Our one-bedroom gite in the village of Boissezon, south-west France is renovated to a high standard. It is situated on the Chemin de St Jacques de Compostelle, the famous pilgrimage route that runs from France to Spain. It's the ideal escape for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. The gite is also a great base for exploring this beautiful region, with home-made cake and a bottle of wine waiting for you on arrival. The gite is also a good base for anybody who is house hunting in the region - and we're happy to pass on our advice after buying our own property here.
We're Ian and Claire. We moved to France in 2007 because we wanted an adventure and could speak a little bit of French from school. We were lucky enough to find a job in Castres, so rented an apartment there for a few years. In 2010 we bought our house in Boissezon. We fell in love with the village and the friendly locals have welcomed us into village life. We spent a few years renovating the house, and also the gite next door, which we are told was originally a wine and wood shop for the village. We have two young children.
Claire Winterton purchased this cottage in 2010
When we started house-hunting we were looking for a charming French village that we could be a part of. We wanted to be fairly remote but with facilities not too far away. We knew this house was the one for us straight-away as it was in a perfect spot tucked away on its own up a track away from the village.
We love living away from the crowds and surrounded by trees, but the supermarket and market town of Castres are only 15 minutes away.
The gite's location on a walking route makes it ideal for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
When we arrived, we understood very quickly why Claire and Yan are on the Saint Jacques de Compostelle path!
They have a very strong and perfect sense of the hospitality and have a total dedication to their host. Their well-designed and clean house is a lovely place to stay when you want to discover this nice region.
Situated in the Tarn Region in a lovely village named Boissezon, close to the town of Castres. The Gite is very comfortable and the accommodation is all on one floor (no stairs). Claire and Ian are a very welcoming couple with a beautiful young son named Remy. Lots of intereting places to vist around the area, plus not that far from Carcassone.
A little difficult to find first time. A super little place, ideal for two who want to do their own thing. Spotlessly clean and well maintained.
You will be made to feel most welcome and will be spoiled by the cakes provided and cooked by the owners.
I would recommend it to anybody looking for a base for touring the region.
A car is essential.
Had a lovely stay at this fantastic gite! We where made so very welcome by claire and Ian, you could not wish for such a kind and warm couple, we can't recommend this gite highly enough and would return as we loved the area and the friendly locals, we feel we have known Ian and claire forever! Thank you so much for everything and the cake was fab! Love and hugs Gary and Jan xx
Our week at this delightful apartment was perfect. The accommodation was stylish, comfortable, well equipped, spotlessly clean and the owners were welcoming and available in case of need. All in all we had a lovely time with plenty to do in the area (a visit to Minerve was a highlight, as recommended by Claire). We were also pleased to find that, though the weather was hot whilst we were there, the apartment remained comfortably cool being shaded by many trees. The location of the property ? on the edge of the small village ? is ideal: quiet and restful, yet accessible, and there are plenty of walks available starting right at the front door.
Overall we can't recommend this property highly enough and we'd certainly love to return at some point.
Claire and Ian could not be friendlier or more welcoming and nothing is too much trouble (they even rushed home from work to rescue my wife's wedding ring from the wash basin plug hole!). From the welcome pack (including Claire's delicious home-baked cakes) to the tasteful decor and home comforts of the gite, I can heartily recommend staying here. The setting in the Natural Park is very attractive and the village is delightful and friendly and I can recommend the Hostellerie D'Oc in the next village - Michelin quality food at incredible prices. Claire and Ian's other recommendations, in the excellent folder of local information they provide, are also very good. I must also recommend the dinners that can be ordered and collected from the village epicerie - home cooking at its best. If you wish to stay in a place where the owners have taken care to provide a thoughtful, comfortable and pleasant environment, then this gite will do it for you.
