Cottage in West Meon, Nr. Petersfield, South Downs, Hampshire, England - Peaceful Retreat Yet Close To Many Facilities, 30 Mins Beach, Tennis & Local Village Shop 5 Mins

This cottage, voted No. 1 cool cottage of Hampshire by The Guardian is located in a breathtaking setting and surrounded by rolling countryside. The Stables offer a 5 star private and peaceful retreat on the most southerly point of West Meon. This elegantly refurbished cottage with (shared) pool has its own private access and garden. It is ideally suited for all kinds of activities because of its location. 20 Mins from coast, 20 mins to Winchester, 10 mins to nearest railway, Southampton airport 30 mins away. Country pursuits on the doorstep include fabulous walks, as we are in a National Park, fishing, riding, cycling and golfing, whilst National Trust Houses and historic towns, such as Winchester, are under 30 mins. There are number of good pubs in the area and many fine dining restaurants too. The pool is beautifully heated and has a Roman end with steps for lazy afternoons and reading. It is our intention to make this a really special visit.

About the Owner

I love living in Hampshire because of its peace and tranquility and have also enjoyed working in the city 12 years before starting a family. Now that the children are at university, I have set up a small business in property development and planning consultancy and enjoy designing buildings and their interiors. My husband and I have traveled a little and have stayed in some guests houses, some of which have been just fabulous. My aim is to create a special experience for my guests and offer a unique opportunity to enjoy our gorgeous countryside and stunning views in a luxurious style and comfort where they feel genuinely pampered.

Peace and tranquility!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a very warm welcome from Vanessa and a wonderful welcome pack including a chilled bottle of pink cava. The location is fabulous, beautiful countryside all around and very tranquil. The Stables are finished to a very high standard with very comfortable furnishings and beautifully clean.I loved the walk-in shower. The kitchen is very well equipped and I found everything I needed was here.Everything has been provided to try and make your holiday as perfect as possible. There is a wide selection of books and DVDs and as you open drawers and cupboards you find lovely hidden treats! There is a file containing copies of local circular walks, we took one everyday and off we went. An air printer is there too to print tickets etc or whatever you may need.

A fabulous pool adds to your enjoyment. There are lots of sun loungers for relaxation.

The village itself is very pretty with a good pub, village shop and a butchers. If you just wanted complete relaxation you have everything here. It is also ideally situated for the coast, Winchester, Chichester and beautiful country walks etc.

The Stables has a beautiful garden and offers privacy, peace and tranquility.

It is without doubt the best holiday accommodation we have stayed at in this country. It is the complete package and Vanessa has created a wonderful holiday experience. I do hope that we're able to return.

Absolutely amazing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The Stables really is the perfect getaway for a romantic break. The idyllic village of West Meon is so easy to get to from London and yet feels like it is a million miles away, with breathtaking views from the cottage and plenty of lovely walks. The cottage itself is stunningly decorated and furnished, and kitted out with everything you could possibly want from kitchen utensils to luxury toiletries to games and DVDs to keep you entertained. Vanessa really went above and beyond to welcome us, and has put so many thoughtful finishing touches in place to make the weekend special and personal to us. We couldn't recommend it more!

Amazing luxury getaway

  • 5 of 5

Me and my partner came for two nights. Wish we had longer. Vanessa had afternoon tea set out for us when we arrived and chilled champagne. She has everything in that kitchen you would ever need and eveyrhing has been kept so clean. Bathroom was my favourite, there is a huge tub and comfy bath robes as well as her luxury toiletries and heated floor. Even though we didn't leave the cottage for one of the hikes there was so much to do, she has lots of DVDs and board games as well as the sky plus tv. The living room has big windows that look out onto the fields and comfy couches. Overall a relaxing break would definitely come again soon for longer.

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

We were only there for 2 nights which was far too short but it was enough to experience the beauty of this cottage! Genuinely felt quite overwhelmed when we walked in at how beautiful everything is. Vanessa takes a lot of care to make everything perfect, and our stay couldn't have been any better and the cottage is equipped with everything imaginable. Was an amazing break, and will definitely be back again!

Truly 5 star luxury!

  • 5 of 5

Even the grey weather couldn't dampen our warm welcome from Vanessa on our arrival. Everything about the cottage and the location was perfect. A lovely pub with excellent food in West Meon, just a short walk down a lane, only added to the enjoyment of our stay.

Luxury peaceful tranqulity

  • 5 of 5

We received a very warm welcome, with cakes on arrival - property was exceptionally clean, warm and cosy on a wet November day. It truly was luxury, peaceful and tranquil, idea for just relaxing and taking it easy. Everything we needed was catered for. The welcome pack was very comprehensive. Followed one of the walks in the pack on Sunday, arriving at the George in East Meon for a fabulous Sunday Lunch. In fact loved everything about the Stables. Will definitely be returning.

Location

From the Owner

Having enjoyed London and all it offers, it seemed fitting to move to the country when we had small children. The house we chose is in a fine location, set up high on the hills where glorious views can be enjoyed. The Stables are part of our property and has its own private drive and access, private garden and terrace and is in more elevated position than the house which makes it such a perfect retreat. We invite our guest to make use of the pool which is only yards away and is a floral delight. Converting The Stables, at the end of 2012, has been a fabulous project and real chance to create something unique and cutting edge. Light and space were most important. Here, enjoy the peace and tranquillity with shops, post office, butcher and gastro pub just 5 mins walk away.
