House near Tintagel, Cornwall - peaceful location overlooking St Nectan's Glen, with parking
Wain Cottage is a spacious two bedroom house located in a tiny hamlet overlooking the rugged coastline between Tintagel and Boscastle. The cottage enjoys lovely views of sea and rolling countryside. Accessed by a private road, it feels ‘off the beaten track’ yet Tintagel is only 2 miles away. The cottage has full central heating by propane gas (included in the price). There is a wood burning stove with a basket of logs supplied. There are beams throughout the cottage and full double glazed doors and windows. All in all, a comfortable and cosy place to spend a peaceful and relaxed holiday. The cottage garden is fully enclosed and in fine weather is ideal to sit out in and enjoy. The hamlet of Trevillett is safe for children to roam around. If you like self-catering you will not be disappointed with the facilities; if you prefer to eat out there are many recommended local restaurants, pubs and tea rooms.

About the Owner
As a family we are based in Bristol. For many years we have enjoyed spending self-catering holidays with our 2 children, often in Cornwall. We love the coast of North Cornwall with its stunning scenery and secluded beaches. The weather can be unpredictable (sometimes April, May and June are best), but if it is cloudy near us it will often be sunny elsewhere. We try to maintain Wain Cottage as a home from home, so that you really can self-cater if you want to and are comfortable during your stay. It is our second home and we look forward to returning to spend our holidays there.

