About Claire Winterton

We're Ian and Claire. We moved to France in 2007 because we wanted an adventure and could speak a little bit of French from school. We were lucky enough to find a job in Castres, so rented an apartment there for a few years. In 2010 we bought our house in Boissezon. We fell in love with the village and the friendly locals have welcomed us into village life. We spent a few years renovating the house, and also the gite next door, which we are told was originally a wine and wood shop for the village. We have two young children.

Claire Winterton purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Claire Winterton chose Boissezon

When we started house-hunting we were looking for a charming French village that we could be a part of. We wanted to be fairly remote but with facilities not too far away. We knew this house was the one for us straight-away as it was in a perfect spot tucked away on its own up a track away from the village.

We love living away from the crowds and surrounded by trees, but the supermarket and market town of Castres are only 15 minutes away.

What makes this cottage unique

The gite's location on a walking route makes it ideal for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

A lovely little bolt hole for two

  • 5 of 5

We loved this gite. It was just right for two. Every aspect was of the highest quality, like an extremely comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen, modern shower room etc. There is plenty of interest in the surrounding area and good shops and all necessities within about 20 minutes drive. We thoroughly enjoyed our week.

Lovely clean, modern apartment, attentive but unobtrusive hosts.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in Boissezon, a small village but less than 15 mins to full facilities in Castres. We explored many of the nearby towns, highlights including Hautpoul, Lautrec and Castres itself. We might have gone to many more, but a week wasn't long enough.

Claire and Ian were perfect hosts, very friendly and affable, always available to answer our questions and provide anything we needed, but other than they left us to ourselves.

We would love to come back and explore more of the region one year (we are from NZ, so a long way to go). Highly recommended.

Lovely Gite for those looking to get away from it all.

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay at this Gite. Perfect as a base for cycling, walking or just enjoying nature. The owners really looked after us in an unobtrusive way. Located in a very rural area but just a short drive from everything you need in nearby Castres. No hesitation in recommending this property.

LOVELY HOUSE AND GREAT HOSPITALITY

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived, we understood very quickly why Claire and Yan are on the Saint Jacques de Compostelle path!

They have a very strong and perfect sense of the hospitality and have a total dedication to their host. Their well-designed and clean house is a lovely place to stay when you want to discover this nice region.

Comfortable Gite

  • 3 of 5

Situated in the Tarn Region in a lovely village named Boissezon, close to the town of Castres. The Gite is very comfortable and the accommodation is all on one floor (no stairs). Claire and Ian are a very welcoming couple with a beautiful young son named Remy. Lots of intereting places to vist around the area, plus not that far from Carcassone.

Lovely Holiday

  • 5 of 5

A little difficult to find first time. A super little place, ideal for two who want to do their own thing. Spotlessly clean and well maintained.

You will be made to feel most welcome and will be spoiled by the cakes provided and cooked by the owners.

I would recommend it to anybody looking for a base for touring the region.

A car is essential.

In neighbouring Noillhac, you'll find the fantastic restaurant Hostellerie d'Oc, which serves Michelin-star quality food at excellent prices. Menus between 16-35euro. We can reserve tables for you.

The nearest supermarket, petrol station and cash machine are on the outskirts of Castres (about 15mins away). You'll find lots more restaurants in Castres. We're happy to recommend our favourites.

If you're interested in wine, many chateaux in Minervois and Gaillac (each about an hour away) offer walk-in tastings. If you need help organising anything, we're happy to assist.

The gite is on the Chemin de St Jacques de Compostelle - a famous pilgrimage route - and a two-minute walk from the main village. Numerous walks can be enjoyed from your doorstep in the surrounding woodland and slightly further afield in the neighbouring Haut Languedoc national park. We can advise on the many wonderful walks in the area once you're here. With its quiet hillside tracks, the area is also ideal for mountain bikers.
