18th Century 1 Bedroom Holiday Cottage With Modern Facilities In Beautiful Conservation Village

Overview

Property

Updated: 17-Nov-2016
Cottage in Foolow, Peak District, Derbyshire, England - At Centre Of Peak Park And At Crossroads Of Many Of The Area's Footpaths.

Four star Enjoy England accredited Fern Cottage dates back to the 1700’s and is built in limestone in keeping with this area of ‘the white peak.’ Stands within a beautiful conservation village just around the corner from the village green with its pond and ducks and is convenient for the Bull's Head pub restaurant. The property provides modern facilities such as a log burner, a modern kitchen and a state of the art shower room without compromising on the comfort and ambience of a traditional historical cottage. Gas fired central heating is in place. The small garden area has a stepped stone terrace. There is both a garage and a car standing space just “off the road”. Foolow is well known as being a small friendly village and our guests certainly seem to enjoy being at “the hub” of village life. A feature is the number who return to Fern Cottage year after year. Changeover day Fridays.

About the Owner

The owners, Jenny and Rodger Vickers, grew up within the southern suburbs of Sheffield. They have known each other all their lives. They have walked the hills and Dales of the Peak District and patronised its pubs, coffee shops and restaurants for as long as they can remember. They purchased Fern Cottage at Foolow as a 'bolthole' to get away from busy city life in 1984 and, following the birth of their two boys in the late 1980's, took the plunge and purchased nearby Brosterfield Hall and its neighbouring Brosterfield Cottage in 1994. Rodger is a Chartered Surveyor who specialises in the leisure industries, Jenny having been head of PE within a large Sheffield school changed career paths after the birth of the boys and has since then been involved in the cottages and in dog training

Lovely old stone cottage.

  • 4 of 5

Traditional cosy stone cottage, with a garage & parking space. Cottage was small but perfectly formed & had all that you would need for a warm & comfortable stay. In a excellent location with a good pub just down the lane.

Pretty dales village with ducks on the pond & very friendly villagers. Many walks from the door, easy reach of Tideswell, Bakewell, Chatsworth, etc.

Location

Chatsworth House Park & Garden

From the Owner

Foolow is a scenic conservation village in the centre of the Peak District National Park. When Fern Cottage became available this made a perfect choice for us as a holiday cottage for our own use. A charming holiday cottage in a quiet location within a beautiful village at the crossroads of a number of footpaths and convenient for attractions such as Chatsworth, Castleton, Eyam, Bakewell, Haddon, Ladybower etc. We came to love the village and were extremely fortunate to be able to purchase Brosterfield Hall to make Foolow our permanent home in 1994.

Facilities

From the Owner

Fern Cottage dates from the 18th century and we have been anxious to maintain its character ensuring that more modern facilities such as the log fire range, the kitchen, the state of the art shower facilities, renewed window frames with double glazing, renewed central heating and other improvements do not detract from the ambience of a traditional holiday cottage with every comfort. We find that guests welcome the proximity of the Bull's Head in the village, a welcoming traditional Peak District Tavern with food.
