Fisherman's Cottage In Heart Of St Ives Just Moments From 3 Sandy Beaches

Overview

Property

Updated: 22-Nov-2016
Cottage in St Ives, Cornwall, England - Quiet Cottage, Suitable For A Couple Or A Famly, Close To The Harbour And Tate St Ives

Anchor Cottage, built round 1790, is part of a quiet terrace along a small cobbled cul-de-sac in the ancient down along part of St Ives. Once upon a time, or so the story goes, the cellar was storage space for pilchards in the days when the cottage backed directly onto Porthmeor Beach. Downstairs the living room and kitchen are larger than average and can comfortably absorb five people. Upstairs there is a double bedroom and a smaller room with two full-sized bunk beds. There is also a secret space under the eaves, known as The Cabin, perfect for a child of any age. It has a single bed which has, from time to time, been known to sleep a fully grown adult. There is a small, cosy bathroom. The cottage is moments on foot from three magnificent beaches - Porthmeor, Harbour and Porthgwidden, each facing in a different direction. Porthminster Beach, with its celebrated cafe, is about eight minutes walk away - even less when the tide is at its lowest.

Although our stay was in February, when we walked in to such a warm and friendly welcome, Anchor Cottage immediately felt like a cosy home from home. We discovered books and DVDs to entertain us and plentiful information about St Ives and the surrounding area. It is in a brilliant location for all the things one looks for in St Ives, including wonderful beaches within minutes of the cottage, as well as, of course, the Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Garden. (And the most delicious Cornish pasties we have ever tasted!)

Coast/Beach:

The cottage is within a few minutes walk of three beautiful sandy beaches. The nearest, which is called Porthmeor Beach (2 minutes walk away), is a world-famous surfing beach. Another, which is called Harbour Beach, is 3 minutes walk away. This is safe and sheltered and ideal for children of all ages with brightly coloured fishing boats, a jetty and a lifeboat station. There are beautiful cliff walks along the coastal path to Zennor one way and through the sand dunes to Hayle the other.

Travel:

There is no parking at the cottage but you are able to park outside in order to unload. There are several public car parks within easy reach but these get extremely busy in the high season. However, there is no need for a car in St Ives, as everything is within walking distance. The easiest way to get to St Ives is by train. The station is a 15 minutes walk away with excellent connections to main line sevices to London, the North and the Midlands. Newquay Airport is about 50 minutes drive away.
