands on" refurbishment until October 2012. In January stage one of the refurbishment was complete just in time for a re-visit from the BBC programme "Homes Under The Hammer". Kate is an artist and Trevor runs Classic Flight - a business set up to keep classic aircraft in the air based in Coventry and Newquay. They live in Cheltenham and bought Headland view as their holiday home so that during low season periods they can indulge their love of the sea and of walking their two dogs - who both love their coastal walks and a daily swim.

Fantastic holiday in a fantastic place!

  • 5 of 5

The Net Loft is an awesome apartment with an absolutely magnificent view. We were so delighted when we saw its location - literally when you walk up the steps to the front door and turn around - you feel like you're on the bow of a yacht. But going inside the apartment is just delightful. The large open-plan lounge - diner - kitchen, is just a lovely space to holiday in - breakfast bar where we chatted over croissants - dining table where we sat round and played games, lounge with two cool brown leather sofas where we hung - and the chairs and table out front on a small deck where I kept escaping to (when we weren't all sat there drinking coffee) with my headphones and that view... oh that view. What I loved about the main room was how much light sweeped in through the windows along both sides (the views are almost as stunning in all directions). The whole place was tastefully and stylishly furnished, and Kate's (the owner) artwork is peppered throughout and it's pretty cool stuff (the kind of thing one might buy as an investment!). One bathroom, two toilets, separate shower - perfect if you're there en-masse and the bedrooms were lovely and clean and comfortable. Great location - tranquil, beautiful, with Mevagissey a (lovely) walk away - Cornwall is just awesome. Kate - was brilliant, friendly, helpful, and came across as genuinely caring we had a good holiday - I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. It's a gem and should never be empty!! And I mean it when I say we could not have found a better place. Book it, enjoy it, but look after it, because we'll be going back at some point!

Oh what a lovely week

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful location overlooking the sheltered cove. A well kept secret.

The accommodation was clean and well presented.

We were blessed with sunshine every day, and took full advantage of a cold, alcoholic drink sitting on the slipway, outside the Rising Sun, after a hard days sightseeing.

The view from the decking area is spectacular and we sat out late every night watching the locals coming and going on their little fishing boats and kayaks.

Mevagissey is only a 15 minute walk, and we ate out there most nights. The best restaurant was Roovrays, the food, and wine was delicious and very reasonably priced.

It was a last minute booking that was very well handled by the owner Kate, and the housekeeper Sally was very helpful.

The stairs to the property are quite steep and could prove tricky for the very young and elderly.

We would certainly go back again, and highly recommend it........

Heaven by the sea!

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my Husband and our dog stayed in The Net Loft in May.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Net Loft is very spacious and full of light and had everything we needed, even a dog crate (very much appreciated).

Loved the garden and you cant beat sitting on the bench first thing in the morning to lift your spirit for the day. Our dog enjoyed patrolling the street below, from the garden wall.

Portmellon is beautiful and tranquil with a fantastic beach, local pub next door and great walking from your doorstep.

We have previously stayed in Portmellon (further up the hill) and hope to return to TheNet Loft with our older children, as it is the perfect place for a family gathering.

Thank you to Sally the housekeeper for her help.

Excellent accomodation, amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a very enjoyable week in Cornwall, and the Net Loft is in the perfect base to make the most of it, being in easy reach to attractions like the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Bodmin & Wenford steam railway and both North and South Cornish coasts. The apartment is within easy walking distance to the lovely harbour village of Mevagissy, from where you can catch the ferry across to Fowey. Look out for the Dolphins!

The views from the apartment out over Portmellon Bay are amazing, and the terrace is the perfect spot for a Bacon Sandwich in the morning sun. The beach is just a short stroll if you fancy a paddle!

Highly recommended!

Fantastic week at The Netloft

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely family holiday at the Netloft with our dog.

The accommodation was great, we like the spacious open plan living area and it was clean and very well maintained.

We could take our dog to the beach every day and we went on some lovely walks.

We sat in the garden and watched the sea and walked to mevagissey every day to sit by the harbour and watch the fishing boats coming in.

The pub is very close, the food is good and the service friendly.

Will definitely be returning soon for a third stay.

Exceeded expectations.

Very well equipped, great location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the Netloft during the February half term. There was plenty of room for 3 adults, 4 children and 2 dogs. The loft is warm, brilliantly located, and has amazing views. You can also walk to the pub in approx 20 seconds.

Would highly recommend.

From the Owner

We loved the beach side location and the peace and quiet. It is also useful to have car parking and it was important for us to have a garden with a sea view for al fresco dining. The local pub has proved to be a great place for getting to know the locals and for dinner when we just don't want to cook. We like Mevagissey because it is a very pretty working Cornish fishing harbour and less touristy than many other local seaside villages. We very much enjoy the access to fresh fish and some very good local restaurants.

The village of Mevagissey is a 15 minute walk away. Featuring numerous pubs, shops, cafes and restaurants. It is also one of the few working harbours in this part of Cornwall. Within a 10 minute drive are Gorran Haven (another family friendly beach), Hemmick Beach (beautiful and unspoilt) and Caerhays Beach. Other places to visit within an hour are St. Mawes, Padstow (great for hiring bikes to explore the Camel Trail), Newquay, Wadebridge, Falmouth, Truro and Watergate Bay. We’re ideally situated for exploring both the North and South coasts. The Eden Project is nearby, around a 20 minute drive away. The Lost Gardens of Helligan (including the excellent Lobbs Farm Shop which sells a wide range of local, organic produce) is only a 10 minute drive away.
