Ideally suited to the country lover for a truly relaxing holiday. Well positioned to explore the Cheviot hills, the historic Market town of Alnwick. Rothbury, the capital of Coquetdale is a lovely rural town with delightful shops and riverside walks with the beautiful National Trust property of Cragside House and Gardens only six miles away. The Scottish Borders are within easy reach too, as are the wonderful castles and Heritage coastline with the wide expanses of sandy beaches.

Wonderful holiday

We had a wonderful holiday at Lowfield. The cottage is simple and homely and was very well suited to the three small children in our party who loved the toys provided. It's very safe for adventurous toddlers. The views are spectacular and the cottage itself was cosy and clean. It's also a great location, with easy access to Alnwick but in a lovely rural setting. We will definitely hope to return!

Nearest Airport : Newcastle INternational Airport at 35 Miles Nearest Train : Alnmounth main line ,East Coast at 14 Miles Nearest Motorway : A 697 at 1 Miles Nearest Beach : Alnmouth at 14 Miles Car: necessary


The Northumberland coast is only 20 minute drive away with the lovely little village of Alnmouth being the nearest. Bamburgh with its magnificent Castle on the coast is a 30 minute drive. The brooding grandeur of Dunstanburgh with the pretty village of Craster famous for it kippers are not far away, and the wonderful Farne Islands with their colonies of seals and puffins can easily be reached from the little seaside town of Seahouses.


As we are 6 miles from Alnwick for all your needs and shopping car is required.

The nearest railway station is Alnmouth, this is on the east Coast mainline. Trains run regularly to Edinburgh great for a day out.

Newcastle Airport is 35 miles away


Alnwick 6 miles, where Historic Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Gardens home of the Duke of Northumberland can be found, a firm favourite with visitors Rothbury 7 miles with its river and Simonside hills. Chillingham Castle the most haunted castle they say, with its famous wild cattle. Wooler the gateway to the Cheviots is 12 miles away where you can explore wonderful walks into the Cheviots. All these places and many more wait to be discovered.

Alnwick has a good Swimming pool also the Playhouse Theatre where there is always something interesting to see.. We have three of the main supermarkets in Alnwick and a range of Banks. There are a number of cafes and restaurants. Barter Books the renowned second hand book shop is situated in the old Railway station a wonderful place to visit with a good coffee shop and open fires.
