A hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

Had a fabulous stay here to catch up with old friends. The accommodation was very clean, warm and welcoming. The village of Hathersage offered so much more than we expected, it's so picturesque and relaxing with plenty of lovely pubs to warm up in! This place truly is a hidden gem and we wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Owner's Response: We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in our cottage. We are centrally located in the village which has many shops, pubs and restaurants to suit all and enabling visitors to leave the car behind. There is also a lovely outdoor swimming pool open from spring to autumn. The village is also well served by public transport with trains to Sheffield and Manchester and also buses to Sheffield.

Excellent in every way

  • 5 of 5

A delightful property in a fantastic location. Roomy and very well-equipped. Spotlessly clean when we arrived. We very much enjoyed the wood stove - my 6-year-old grandson was fascinated and always wanted to be "helping" with it. Central heat, hot water, dishwasher, clothes washer all worked perfectly [and if you hike on the moors the November mud will certainly give that washing machine something to do!].

I love Hathersage. For part of my stay I did not have a car but used the local trains and buses to explore the area. Edale [the start of the Pennine Way hiking trail] is just 15 minutes on the train. Castleton, with caves and mines to visit, maybe 30 mins on the bus. You can walk to Stanage Edge and hike all day. Derbyshire hiking is awesome. And think about how nice it is not being dependent on your car.

Sheffield is only 20 minutes by train if you have a spell of bad weather or need some city entertainment.

Obviously a great experience, and highly recommended.

Great location, lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Spotlessly clean, comfortable cottage. Easily accommodates 5 adults. We loved the village. Great walks from the door. So much to do. It would be useful to know what is there - we brought everything (Tesco shop) but there was tea and coffee and some other bits and pieces in the cupboard. We ordered ice cubes but there were already 2 big bags in the freezer!

Owner's Response: We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and found the village facilities useful and the walks that can start from the door and many starting a short drive away. Apart from tea and coffee and general cleaning goods, as the cottage this year has been quite fully booked, it is difficult to know precisely what is there as some visitors leave things and others don't. There are however, two shops in the village within walking distance from which most basic essentials can be bought.

Oct Half term

We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It is a beautiful cottage very close to the local amenities. You can do some great walks right from the cottage. Some of us walked up to Stanage Edge which was a lovely walk. We hope to stay again another year.

  • 5 of 5

WE HAD A GREAT 4 DAY BREAK IN HATHERSAGE,THE COTTAGE WAS IMMACULATE AND VERY COMFORTABLE.WE DID'NT NEED TO LIGHT THE LOG BURNER BUT CAN IMAGINE IT WOULD BE REALLY COSY DURING A WINTER BREAK! NEARBY ARE 2 GOOD PUBS WHICH DO EXCELLENT FOOD,VILLAGE SHOPS AND AN INDIAN RESTAURANT.THE COTTAGE IS AN IDEAL BASE FROM WHICH TO EXPLORE THE PEAK DISTRICT AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT ACCORDINGLY.LOVELY PLACE.

Owner's Response: We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in our cottage. We are fortunate to be in a central yet quiet location within walking distance of all the village's amenities. The log burner in the living room does provide a very cosy focal point on dark winter evenings.
