About the Owner

We live and work in Shrewsbury but try to get over to Harlech as often as possible, not difficult as it is only 2 hours drive away door to door. We love the open-air life that this part of Wales has to offer and enjoy discovering new walks with our friends and our collie dog, Tess.

We are happy to discuss any aspect of your stay either over the phone or via email; we want you to enjoy Bron Castell as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

' I have stayed at several places throughout the region and without doubt this is one of the most charming...I will definitely be returning'

'The great thing about Bron Castell is the location. It's only a short walk to the beach and the town and we really loved all the more challenging walks that were right from the doorstep. Thank you for all the guide books and suggestions that you left for us - this is a really magical part of the country.

'Bron Castell is lovely- a real home from home. And what fantastic views!'

Pefect for coming in from the cold!

Bron Castell is a lovely house that enabled us to have some much needed relaxation over the festive period. Even storm Frank did little to penetrate the comfort of staying there, as we were snug inside whilst the gales howled and the rain lashed down on Harlech. The house had a great, well-equipped family kitchen, warmed by the oil-fired Rayburn used for cooking (also heating the house and hot water). The open fire in the sittingroom and abundance of sofa space certainly aided winding down in the evenings and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Harlech was great - even in the week after Christmas/over NY we found places open and things to do in the area. Wild walks through the dunes to the beach being just one of the activites to enjoy and our son was particularly keen on the steam train journey we took from Porthmadog. There was so much we didn't manage to do in the area that we hope to return one day...

We visited Bron Castell in March for a long weekend, the house is lovely, large kitchen with everything you need, beautiful views of the sea out the front, lots of space. Harlech is lovely, the beach is very clean and beautiful. We had a fantastic weekend.

From the Owner

We started coming to this part of Wales when our children were little and now they have almost flown the nest we are determined to continue this tradition! We bought Bron Castell early in 2012 and have completely refurbished it, making it into a comfortable and welcoming home. We enjoy it throughout the seasons, never growing tired of the changing views and the wonderful walks, many right from our front door. I also thoroughly recommend the shop at the top of our road which bakes the most amazing bread every day from March to October and has a great range of fantastic home-made ice-cream!

Activity and Interests

Car: not necessary

Beautiful Harlech beach is about 10 minutes walk from the property across the golf course and onto the dunes. Morfa Harlech is a site of special interest, a haven for bird watchers and naturalists, the sandy beach itself stretching for 4 miles. The newly opened National Coastal Path is an absolute delight and nearby beaches, resorts and estuaries are easily accessible.

Harlech is approximately two hours drive from Manchester, three from Birmingham. It also has the advantage of being on a mainline railway, making it possible to enjoy your holiday without using the car at all.

Bron Castell is situated within the small town of Harlech, within the Snowdonia National Park. There are a number of villages and towns nearby. For example, Porthmadog- 9 miles; Portmeirion-6 miles; Barmouth- 9 miles.

Further Details:

Harlech is a small town built around its medieval castle, with a range of shops, pubs and restaurants. There is a bank and post office on the High Street and a leisure centre with swimming pool and climbing wall. The local college also has a small cinema and in the summer there are open-air performances at the castle. There is a network of walks in the area, many from our doorstep, leading to the glorious countryside. The area is rich in Bronze Age remains, and the stunning Bryn Cader Fanwr burial mound is well worth a visit. Access to Snowdon is less than an hour's drive away and if the walk up is too much, then you can always take the mountain railway and still enjoy the fantastic views. The quiet lanes surrounding the property also lend themselves to cycle rides- though pick your route with care as some of the roads are steep!

From the Owner

The town itself is peaceful and quiet but we do appreciate the amenities it has to offer- we have had some good nights out! The castle hosts some wonderful open-air performances in the summer, and the college- only 10 minutes away- offers occasional film shows and other forms of entertainment. I think what we love most about coming to Bron Castell is that, within minutes of arriving, we feel completely relaxed. There's plenty to do both in Harlech itself and the vicinity, but there's little to beat watching the sunset over the sea at the end of the day!
