About the property

House in Rochechouart, Limousin, France - Peaceful Rural Location Just 15 Minutes From The Dordogne

The property consists of a Main House, with large kitchen, large open lounge, games room, utility room, 2 bathrooms, 2 double bedrooms, one single bedroom, one bedroom with space for 3 and a larger bedroom with space for 9 people. Maison Tom is a self contained house that has a large double bedroom, a bedroom with 3 singles, a kitchen and a large lounge/chill out area. Maison Jack has 3 double bedrooms and a lounge area. Maison Benjamin has a large open barn area that has a table tennis table and chill out area. There is also a large pizza oven house. The property has a lovely pool and sunbathing area and a large terrace (partially covered) for alfresco dining and lounging about. The garden area is spacious, leading onto our field that is often used by local horses/donkeys. Gay, who is English lives nearby and looks after the property. She is able to deal with any issues.

About Richard Skerritt

Myself and my wife Heidi live in Sussex and with my five kids (shared with ex) and our mad dog. I bought the French property about 10 years ago and have spent a lot of very enjoyable time and far too much money renovating the various properties over this period of time. We have had a many as 9 builders staying at the properties during the renovations, but all of the work is now complete and we have the property of our dreams. Work and family commitments mean that we can't spend as much time as we would like in the French house, so having found Gay, an English ex-pat living nearby and being happy to manage the properties, we have decided to let the properties when we are not there.

Why Richard Skerritt chose Rochechouart area

We were looking for a retreat and escape from the pressures of English life, so wanted a rural, peaceful place. I felt that the Dordogne, although beautiful, was perhaps too full of English, so decided on the Limousin area, the French Lake District, which is less Anglified, but only 15 minutes from the Dordogne.

We looked as many properties that met our requirements for space, idyllic setting, pool etc, but when we found our place, we immediately knew it was the one. Probably under estimated the amount of work involved, but very happy we have done it.

What makes this farmhouse unique

With the new bypass being finished in 2013, the property is only about a 20 minute drive from Limoges Airport, which is well served by Ryanair and Flybe who fly from a number of UK airports. There are also regular flights to Paris and other French cities such as Nice.

We have driven from our property to Barcelona (long drive), Biarritz and even Nice.

The property is in a peaceful and relaxed setting, but has the convenience of a village, town and city within easy driving distance.

We are within easy reach of many lakes, some with lakeside bars and restaurants, and a range of sailing activities.

The nearby Vienne river offers canoeing and kayaking, which is something that everybody should try.

We have had a fantastic family holiday in your lovely French "hamlet". The kids were occupied the whole time with the swimming pool, trampoline and games on the lawn. Think they only watched TV twice.... Danny and Sam, Brentwood.



The French have got relaxing totally sussed out. Rochechouart is gorgeous and the lakes are delightful. Felt like a home from home the moment we arrived. Not sure why you don't live there full time!! Susie, Brighton.

Outside: There is a stone barbecue, a separate gas barbecue, large trampoline, private pool and sun bathing area, large outside table under a pergola, masses of lawn area, petanque/boules area, large gravelled parking area at front, orchard with apples, plums, walnuts, blackberries etc. We have volleyball nets, two adult bicycles and a range of games/sports equipment. Utility Room: The utility room has a washing machine, tumble drier and fridge/freezer as well as storage space. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed Linen and a limited number of towels are provided for the bathrooms. Towels for the pool are not provided. Other: The self contained wood fired pizza/bread oven is ideal for pizza nights. The games room has table football, dartboard and Wii games console.

Location

Travel:

The property is just 20 minutes from Limoges airport - regular flights from Stansted (Ryanair), Southampton (Flybe), Nottingham (Ryanair) and Liverpool (Ryanair). Also regular flights to Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Nice.

Distances:

Rochechouart, a delightful, very French village is a 5/10 minute drive (15 mins by bike) and has a range of bakeries, bars and restaurants. St Junien is a 10min drive and has the large hypermarkets and many restaurants and takeaways. Limoges is a lively town offering great shopping, with many boutiques and department stores, as well as restaurants, bars and cafes. There are several beautiful lakes within easy driving distance and Gay can advise on local attractions and activities.

Further Details:

Gay, who manages the property for us is able to guide you to all of the local tourist attractions and supermarkets etc. She is also able to provide you with provisions (food, wine, beer etc) if required (again at extra charge and agreed direct with him).

The area is known as the French Lake District and the local lakes are beautiful. Carp fishing is popular in the area (local licence required) and Gay can guide you where is best.

We have a number of favourite restaurants - Meteorite in Rochechouart provides simple French food and is ideal for large groups. Roc du Beouf is more suited to romantic/fine dining. Again we have full details on local restaurants and takeaways - there is even a McDonalds, although the local dining is so good, you may not make the drive through.

25% non refundable deposit is required and a security deposit of £250 to secure the booking. Please note the security deposit will returned to you once you have departed and the houses checked for breakages. Final balance of the holiday is due 8 weeks prior to arrival.
