Why Allison Pearson chose Suffolk

We fell in love with Southwold on a visit to the area when my son was only a few weeks old. The beach is stunning with beautiful yellow sand backed up by the truly unique town of Southwold. The high street has a range of small boutique shops plus coffee bars, pubs and restaurants. There really is something for everyone here. There is ample parking, lots of areas for walks and a harbour complete with working fishing boats bringing in fresh fish daily.

The property is just five minutes drive from the fabulous beach. We provide information on local attractions with leaflets picked from the local tourist information centres and from former guests.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is a character cottage built in 1837 with many original features from character beamed ceilings to an Inglenook fireplace. To compliment this there is a brand new shaker kitchen and brand new old fashioned bathroom suite.

The cottage is only 5 minutes walk from The Angel Inn pub and restaurant and The Village Store.

A children's playground is only 2 minutes walk.

“A great little cottage in a lovely area”

We very much enjoyed our stay in The Old Courtyard. On arrival we found the cottage beautifully clean. It is very well appointed, with a high quality kitchen, good furniture, pleasant bedrooms, and a chest of childrens' toys. We were a party of four adults and three young children, but the cottage coped well with this number. The cottage is situated on a fairly quiet road. The beaches at Southwold and Walberswick are both just a few minutes' drive away, and the rural hinterland is very attractive. We consider the price we paid represented good value. In summary, The Old Courtyard is a delightful small cottage in a good situation, and one day we hope to return there for another holiday.

lots to like but with a few gripes

Sweet cottage in nice location convenient for Southwold etc.. But gas hob difficult to light (and keep lit) nowhere to hang anything to dry, mouldy blind in toilet, and only one useable saucepan - others have non stick all peeling off /no handle etc. A few minor improvements such as nest of small tables (recommended by many in the guest book) could make it even better.

Charming and comfortable cottage

This was a lovely cottage, cosy, beautifully decorated, clean, well equipped (had wi-if) and oozed character and charm. It has all the comforts of home, including toys for the children The village had all the amenities we needed and there were nice pubs nearby serving lovely food. The location was was great for day trips out. Southwold is minutes away and there is something for everyone nearby. The mere at Thorpness is lovely for all the family. The leaflet rack was well stocked with lots of information and places to visit. We will definitely be coming back again.

Quaint cottage lacks some basic amenities

Television in a poor position, no coffee table to put your drink on when relaxing, car parking was not good, Many ants, Sleeping accomodation was good, cottage was warm and quiet at night.

Overall not a cottage I would recomend

Beautiful Character Cottage in the Country

We booked the cottage for a mid-week getaway and upon arriving we were very pleased by the intimate, cosy feel that this cottage had to offer.

It is well situated close to Southwold with some delightful restaurants located within walking distance. The cottage was well equipped for our needs and provided comfortable seating and sleeping arrangements, a lovely warm little cottage to come back to after an exhausting day site seeing! Would recommend.

Good points.

Nice bathroom and recently painted downstairs bedroom.

Bad point.

Greeted by a strong smell of dampness, dirty and chipped crockery,DVD player not working,gas fire not working an overall feeling of tiredness throughout.

We aim to maintain this characterful, period property to the highest possible standard and this is achieved by regular maintenance to the property. This is reflected in a newly refurbished downstairs bedroom, freshly decorated rear bedroom, new blinds for the kitchen as well as new pillows for the main living room. I am somewhat surprised that you mention that the fire was not working as this was recently tested by one of our engineers as part of our yearly safety check. While I will of course investigate your comments further, it would have been nice to have been contacted during your stay where we of course would have endeavoured to assist in whatever trouble you may have been having. Thank you for your visit to The Old Courtyard, and we hope we can welcome you back to delightful Southwold at some point in the not too distant future. Kind regards Allison

Traditional Pink Suffolk Cottage

Pretty little cosy cottage. Stayed in Wangford as family live in the village, lovely place. Close to coast with lovely walks and countryside. Beams, wooden floors, open plan. Enough space for 4 adults. No garden but this didn't affect us in anyway. Clean, Kitchen well stocked with cutlery, crockery etc. Really felt at home and enjoyed our long weekend here and look forward to staying again.

Worth a Visit, Dunwich to visit the remains of the former capital of East Anglia, go Crabbing at Walberswick or Thorpness. If you enjoy bird watching, the award winning bird reserve at Minsmere is close by. On the coast,Southwold and Aldeburgh are nearby, with many interesting shops, pubs and restaurants. Aldeburgh and Southwold have a cinema. Superb golf courses at Woodbridge, Aldeburgh and Thorpeness. Excellent beaches at Southwold, Walberswick Covehithe and Aldeburgh. There are excellent walking areas between the cottage and the coast and around Dunwich Heath, Westleton Heath, and the marshes and coast between Southwold and Dunwich.

There is a pub within the village itself and many others within a short drive of the cottage.
