About the Owner

We are Sonia and John and we moved to France in 2011. After many years of a hectic lifestyle in England, John running a construction business, Sonia working in education and the NHS and raising a family, we had dreamed of our ‘escape’ to France, so then with the children grown up it was time to realise our dream. Although we’re still working hard, the pace of life is slower and the work schedule not quite so frenetic and we enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle. We love the outdoor life and are keen cyclists, skiers and walkers and have also enjoyed scuba diving in the past and hope to again, at some point. We, together with our lovable spaniel, Sam look forward to sharing our lovely house with you should you choose to come and stay.

Sonia and John - thanks for a fantastic stay.

Your lovely home, warm welcome and the wonderful food made our short break a real treat. And that's even before we ventured out to visit the surrounding area! We are looking forward to visiting again.

From the Owner

Having looked at several areas in France we decided that the Languedoc was definitely the best with its wonderful climate, (its boast is 300 days sunshine a year) rolling hills, beautiful beaches, picturesque villages and great road, rail and air links. Having looked at more than 50 houses we knew when we walked into what is now La Bergerie de Laval that this was the place for us, you could say it was instant love! We had wanted to live in a village with a real community and have found that Tourbes is a vibrant and lively place, organising many events throughout the year including the annual fete in August and the bull run in September. Also, being only a couple of minutes drive from Pezenas we can enjoy all the facilities and events that this historic town has to offer.

Activity and Interests

There are wonderful long sandy Mediterranean beaches just 20 minutes drive time away - our favourites are Serignan and Portiragne, which are unspoilt and backed by sand dunes. The resort of Cap d'Agde with a number of beaches is about 30 minutes drive away, it also has a naturist beach, as does Serignan.

Beziers/Cap D'Agde Airport - 27 km (approx. 25 minutes). Montpellier Airport - 68 km (approx. 45 minutes). Carcassone Airport - 117 km (approx. 65 minutes).

Pezenas - 3 minutes, Beziers - 15 minutes, Clermont Herault - 15 minutes, Sete - 25 minutes, Montpellier - 40 minutes, Carcassonne - 60 minutes, Nimes - 60 minutes. Mediterranean beaches - 20 minutes. Canal du Midi - 15 minutes.

From the Owner

La Bergerie de Laval really does have the best of both worlds - it enjoys a quiet, peaceful location on a vineyard road on the edge of a village yet is only a couple of minutes drive from Pezenas, 20 minutes from the excellent rated Mediterranean beaches of Serignan and Portiragne, or you can cycle from our door to the foothills of the mountains in 10 minutes. It's a short stroll into the village where you can enjoy a drink at the bar sitting on the terrace or there is an excellent restaurant 'La Maison'. Large and private gardens surround the house and the atmosphere once you walk through the garden gate onto our terrace with pool, hot tub and bar is one of complete relaxation, 'a little piece of heaven', as it has been described by a guest.

  • Notes on accommodation: As keen cyclists we are able to offer help and advice with route planning and supply maps as well as having workshop facilities, should you need them and secure storage for bikes. Outside: The mature gardens are large and have a number of different areas- shady areas where you can sit and read in a deckchair, lawned areas with a variety of fruit trees, (cherry, apple, apricot, greengage and several olive trees), a hammock slung between two large cedar trees and of course our lovely pool terrace area. Our pool (8m x 4m) is landscaped with stone beds planted with colourful shrubs and features a gently cascading waterfall and has roman steps at one end. There are a number of sun-loungers, a swing seat, chairs and a table. The large hot-tub is situated on a deck ajoining the pool. The bar terrace with its comfy sofas enjoys shade thanks to an overhead sail. The pool terrace area looks down the garden where there is a table tennis table.
