Description

Candy Cottage Sleeps 3 (2 Bedrooms)

Candy Cottage is a mid terraced cottage, over looking the village green. It was originally a farm workers cottage built around 1860. The sitting room looks out across the village green, as does the main bedroom. The sitting room has a large comfy leather sofa and chair. The dining room has a quaint pine dresser and round dining table and 4 chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a door leading out to the fully enclosed and lockable rear garden. The main bedroom has a double bed, built in wardrobe, tallboy set of drawers and 2 bedside tables with lamps. The second bedroom has a 3ft single bed, wardrobe and bedside table and light. One small dog accepted in this cottage.

About the property

E7620

These charming self catering holiday cottages are situated in the heart of the Kent village of Rodmersham Green, opposite the village pond, the village green and open countryside. The cottages were built in 1860 as farm workers cottages, Old Post Cottage later became the post office and village shop. Full of traditional features they are the perfect base for exploring Kent throughout the year. Both these luxury cottages have recently been refurbished. Each cottage has two bedrooms and are beautifully decorated, providing a calm and peaceful ambience, with a cosy sitting room and separate dining room. Old Post Cottage and Candy Cottage are both 4* rated and have been awarded Green Tourism GOLD award by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS).

We run Green Cottages Kitchen; Baking and Cookery workshops in my own kitchen (not the cottages). Workshops include bread making; Sourdoughs etc. We have several different scheduled workshops. If guests request a specific date I will try to accommodate with a minimum of 2 participants.

About Monique Bonney

We have lived in Rodmersham for many years and know the area well. We enjoy walking up on the North Kent Downs and cycling along the No.1 cycle route and round the local villages. We care about the local environment and community and encourage our guests to explore the local area. We use flowers from our garden to decorate the cottages and provide seasonal home grown fruit and vegetables when available. We bake our own bread. We have sought to create cosy and comfortable self catering cottages that support local businesses and have a low impact on the surrounding environment. We have children and know what is required when travelling with them. We love the fact that you can drive to the coast in 25 minutes or stay put and soak up the country air. The best of both worlds.

Monique Bonney purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Monique Bonney chose Kent

We love the position of these cottages, overlooking the village green, adjacent to the pub and a few doors from the village shop/cafe. Rural life without being too remote, pop into the village cafe for coffee or into the village pub for a drink and dinner. Opposite the cottages is a footpath that takes you into beautiful fruit orchards. When we bought these cottages they were in desperate need of modernising and had been knocked into 1 dwelling. We completely renovated them including some major structural work, insulated them, replumbed and rewired them. Today they have all the modern facilities you would expect with a dose of 1860's charm!

What makes this cottage unique

We hire out bicycles to explore the area. Both the No.1 cycle route and the North Kent Downs are about 1 mile from the cottages. The cottages are a short drive (5/10 mins) from Sittingbourne, 15 mins from the historic town of Faversham and 25 mins from the beautiful cathedral city of Canterbury. You can look out of window at rural village life but in a short drive/cycle be town. There are plenty of good village pubs to explore, Leeds Castle is a short drive (15/20 mins). If you fancy curling up on the sofa you can surf the internet using our high speed broadband Wifi, watch a DVD or read one of our local interest books. For something really different you could take a Thames Barge sailing trip. We can provide stair gates, highchairs and a cot on request.

We run Green Cottages Kitchen; Baking and Cookery workshops in my own kitchen (not the cottages). Workshops include bread making; Sourdoughs etc. We have several different scheduled workshops. If guests request a specific date I will try to accommodate with a minimum of 2 participants.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed with our 2 month old baby and had everything we needed. Monique was lovely and made sure everything was ok a couple days before. The cottage was a great choice and we will be returning when visiting the area again.

A slice of heaven, a little oasis of calm and comfort in a lovely tranquil village

This cottage has been fitted out to a very high standard and has everything that you need for a relaxing break

Monique is on hand to help with anything that is needed by her guests

All in all, Candy Cottage is a pure delight

My stay was for 4 weeks whilst working in the area, and provided me with a true "home from home"

Highly recommended, and pet/child friendly too

Lovely cottage for Countryside break

  • 5 of 5

Spent two days in the cottage and had a fantastic time. The cottage was perfect for what we was looking for. Clean, cosy, quiet, and set in a beautiful location. Great for anyone looking for a relaxing weekend away. The cottage had everything we needed and was even supplied with a welcome pack of groceries. A family friendly cottage, great for those that like walks in the country. Would recommend to friends and looking forward to staying again soon.

Delightful cottage. Met our needs perfectly.

  • 4 of 5

Was the listing description was accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc? Yes.

Was the property clean and well-maintained? Yes.

Did the owner provide good customer service? We were grateful for the groceries waiting for us in the frig and kitchen upon our arrival. The only hitch was that the owner didn't email us the access instructions until the day prior to our arrival, and we were already on the airplane from Toronto, and so it was a struggle to gain entry initially. I would suggest that the ownersdirect checklist reinforce the need to issue access instructions a week before checkin date.

Would you recommend this property to your friends or relatives? Yes

What nearby activities, attractions and restaurants did you like or dislike? The team room next door. Sittingbourne downtown only 10 minutes away by car. Easy access to Canterbury, Dover, and the surrounding country-side lanes.

Wonderful cottage stay!

  • 4 of 5

The property was clean, well-equipped, quiet and ideally situated in the village. That the owner supplied milk, butter, juice and bread was a wonderfully thoughtful extra touch!

I will definitely return to this cozy cottage!

Cosy, family-friendly cottage in lovely location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Candy Cottage. Monique provided cot, high chair, stair gate and even toys, so our little ones (aged 2 and 10 months) were kept safe and entertained! The cottage is gorgeous - and impeccably clean, and has plenty to do nearby (Leeds Castle, the coast, country walks, Canterbury etc). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend

Christmas Break

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I (plus dog) enjoyed a wonderful few days in Candy Cottage. We had an horrendous journey down but the wonderful welcome pack of goodies made us feel at home straight away.

The cottage was small but well equipped and spotlessly clean - there was everything we needed to ensure we had a magical Christmas. I was able to cook two Christmas dinners for the family without difficulty and the high hair and cot came in very useful for my granddaughter. The stair gate was also appreciated.

The village was very pretty with the green on the doorstep and a choice of walks from the doorstep.

The cottage fitted the description perfectly and the local information pack was very detailed for those with more time to explore. The staircase was a little narrow and may cause those with mobility difficulties some problems.

I would definitely recommend the property to friends and family.
