Cottage in Skelwith Bridge, Nr. Ambleside, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Cosy Tranquil Romantic Cottage For Two With Stunning Views Over Elterwater And The Langdale Pikes

Ash Cottage is a tranquil and romantic detached cottage, located in sleepy hamlet of Skelwith, at the opening to the magnificent Langdale Valley, in the heart of the Lake District. Situated within our own 20 acres ensures the privacy of your holiday. A quiet setting, high on the fell side over-looking the Elterwater Valley, wonderful sunsets over the Langdale Pikes and fascinating climatic conditions are visible from the elevated position of the cottage sitting room and patio. Recent refurbishment gives this traditional well equipped Cumbrian Cottage a contemporary look. All on one level with secluded garden, BBQ and love seat. Centrally located in the heart of the Lake District National Park, yet away from the crowds, you are within easy reach of all the attractions. Here you will find some of the most majestic mountain scenery in Britain and certainly some of the finest walking. Well stocked village shop in Chapel Stile. Excellent pubs and restaurants nearby including the "Drunken Duck" & Chesters Cafe, a visitors favourite. SHORT BREAKS from £255 for three nights out of season.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Absolutely perfect, perfect cottage, perfect surroundings. It has been the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. Would love to come back again."

"A lovely homely cottage in a beautiful location. Sitting at the table watching the birds and occasional visit of a red squirrel was a joy."

"We found this cottage ideal for our base to visit different places in the Lakes. The views alone are just fantastic and we have had a brilliant time. Just wish we had longer here. We will be back for sure!"

I have really enjoyed my week here. A great base for walking, but just wonderful setting and yet close to Ambleside. Night skies fantastic for my telescope and wild life in the garden a joy to watch. Never before seen red squirrel so close! But the views are to die for ! I hope to be back again"

"Beautiful cottage in an idyllic location. Stunning views and very peaceful. Just what we needed. Thank you so much, hopefully see you again next year."

Ash Cottage is in a beautiful location, conveniently situated between Ambleside and Coniston but secluded with stunning views plus a private garden. It's well-equipped and very comfortable. Plenty of visitor information and walks leaflets are provided. There are many good pubs and restaurants within ten minutes' drive. We had an extremely enjoyable stay here and would recommend to family and friends.

A little slice of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Our recent holiday was our 10th stay at Ash Cottage. We first came here in June 2008 and have returned every year since, visiting twice in both 2011 and 2015.

Why do we keep coming back? How long have you got?! The location is perfect, conveniently close to Ambleside and Windermere for shopping and eateries yet secluded enough to escape the masses and enjoy the beauty, peace and tranquility of the Lake District.

Ash Cottage is perfect for two people. When we first discovered it online there seemed to be very few cottages that catered for couples. That might have changed now but we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else so we haven't looked. It's cosy and comfortable with a blend of character features coupled with modern luxury. It has everything you need.

The views are simply stunning with a panoramic running from Wetherlam through Crinkle Crags to the Langdale Pikes. That's just from the cottage. From the grounds at Stephen How the view continues round to the giant summits of Fairfield and Helvellyn, amongst others. We come to the Lakes for the walking and there are some fabulous walks to be done that are only a short drive away, or no drive at all.

The wildlife is also fantastic. The birds visiting the feeders outside the cottage are a wonderful time waster. Other visitors to the feeder include red squirrels. On our most recent visit we also saw a tawny owl fly right across our path as we walked up the drive, a resident red deer, who is actually white and .... for the first time ever .... a stoat!

Andy and Judy live close enough to be on hand if you need anything or have any queries, but the location of the cottage and its private garden means that you never feel that you are invading their space, or they yours. You couldn't meet a nicer couple and we've been coming here so long now that they have become good friends of ours.

If you want peace and quiet, views to die for and a cosy cottage to call home for your holiday, then look no further. We have no hesitation in recommending Ash Cottage to anyone, just not for the weeks when we want it!
