About Belinda Bartle

Barolin Farm is the family home in which I grew up. I am the youngest of the Bartle family, renowned for their fame and success in the horse world. It adjoins the Yorkshire Riding Centre, which my mother founded in 1962. We enjoyed a wonderful and eccentric childhood here, wondering about the extensive grounds and riding constantly. Guests at Barolin Farm, are welcome to visit the horses and watch lessons taking place. Now my two daughters have grown up and fled the nest, and after a very successful stay at new years by a group of friends, we have now decided to make it available for groups to rent out. We receive plaudits for it's unique charm, comfort and suitability.

Belinda Bartle purchased this chateau / country house in 1950

Why Belinda Bartle chose Markington

Barolin Farm was originally part of the Wilberforce estate built in the late 18th century, and it is very much a country house set in beautiful Yorkshire countryside between Harrogate and Ripon.

It is in a great situation for a rural retreat, surrounded by rolling Yorkshire countryside, half a mile outside the sleepy village of Markington.

Its perfectly located for access to Yorkshire's most popular tourist destinations; two miles from the great heritage site Fountains Abbey and six miles from Newby Hall.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Barolin Farm has 8 spacious bedrooms, sleeping 17 all en suite.

The large farmhouse kitchen with an Aga is very much the heart of the house.

Adjoining the kitchen is a snug area with solid fuel stove.

The large drawing room with log fire and the dining room make entertaining in this house a real occasion.

So there is plenty of room for large groups and all generations to enjoy.

The one acre walled garden on the South side of the house and the courtyard on the North provides ample traffic free safe space for children to let off steam.

There is also a tennis court to play in.

Guestbook comments from the owner

'Our room was spacious, airy and well equipped. The bathroom huge and both of these rooms overlooking the beautiful garden.

The location is a little out of the way which was perfect for us, very tranquil.

We would definitely recommend this guest house to a couple wanting a tranquil few nights away. Its a magic, secret place.'

Mike and Alison

Excellent stay (our second) Great kindness and comfort. Utterly unique.

Thank you!

Beautiful house ideal for large groups

  • 5 of 5

Stayed with a group of adults for a hen party, but I think this house would equally suit a family with children as it is so spacious and the gardens are beautiful.

All the rooms have either an ensuite or access to a private bathroom . The kitchen is large and well equipped.

Weekend Celebration, an ideal setting

  • 5 of 5

Belinda was extremely helpful in the run up to organising our weekend party, a Retirement Celebration.

The house itself was cosy, welcoming and accommodating and lent itself to relaxation and fun in equal measure. We had a very memorable time and would recommend

Great for a group get together!

  • 4 of 5

Second time we’ve stayed here as a big group of friends and it’s been great! Lots of comfy and cosy communal spaces and great grounds for the kids to play in. Showers as you’d expect for an old property. Kitchen is well stocked, perfect spot to do your own catering for a grouo get together!

Great place for my 60th birthday

  • 4 of 5

Barolin Farm suited our needs perfectly. The good thing about this place-unlike so many other large group places was that everyone had their own bedroom and bathroom-no bunking up here! We booked this for my 60th birthday-the same weekend as the "beast from the east" was wreaking havoc everywhere. Everyone arrived -amazingly and we had a great time. The house was toasty warm all weekend. Belinda is helpful and on site. She answered all my pre party questions in detail which reassured me.She was very accommodating when we thought we may have to make changes. We did not find her intrusive at all. The house is large so no one felt crowded. The kitchen is well equipped .The grounds are huge-though we didn't make use of them due to the snow-though we did leave behind a snowman! There are lots of things to see locally and our group got out and about on the Saturday. We had a fantastic caterer-Ashley Close-The Rural food Company. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Use him if you can!! We also hired a table football for the weekend from Active Hire Yeadon, which added to the fun.All in all a great weekend in an amazing place. Four stars not five as the pumbing is a bit hit and miss but I understand this is the next big expense. It didn't bother us too much.My 86 year old mum has said that if she reaches 90 she will hire it herself!!

Beautiful place- perfect for a family gathering!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for my Dad's 70th- lovely surroundings, great for the kids to run around in the garden and a bonus to have the riding stables next door to go and look at the horses. Great communication with the owner, spacious and everything you need!
