About the Owner

The Apartment Wirksworth and George House were renovated by Val and Lester. The main property dates back to Georgian times and was originally built as a coaching inn. The apartment and garden were a special aspect of the refurbishment bringing contemporary design to this historic site. For four years the apartment was home to Val and Lester during the renovation of the main house and the comfort and pleasure derived from this experience made them realise that others too, may enjoy this sanctuary in a beautiful Derbyshire landscape. Val, an artist and Lester a musician have lived in Wirksworth for twelve years and engage with the many creative opportunities which are on offer within the community, and the annual Festival in September brings thousands of visitors to the town.

Every year we stay here.

Everything written in the reviews we heartily endorse. This place is fabulous. We have stayed here for three years in a row. We book pretty much as we leave so we don't miss out. We travel around the UK for 10 weeks a year and this is the best apartment we have found.

Note to self: book for 2016

Great find. A gem of an apartment.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this very trendy apartment in Wirksworth. Inside had everything we could ever need including lovely throws and cushions. The skylights in each room were great too. Two separate graveled seating areas in the garden with oodles of wooden furniture gave us a lovely chance to enjoy dining Al fresco!

A perfect base for the Peak District, just a few minutes from the main A6 that takes you from Matlock Bath through Matlock to Bakewell and Buxton. Buxton is particularly nice.

If you like cycling you'll love the Monsal Trail. Best to start at Bakewell end to get the slight inclines over at the start. Stop off at the Hassop Station Cafe on the cycle back for gorgeous gourmet burgers and salads. If you're cycling mad, try the High Peak Trail which starts not far from the apartment. Great pub at Hurdlow.

A perfect welcome from Val & Lester in their superb apartment. Well done!

Lovely place in a central, quiet location

  • 5 of 5

I came to stay here with my daughter for a few days. I know Wirksworth well - it's a great little place with a lot of cultural events going on. This is a lovely apartment - very tastefully and thoughtfully furnished. It's flooded with light thanks to several skylights. In the mornings we enjoyed opening the French windows and drinking our coffee in the sun with the birds chirping in the background. We are really looking forward to coming again.