An absolutely fabulous cottage, beautifully appointed and fantastically equipped . Nothing has been overlooked. A welcome haven at the end of long days touring around Cornwall. Wain Cottage is everything you see on the website . Highly recommended !
Delightfully Peaceful & Comfortable
This wonderful cottage nestles on a hillside just outside Tintagel, overlooking the sea and coastal hills. It is well equipped and snugly warm, and just the place to be at the end of winter for a recharge or at any time when looking for an excellent base to explore from. Everything was clean and everything worked. We spent much of our time pottering along the coast on foot or by car, returning early to work on a jigsaw, have supper, read (a real pleasure for us on holidays) and then head to the wonderful bed. Slept like logs! Proper lie ins!
Lovely, peaceful cottage
What a wonderful cottage, full of character and charm. We stayed for a week in August with our two teenage daughters and all thought the cottage was fabulous. Really well equipped with everything you could need and spacious too.The internet and tv was of superior quality and highly praised by my daughters ! It's in a lovely quiet hamlet only minutes from Tintagel and Rocky Valley just down the road being one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall. All in all we enjoyed our stay, it was cosy even when the August rain lashed down outside !
We arrived late due to hospital visit but were greeted by a warm and inviting interior. The modcons for a cottage seemed exceptional to us and even the slate floor seemed warm. Loved the wood burner(note they dont have grates unless coal or dual fuel-other reviewers error)provides a focus away from the TV (with DVD and SKY HD to the joy of one of my sons) Large living space was exceptional and bedrooms homely. We loved the decor which wasn't overdone. Enough room spaces to have your own downtime too. Good bathroom (spacious for kids bathtime) which also had same good view as kitchen and one bedroom though our van blocked one living room window. Kitchen sink view enjoyed as dishwasher for the crockery! Comfy bed meant we overslept cocooned against rather poor weather in February. Picnic table would be sheltered space when weather permits.
A Gorgeous Cottage
We really enjoyed the cosy atmosphere of Wain cottage. The kitchen was well equipped and there is a large bathroom with a good shower. There was lots of space in the house for two active boys (8and 3) who also enjoyed the freedom of being in the lovely garden which is enclosed so we didn't need to be out with them all the time. The central heating was fantastic and easy to control when the weather was a bit cooler. There are lovely features in the cottage and it was a very relaxing stay. We were able to walk across the field nearby and enjoyed visiting the area by car.
All in all a really nice place to stay.
Not a bad place.
When we got there we thought how lovely it looked. Once inside it wasn't as lovely as we had hoped. The bed is not kingsize, it is two singles pushed together with two single duvets. However we did manage to find a king duvet to put in the king size cover that was on the bed, however someone had stitched a piece of material to the top of the cover to make it look pretty and had stitched all the way through so we couldn't get the duvet in. We put the singles over it sideways to lessen the gap down the centre which sufficed.
The hob was supposed to be induction buy it wasn't and the buttons were very sketchy and didn't function too well. The decor was a bit mismatched and everything had a red and white polka dot piece of vinyl roughly cut and thrown across which looked very tacky to be honest.
The fire wouldn't stay lit long enough because there was no grate on the bottom for everything to sit on and air to circulate. We got through a lot of wood! The claim of sky TV is misleading as yes it has sky but the box is so old it has less channels than freeview, and yes that is possible. Internet access was ok but being that there was hardly any TV we streamed most TV from the Internet which gained us a call from the owners saying they have a 10GB limit; which would have been plenty if the sky tv was updated.
On to the good points. The central heating was very good and kept us toasty, always had hot water and the shower was good and bathroom cosy. Gorgeous garden; the smell of wild flowers was fantastic. Great sea views (out of the twin room mind you) and two massive couches and two nice reading chairs you can put next to the fire. Kitchen was well equipped and clean
Its a very quiet location and you can't really hear the quarry. Gorgeoys sunsets can be seen from the drive. Overall the actually cottage itself is lovely but it fails on lots of little things which is a shame. If attention was paid to the little details like the ones i have pointed out then this cottage would have been perfect. As it is however we found this place greatly lacking in the comforts you would expect when you go on holiday.
From the Owner
“Wain Cottage is set in a fine position on a hillside with views of the Cornish coast between Tintagel and Boscastle. The cottage was converted from a nineteenth century slate-built barn in the 1980s. For the last ten years it has been available to let as a holiday home and maintained to a high standard. We bought Wain Cottage in 2012 to use for our own family holidays, and also to be available for those who love the wild and rugged coast of North Cornwall. Several fine beaches are only a few minutes' drive away. Wain Cottage is set in its own private location in a small hamlet yet it is close to all amenities. Access via the A30 or A39 means you are never too far from bigger towns and popular visitor attractions.”
Activity and Interests
The sandy North Cornwall beaches are numerous and often secluded, the nearest being 5 minutes' drive away: many are accessible only at low tide. The cliff-tops and headlands are great for walking and bird watching. Inland there are the moors, valleys and rivers which make this an area of outstanding natural beauty.
A car is essential; nearest rail station Bodmin, with the nearest airport at Newquay.
Tintagel is 2 miles away with shops and post office, pubs and restaurants. Boscastle with its delightful harbour and good restaurants and pubs is 3 miles. Eden Project and Heligan are about 40 mins away. The Camel Trail ideal for cycling and walking starts about 15 mins away. Many fine large country homes of interest close by. A large selection of literature at the cottage. Excellent Tourist Information Centre in Tintagel.
The cottage is quietly located but very central for sightseeing. The towns of Wadebridge, Launceston, Bodmin and Bude all less than 30 mins away with the larger supermarkets. All these towns have banks and restaurants; at Bude there is a bowling alley. Camelford just 15 mins away has an indoor heated public pool with a private golf course just outside the town. There is a Co-Op in Camelford, Tesco's at Launceston and Wadebridge, and Morrisons and Asda at Bodmin. On the road to Bodmin at Hengar Manor there is an indoor pool and 9 hole golf course open to the public.

“The coast of North Cornwall is wonderful for walking and we have footpaths starting right from the door of Wain Cottage. We are a mile by road from Rocky Valley and the sea at Bossiney Haven. You are then on the South West Coast Path with fine cliff-top walks to Tintagel or to Boscastle.”

- Notes on accommodation: There is a safety gate at the top of the stairs. There is a heating unit in the kitchen which becomes an air-conditioning fan in the summer. As the cottage is stone built it tends to stay cool in the summer and retain its heat in the winter. It is very suitable for all ages, but care should be taken with very young toddlers at the bottom of the stairs as there is no way of fitting a safety gate and the first few steps are slate. We regret that we are unable to accommodate pets. No smoking in the cottage. Outside: The main garden is to the south of the cottage and fully enclosed with garden furniture; it is lawn with a raised flower bed, and in the summer this can be a sun trap. To the side of the property is a separate paved garden which is not fully enclosed. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen is included in the price but towels are not included: they can be hired if required. Cleaning is carried out at the end of your stay. A second set of linen is supplied for 2 week lets. Tea towels and cleaning material are provided.
