Good size. Nice location. Well appointed. Certain small maintenance issues.

  • 3 of 5

Our overall experience was a very good one. The property was a good size for 2 person occupancy situated in a very pleasant area with nice views. It was well appointed and initial difficulties with the WiFi were quickly solved talking to the owner over the phone.

The welcome pack was a good and useful touch. The fridge worked satisfactorily but tended to wet the top shelf because of ice build up and the need for a defrost.

Unfortunately the toilet seat was loose on arrival and attached to the bowl by flimsy plastic clips, and eventually one of the clips became detached and was flushed away. Perhaps a temporary repair was made prior to our visit , but obviously a more robust repair is required.

The area is generally quiet with nice views over the valley. However at the weekends the locality was very noisy largely due to the efforts of one or two young teenagers with the family in the house to the left (north) who did many circuits along the lane at the back on mini-scrambling bikes. It appeared that the family were using the property as a weekend home because it was quiet during the week. Obviously we appreciate the owners are in no way responsible for the behaviour of their neighbours, but as comments were asked for this is worth drawing attention to as it does affect the experience of the property.

To end on a positive note I would like to thank the owner for helping us out with the WiFi so quickly, and providing very good directions to the property which is quite tucked away down the country lanes.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Apologies for the Toilet seat and the Fridge. The toilet seat was a temporary fix as we found the original in a bad state of repair without a report and had to make a remedial repair very quickly on changeover. The Fridge unfortunately is a difficult situation to rectify on changeover day. We have had a very successful rental period at the gite over this past year, without having a full opportunity to defrost the appliance due to continuous guests. This coupled with the glorious weather we are still continuing to enjoy, encourages the guests to run the Fridge on the top setting for cooling to keep there food provisions in top condition. This in turn causes the appliance to frost up a little. As you say it does work satisfactory and is fit for purpose. We do however find your comment about the neighbours a little puzzling. Your booking was for only one week which would mean that the potential for "weekend" disturbance was just one day (Sunday), which we apologise for, but out of our control. The neighbours are there full time and it is their family home. They have two young boys, not teenagers, who enjoy a typical outdoor French lifestyle, which includes in their case, a couple of small motorcycles to use on the surrounding land. The gite is advertised to be in a hamlet which implies there will be people around. You carry on to say and agree the house is as advertised and we take, will monitor, will address the very small issues you mention. The comfort of our guests is very important to us and all feedback positive or negative is taken very seriously.

Short stay in the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

A very well equiped gite offering an excellent sfandard of accommodation which was clean and tidy. The owners provided a welcoming pack which was full of useful food items. Personal contact from trhe owner made us feel a valued. Access to WIFi and British TV was very useful. Lots of information and maps of the area provided us with ideas to fill our days. Would definitely book again if returning to the area and would reccomend the gite to friends

Not Satisfied

  • 2 of 5

Arrived to find a cat at the front door laid in its own muck not a good first impression.(cats were not mentioned in the advert) The welcome pack was out of date, the bedding in our opinion had not been laundered, and the kitchen, bathroom and toilet were not to our standard of hygiene.

We had to clean and wash these areas and install air fresheners before we could get to sleep.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our property. It was a surprise that you found the property unsatisfactory as we have not encountered this before. All other reviews and guests comments have been very positive. However I will be polite enough to respond to each comment from our prospective. It was unfortunate that you allegedly found a cat in a distressed state at our front door. We live 10 mins drive away so would have had no idea this was the situation and the cat is/was certainly not owned by us. So I am not sure what could have been done about this on your immediate arrival. The welcome pack was out of date because we did not have a definite time of arrival. You were touring on a motorcycle and you kept modifying your arrival date so in the end we had to take an educated guess of when you would arrive. The guess was wrong, apologies but we can only act on the information we have. The bedding had been laundered and if you expect a higher standard perhaps a hotel stay would be better suited to your requirements. The listed rooms are of were and are up to standard in this market, again can I refer you back to a hotel stay. They were certainly clean and comfortable. All in all I think you have a misconception of what a French gite holiday is all about. In was also disappointing that although you knew we lived only 10 mins away you only decided to complain 4 days into your holiday, not giving us the chance to rectify any issues that you may have had. If had had a phone call at an earlier juncture we would have attended straight away to ensure your stay was a comfortable and trouble free holiday.

Happy Holidays

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week in this lovely bungalow near Domme. It is spacious well equipped for cooking and very clean and tidy. The gardens are big and great views of the countryside. We spent many a happy hour sunbathing on the provided loungers in the private back garden! A welcome touch was a lovely welcome basket of goodies much appreciated especially the red wine! Also welcome was English TV and internet access. Great location very peaceful and quiet but close to Sarlat and other fantastic areas to visit. Also we took our bikes and there are nice quiet country roads to cycle on. The weather was beautiful hot and sunny so we had a perfect week :)

Lovely villa. Well equipped. Peaceful location. Near canoeing stations of the Dordogne. Near the attractions of the area. Bastides Domme Beynac Castlenaud.Chateau Les Milandes. Sarlat. Also Rocamadour where the Roche des Aigles an ecopark is well worth a visit. We found it an excellent holiday base.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. As you know this is our first venture into owning and letting out our own holiday property. We have tried to use the knowledge we have gained from property renovation, property management and being a property owner in France and the UK to provide a feelgood holiday experience for our guests. We thank you for choosing our villa in our first year and hope you will return in the future. We would also like to invite you to recommend us to persons you may know which this house would suit. We have in mind a few improvement opportunities for next year, so please watch this space !!!! Happy Holidays!!!

Well furnished and very clean and within easy reach of places of interest, with a good restaurant near Lake at Grolejac, about 10mins away. The gite has a large garden with far reaching views. everything you need for a holiday. We would stay again without hesitation.

the only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is that nothing is perfect,

but for us this was pretty close
