Old Country House in La Croix, Verteillac, Dordogne, France
Very comfortable country house with views over rolling countryside.
The house has three double bedrooms, all ensuite, there is a small single room suitable for a child that can be made available. A well fitted kitchen gives onto the covered terrace with superb views. The house is a family home, and not just a rental property, as such is full of great art & very comfortable, the large sitting room has TV/DVD and lots of games. There are all mod cons, washing machine etc. and all linen and towels are provided. There is a private enclosed pool and many places to be tranquil and apart from the maddening crowd!
It is peacefully situated on the edge of a small hamlet, but within easy reach of small towns with all facilities and not far from the larger towns of Perigueux & Angouleme. Riberac (15kms) has a renowned market on Fridays and many restaurants, as does the nearer town of Verteillac. In the summer months there is great music in all the local bar/restaurants. Just over the border in the Charentes is the region of Cognac & Pineau with Aubeterre, (one of the most beautiful villages in France) a very old hill top town with the largest monolithic churches in Europe (a church carved into the rock) and the river with a great beach for kids. Perigueux the Dordogne's capital has a beautiful renaissance center and impressive Gallo-Roman museum, designed by Jean Nouvel, well worth a visit. The city has a wonderful market on Wednesdays food, clothes everything! Further south there is Sarlat and surrounding Bastide towns, but having said that, I don't think you'll want to go far it is a really nice spot!
Details for holiday farmhouse Sleeps 6 (3 Bedrooms), 4 Bedrooms, Sleeps 6, 3 Bathrooms
Three double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. A small single can be made available which is suitable for a child. Large sitting room with books and games,
TV/DVD. The large kichen/dining room is very well equipped (this is a family home
and not a sterile rental gite,) this gives out onto a covered terrace with superb views and easy access to the private swimming pool (10mx5m) the whole house is surrounded by a lovely garden, with shady knooks and crannies!
We are situated on the edge of a small rural hamlet with quiet neighbours, but a couple of them are farmers so they do til the surrounding fields.
About the Owner
I am in my 60's & used to run a hotel/Art school here in France, so if you would
like any catering, I can cook! I have rented out properties here & in the Uk and try to make them as welcoming & comfortable as possible, so far no complaints!
This property doesn't have any reviews yet!
From the Owner
“I have lived in France for 26 years and moved to this house about 10 years ago, because of the beautiful countryside and lack of humidity. The northern part of the Dordogne where we were before has many more forests and further south seems to get too hot, I find this part of France has a gentler climate, it can however get up to 38 in a hot summer! The house is on the edge of a small & friendly hamlet, secluded but not isolated and the pool has a great view over rolling countryside, not a house in sight! The local villages & towns are less touristic than the Dordogne Valley, and there are many good festivals in this part of the world & just over the border in the Charentes region. Food in the daily markets of Angouleme is really good quality and the local farmer's markets have everything a foodie could need!”

From the Owner
“The house is on the edge of a hamlet nice neighbours no barking dogs! Excellent local markets & shops in Verteillac which is about 5 miles. Good local cafés & restaurants and wonderful towns such as Aubeterre & Brantome not far away. The view really is superb over rolling fields planted with sunflowers & maize and Limousin cows in the distance, it is a very tranquil spot.”
