Contemporary Mezzanine Apartment With Beach And Sea Views, Private Pool, Parking

Updated: 17-Aug-2016
Apartment in Saint Cyprien, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Thirty Metre Walk Through Garden To Huge Sandy Beach With Lifeguards And Water Sports

This contemporary styled apartment has balcony views of the sea, beach, Pyrenees Mountains and is ideal for families and couples wanting all year round sunshine. The mezzanine layout features accommodation on two levels with high ceilings in the lounge and dining areas. An enclosed private swimming pool and a private gated car park. The beach is literally a stones throw away and accessed through the communal gardens with no roads to cross. An Aqualand Water Park (1 km), tennis (200m), water sports (100m), horse riding (3km) and international golf course (4km) make this an ideal location for the whole family. The apartment is located between a long sandy beach on one side and a salt water lagoon and marina on the other. From the apartment there are stunning views of the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees. If that is not enough, the Font Romeu ski resort is only 100km away. In December, you can bask in 20oc weather on the beach one day and be on the ski slopes the next.

Hi Adrian,

We had a great stay, the apartment is in a great location and with the weather it was absolutely fantastic.

Thanks very much

Hi Adrian,

We had a great holiday which was down in a large part to your apartment. Given that we had a three year old with us, the location next to that wonderful beach was a big plus. It was spotless.

The apartment itself was also spotless.I have never stayed anywhere which was so pristine. And the beach equipment, especially the beach chairs, was much appreciated.

I certainly would recommend St Cyprian and specifically your property to anyone looking for a relaxing, comfortable holiday.

Kind regards,

Hi Adrian

We had a lovely time in St. Cyprien , particularly restful. The proximity of the apartment to the beach, and its wonderful view made it an ideal place for a relaxing week. We did go in to the main town and also to Elne but apart from that, not much else.

Spectacular Location

  • 4 of 5

This was ideal for a lazy holiday. The apartment is comfortable and very well equipped (the beach chairs & parasol were very much appreciated) and is just a couple of minutes from an unspoilt, uncommercial beach. It was clean and the local cleaner and the owner in the UK were easily contactable and very helpful. The apartment doesn't get the sun during the day and this proved to be ideal in the height of summer as it remained cool (much appreciated for sleeping at night). The area has lots of apartments but there is just one small shop (fresh bread & croissants and roast chickens in the morning) and a take away pizza place nearby. The beach bar is also a restaurant in the evenings. We had a car (pretty much a necessity) and shopped in St Cyprien village at Shoppy and at Casino on the road to Elne. We chose to self cater most evenings but did take the tourist train in to the main part of St Cyprien one evening (easier than trying to park the car). We really enjoyed our very relaxing week here and found it just the right size for 2 single people as it has 2 separate sleeping areas. It isn't suitable for people with mobility issues as it is on the 3rd floor of the block and the staircase to the mezzanine is narrow and a little steep. Allocated parking was also a huge benefit in August. Places worth visiting - Elne, Collioure, Banyuls (terre des templiers wine cellars & aquarium), Port Vendres fish restaurants and Aqua Vista boat trip. Downside of August is that everywhere is extremely busy and it was often noisy late in to the night.

Great Holiday

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is all about its LOCATION, perfect for families and beach lovers, but within easy reach of all amenities.

Small and compact but a fantastic view from the balcony overlooking the beach. Comfortable and clean with everything you need for a great holiday.

Our 8yr old son slept on the double sofa bed in the mezzanine lounge upstairs and enjoyed having his own 'den' as he called it.

Through the gardens to the beach and a few minutes walk to the local shop and restaurant/bar.

A perfect evening stroll took us around the marina to further shops and restaurant/bars at the Commercial Centre.

Lots of cycle paths which makes it ideal to get around by bike.

A trip on the little train which stops regularly outside the apartment took us to the Port where a visit to the Tourist Information is recommended as we got lots of info about how to get around, things going on and discount tickets for events and attractions.

Fantastic restaurants at the port - would recommend La Table du Sud - excellent food and service.

We received good communication from the owner and a speedy refund of our security deposit on our departure.

As owners of property in France and frequent travellers, we had a fantastic holiday and would recommend the apartment to anyone.

