About Helen Ball

Hi, my name is Helen. I enjoyed a second home in the Lake District while living in Yorkshire, but after 9 years of sharing the two I decided to make the Lake District my permanent home. I hope you will enjoy it up here too.

Helen Ball purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Helen Ball chose Borrowdale

These delightful cottages in Borrowdale are set in the most stunning location. I have updated them and made them comfortable and welcoming to allow my guests a homely base from which they can enjoy and participate in the many varied activities the Keswick area offers.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottages are situated in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley giving direct access to the fells and lake shore. Within peaceful quiet grounds yet only 6 miles from town centre it is easy to enjoy the immediate area or explore the rest of the northern lake district.

Beautiful cottage, stunning views, warm welcome

  • 5 of 5

A warm, comfortable cottage in a beautiful and quiet location, away from everything and yet only 15 minutes from Keswick when you need to visit to buy food etc. Spectacular views of the lake and mountains from the sitting room and the bedrooms. The house was very clean and well-equipped with everything we needed and we appreciated many small touches which made for a both professional and warm welcome from the owner. This great customer service started right from the outset of our booking and throughout our stay.

The house has a very useful porch/boot room which is ideal for muddy walking boots and a wet dog on return from any walks.

The house opens out on to footpaths for walking the local area, including up to CatBells and down to the lake which means that you don't have to take the car out. In addition to lots of walking, we also enjoyed kayaking at PlatyPlus and Derwent Water Marina (at the south and north of the lake respectively), the pencil museum, the Puzzling Place (Keswick), Stonethwaite, Wast Water, Ullswater and Thirlmere.

We all were unanimous in agreeing we would love to go back very soon.

Very comfortable, excellent facilities, great view

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Coach House for a long weekend and really loved the cottage. The views are really lovely, even in the rainy depths of February, and are the high light of the cottage. It is very well fitted out, I would guess recently redecorated, clean and very comfortable. The living room has plenty of room for four adults to lounge in comfort and we cooked every day so made good use of the kitchen and dining area. We didn't need to move the car once during our stay - long and short walks in the immediate area kept us occupied and the bus service meant we could go to Keswick without having to walk both ways. Dog friendly as well - what more could you ask.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jane, so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Many of my guests make use of the local footpaths to begin walks, so they don't have to go out in the car every day. It's also easy to get to the Derwent Ferry or the Honister Rambler bus to get to a starting point - lots of choices!

Stunning cottage, stunning views, helpful owner!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cottage for my sister & brother in laws 50th birthdays and couldn't have found a nicer place. The owner Helen was so helpful and informative. The cottage was beautiful with absolutely everything we needed. The views from the lounge and master bedroom where amazing. Lots of lovely walks right from the front door. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this cottage.

Excellent loaction and accomodation

  • 5 of 5

We had a long weekend at The Coach House and I would recommend this as an ideal bolt hole in the lakes. We have stayed in a few places around Keswick over the years but this location and modern interior accommodation was one of the best with fantastic views. We will be booking again.

Fabulous location with beautiful scenery.

  • 4 of 5

The Coach House is in a great location with many walks right from the doorstep and lovely views down to Derwent Water and up to Catbells with red squirrels in the garden.

The cottage is warm and well equipped with a powerful hot shower.

The only drawback was not having a secure garden to allow the dogs in but we were pleased that we couldn't hear the people in adjoining cottage.

Lovely cottage in a delightful location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very well equipped with everything we could want, very comfortable and clean. It was so tranquil, being on a private road and the fells accessible just behind the house. Helen was happy to answer questions and help with recommendations for local eating places. We had a delightful week and didn't need to use the car much.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. Yes one of the advantages of the location is that you can walk onto the fells or down to the lake from the door. I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to have you back you again one day.
