Cornish Cottage. Set In 7 Acres With Trout Fishing, Boscastle, North Cornwall.

Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Nov-2016
Cottage in Boscastle, Cornwall, England - Tranquil And Unique Location Next To A Bubbling Trout Stream And Bluebell Wood. Near To Beaches

Anderton Mill is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sleeping four in two bedrooms, it provides superb family accommodation, but is also ideal for couples wishing to get away from it all. Renovated by the owners over a period of twenty years, it is very much a home, rather than simply a holiday cottage. This ancient watermill has been converted with flair and finesse and includes slate floors, a log burner, deep oak window seats and contemporary furnishings. The three patios are real sun traps; 'the riverside terrace', is complete with sun loungers, whilst the upper patio has a built-in barbecue and teak furniture. There is plenty to do within the 7 acre grounds, including trout fishing, pond dipping and scaling the tree house, as well as excellent local walks in the valley. The house is only a short drive (or indeed a walk for the fit!) to the North Cornish coast and its varied beaches. Space, peace and tranquillity are the hallmarks of this unique rural retreat.

Melanie and her family were ideal guests. They treated our cottage and its grounds with utmost respect, were very enthusiastic, and answered all our correspondence promptly. We would love them to return.

Absolutely Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful property tucked away from it all, we felt very privileged to have the opportunity to borrow what is clearly a labour of love for Kay and Peter. We couldn't ask for more, everything you need is there. We were very comfortable and cosy with the wood burner going, and really enjoyed the wildlife that popped up from time to time. We hope to stay again in the Summer months sometime when we can truly benefit from the outside areas. Our son loved the tree house too! Perfect half term break, walks from the door and excellent beaches close by for surfing and running the dog ragged :) Top tip don't place an order for a delivery from Tesco - they won't find you!!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind, generous and honest comments. Lovely to hear that the deer visited you by the cottage as they can be a little picky, as can the Tesco drivers! Nice to hear that the tree house was well used and that you enjoyed the walks from the cottage as well as the beaches and the rambles along the coast. Thank you for looking after the cottage and we shall look forward to your return at some point in the near future. Best wishes Pete and Kay

Idyllic, peacefull location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is just wonderful. The location is breathtaking, hidden away but easy to get to. Waking up to the gentle sound of the river flowing past the cottage was a delight. The gardens are pretty with numerous patios around the cottage to catch the sun as it moves round throughout the day. It was a great base and close to lots of lovely sights and places to visit. The cottage was very clean and well maintained and Pete and Kay provided excellent costumer service. I would definitely recommend Andertons Mill to anyone looking for a relaxing Cornish retreat.

Anderton Mill, a gem of a cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We have been returning to Anderton Mill every year, with one exception, since we first discovered it in 2005. It's setting is truly magical. If you enjoy peace and tranquility, then you will not be disappointed. The owners, Pete & Kay, ensure that the cottage is always spotlessly clean and the grounds are very well managed. We love everything about the cottage, especially the privacy which it affords. We have already booked for 2017 and can't wait to return!

Great break in a magical spot

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing job the owners have done with that place (especially considering the before and after photos)! We had a lovely time in the cottage; the children loved the river, the pond, and the treehouse, and the environment in which the cottage is set is enchanting. We couldn't have wished for a better place to spend a week as a family, and the owners are available and attentive throughout.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the cottage and yet again, it didn't disappoint! The cottage remains a pretty little secret in a valley with immaculately kept gardens. The owners offer great communication which makes you feel like you're the first people to ever stay there! What a fantastic holiday we've had! We hope to visit again soon.

Beautiful Days

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay and hopefully not our last. With perfect weather all our expectations were not only met but greatly exceeded.

This is an excellent location for getting out and exploring the North Cornwall coast the only problem is its so idyllic by the river at Anderton Mill you rarely want to. The babbling water soothes you as you chill on the ample terrace alongside; reading or snoozing. Or you can have a paddle up and down it with the kids.

The Mill's huge plot of land offered many places to catch the sun all day with beautifully landscaped gardens, lovely seating areas, a built-in bbq, pizza oven and fire pit. The pond was brilliant and packed with life; we've never seen so many newts before. In fact there's wildlife everywhere from badgers to bees and bats and all sorts of birds. (Even Otters have been seen on the river too).

The cottage was as comfy, clean and well-equipped as we remembered and packed full of character. The love the owners have for their place is evident everywhere in their attention to detail of its restoration and its hard to see how it could be bettered.

We'd love to come back again and would highly recommend it to everyone.

Location

From the Owner

We stumbled across Anderton Mill by chance when walking in the area. At the time it was a complete ruin but we fell in love with its stunning position in the Valency Valley. We spent the next 15 years lovingly restoring it, as time and money allowed. It is now a very special home. We were delighted to receive Rural Property of the Year Award for 2011. Although we visit often, we have been letting Anderton Mill for almost 20 years, with many of our guests returning year after year - the record being 16 years in succession! North Cornwall remains one of the least spoilt areas of Great Britain and the Vallency Valley is a very special place. We have spent many happy times here with our family and friends.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Anderton Mill is located 3 miles from the sea with many good surfing and family beaches within a short drive.

Our local beaches are Crackington Haven- a 15 minute drive and Trebarwith Strand - 20 minutes away.

The nearest airports are Newquay and Exeter. It is a one hour drive from Plymouth.

There is a good local bus service - Western Greyhound, useful for round robin walks, but a car is advisable.

Distances:

The nearest village is half a mile away at Tresparrett and has a pub. There is a Post Office and store at Marshgate - about a mile away. Located about a mile from the A39, all of Cornwall is easily accessible by car. The Eden Project is about 50 minutes away, and Rock, Padstow, Bude, Newquay and Tintagel are easily reached. Access to the rugged beauty of Bodmin Moor is about 20 minutes. Near to the Mill is public footpath which takes you through the Valency Valley to Boscastle.

Facilities

From the Owner

We always enjoy the peace and tranquility of the cottage; the abundance of wildlife and the variety offered by the seasons. Sitting outside on a warm evening is a real joy, listening to the river and gazing at stars we don't see in the city. This place is unique - something that our guests often comment on.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: This is a wonderful place for both families and couples. Children will love exploring the grounds, especially the tree house, river and ponds. Due to the proximity of water, young children will need to be supervised. Several of our guests have 'roughed it' in the tree house - it contains a small bed - mattress kept in the house. The 3 patios take advantage of the movement of the sun throughout the day and there is outside lighting on the riverside patio for warm evenings. We have a very secluded afternoon/evening patio with built in BBQ and teak furniture, which catches the last of the day's sun. Outside: 3 patios, BBQ area, outdoor furniture, beautiful gardens, ponds, river, small field and plenty of parking. Utility Room: Utility room comprising washing machine, tumble drier and worktop with cupboards. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned before your arrival and tea towels are provided. Optional clean midway on a 2 week letting. Currently we ask guests to provide their own bed linen and towels. Duvets are provided.