The perfect beach holiday

  • 4 of 5

A comfortable apartment in a quiet, pleasant area. Great for young families with a choice of a pristine 'Blue Flag' beach a few minutes walk away, a splash pool or a regular pool on-site. Spectacular views of the Pyrenees from the bedroom side and the beach from the cool, shaded balcony. The apartment was spotless and well equipped. Local public transport made it easy to get into St Cyprian where there is a good selection of fish restaurants by the port. The small mini-market five minutes walk away did a roaring morning trade in freshly baked baguettes and croisants, all baked on-site.

Pro's & Cons

  • 3 of 5

Good; wonderful beach with access through the communal gardens and the apartment is spotlessly clean. There are ample utensils and cooking facilities and the white goods looked new. Booking was straightforward and our damage deposit was returned to our bank very promptly.

Not good; The apartment is a good 20 minute walk away from the main eateries, shops etc. We are not slow walkers and it's a pleasant walk along the coast and through the boatyard but after a few nights it became a bit of a drag. The apartment is very small, the main bedroom tiiny for two with the bed pushed against the wall. The mezzanine with the bed settee is up a VERY steep flight of wooden steps and with a wooden beam directly overhead at the top so watch out if you're tall. The apartment is accessed via many steps, not for those easily puffed! The balcony does NOT get sun at any time, nice if it's exceptionally hot but not for sun worshippers. I seem to recall that there was also mention of two balconies but one is just the communal entrance passage shared with the other apartments on that floor.

I did contact the owner on our return as we had concerns over the electric wiring set up and the fact that there were no smoke/fire alarms visible either within or external to the apartment. Also seemingly no means of escape in the case of fire other than the main door.

It would be useful to have some local info in the flat. Nearest provision shop, phone no's for taxis and the location of water taxi and road train stops There may also be a shortcut into town that we didn't come across. This kind of information is really helpful especially if you only have a week to explore.

Owner's Response: This person’s review is in such contrast to those from any other guest that I wondered if they stayed in the same apartment. They sent a similar rambling review to me on their return from the apartment and I chose not to reply to as almost all the points they raised indicated that they completely misunderstand the way that people live in other countries, and the Mediterranean especially. I don't suppose they will be visiting again soon but please do not be put off by comments.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Many water based sports are available, including Kite surfing, Scuba diving, surfing, sailboarding, water skiing. Tennis, squash and badminton courts at La Grande Stade Sports Stadium, just a short walk away. There is also a fitness centre. Les Jardins des Plantes Botanical Gardens offer a pleasant walk at any time of the year. Local attractions include Aqualand waterpark for children and adults, Sigean African Reserve, Golf, horseriding, cycling (bike hire available) and hiking. In the general area, a car journey will have you soaking up the history, art and culture of this interesting part of France.

The Tourism office, located in St Cyprien port, provides maps and extensive information on local attractions. We will gladly provide further information on request.

The beach is only a 1 minute walk away through the gardens. A very wide sandy beach with a gently sloping shoreline which is excellent for children. The whole of this beach is watched and patrolled by lifeguards.

St Cyprien enjoys an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. You have your own beach on the door step but St Cyprien also has another 12 km of beach to choose from stretching either side of the town. The beaches are never crowded and there is pleanty of parking in most places.

Road travel from the channel ports take as little as 12 hours but plan your route around Paris according to the time of year. The EuroTunnel is a cheap, efficient and flexible way of getting to and from France.

Flights direct from many UK airports to Perpignan (20km away) and other nearby provincial airports. During the off season London to Barcelona and then a 2 hour drive along the costal road is a good option (cars are also cheaper to rent in Spain).

Eurostar trains London-Perpignan.

Further Details:

Shops and facilities within easy walking distance. Hotel with bar, restaurant and spa facilities only 75m away. 30m from miles of sandy beaches. The Waikiki Bar & Restaurant is located on the beach a hundred metres away in season. Beautiful walks around the Lagoon.

Les Capellans commercial centre 10-15min walk with restaurants, boulangerie, patissierie, butchers, fish shop, fruit/veg shop, hairdressers, internet café, newsagents, medical centre, supermarket, wine shop.
