Cottage in Bude, Cornwall, England - Peaceful Location 2 Minutes Walk From Beach And Town Centre
Mallard Cottage dates back to the mid 1830's. Originally it was a barn where boats were restored but then was modified into a cottage. We purchased the cottage at the beginning of 2012 but unfortunately it was unsafe and most of the original cottage had to be rebuilt to modern standards. Our cottage stands in the heart of Bude and sits on the banks of the River Neet, only 2 minutes walk to the beach and canal. It has its own access road to the rear with parking for 2/3 vehicles and a balcony which overlooks the river and the castle. Large ground floor patio area with palm tree.

Our family of five plus one dog have just stayed at this cottage and one word sums it up " Exellent ".From the time we spoke to the owner Mark several months before, we were sure we de made the right choice of cottage.On arrival after a nightmare 12 hour car journey within 10 minutes the journey was forgotten after we saw this gem of a cottage,clean,beautiful kitchen and everywere finished to a very high standard.The cottage was close to all amenities,shops,restaurants and the beach all within easy walking distance.Our 3 children had there first surfing experience after we enroled them into the "big blue surf school".The teachers at this surf school were excellent,fun and managed to get the children surfing over the two days they attended.Most shops,cafes and pubs were dog friendly.We ate out at the Brendon Arms and were able to let our dog sit by the table in the bar.We also used the cottage bbq on a couple of nights.Summing up our holiday I would say the description of the property is excellent,i would also recommend it to friends.Mark the owner was also very helpful with information and directions.

Stayed at Mallard cottage as a family during August.
This place is 1st rate. In a central location near to both the beach and centre of Bude. The cottage itself has everything you need and is finished to an excellent standard. The owner Mark is extremely friendly and the extra little touches on arrival were very much appreciated.
Would definitely book here again.
CHARACTER AND COMFORT
We have stayed here twice in the last month with a dog. Position is fantastic you do not need to have a car once you have arrived. Beach, shops and restaurants within easy walking and you can hear the sea! This cottage is spacious and has been imaginately designed to please with modern comforts like the fantastic hot powerful showers. Lovely balcony to watch the world go by. Good parking space with enclosed yard for dogs/children. Friendly helpful lady who manages the property next door. Will use again.
Beautifully restored cottage
We were delighted with this cottage.The renovation by owner Mark was second to none,as he and his wife hope to retire to it he obviously wanted the best and the best it is!
Location is perfect to enjoy all that Bude has to offer,close to the wonderful beach and the very diverse shops.
We had some very good meals indeed; all in walking distance,namely at The Olive Tree,The Falcon Hotel and Mirchi (Indian) All gave outstanding service and very good food.
One small fault that I,m afraid Mark can do nothing about is that the cottage is situated across the river to a nightclub....we had some noise between 1 and 2.30 in the morning for a couple of nights,but once the windows were closed there was very little to hear!
All in all a perfect cottage for a family holiday.
Activity and Interests
Sandy beaches of Summerleaze and Crooklets within 2 minutes walk. Widemouth Bay is 2 miles and there are lots of secluded coves within a short drive to explore.
Newquay is 25 miles away, Exeter is 1 hour. Once in Bude, if you plan to stay in Bude only no car would be required. Bodmin Parkway is nearest railway station (18 miles).
The cottage is in the heart of Bude, Widemouth is a 3 minutes drive from the cottage, Newquay 45 minutes drive, Padstow 30 minutes drive.
There are five pubs within 2 minutes walk of the cottage offering meals, plus on the side of the canal there are some shops and another restaurant. A corner shop within yards and 2 supermarkets both under 1/2 mile. The town is a 2 minutes walk away. The Tourist information centre is across the road with additional pay and display parking. Surfing, horse riding and fishing lessons are available with local companies.

Changeover day is Saturday. The cottage is available after 3pm on changeover day and guests are asked to vacate by 10:30am on day of departure to ensure that the cottage can be thoroughly cleaned.
