About the Owner

We loved holidaying in the Lake District but never found a self-catering cottage that was suitable as one of our children uses a wheelchair. We bought Rothay Lodge & Apartment in 2003 and made both properties wheelchair accessible and provided everything that we would want from a holiday home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A Visitor book contains many kind comments about how lovely and warm the property is and what a great holiday was had. Also, when returning the key in the stamped envelope provided, guests have often included a note thanking me, saying it was like a home from home and often re-booking for the following year.

This is our second stay at Rothay Lodge and we have already booked again. We are a group of 9 friends. The house is well equpped and excellently maintained. Owners are friendly and helpful. Wonderful position in Grasmere.

A most memorable week

  • 5 of 5

We booked Rothay Lodge for our small wedding party and had a truly wonderful week which hold very special memories for us. The lodge was everything we expected and more. A home from home with the added bonus of the stunning views and beautiful gardens. We were lucky enough to meet the owners who were staying in the apartment next door and were very helpful and accommodating. We hired a local chef called Nick Foster for the wedding meal which I can highly recommend. The food and the waitress service were exceptional and very reasonably priced. We were blessed with good weather which enabled us to go on several walks and admire the breath taking views of this wonderful part of the Lake District. There are several good walks from Grasmere. No need to take the car!

We called into Tweedies Bar for the local beer festival and had a great evening. I would highly recommend Rothay Lodge as the perfect house for your stay in Grasmere. You will not be disappointed.

Superb house and location

  • 5 of 5

A superb house with a 'homely' feel in a great location on the outskirts of the village. Four generations ranging from 7 to 88 all enjoyed the week. We hope to return in the future.

an ideal place for a family get-together

  • 5 of 5

This was an ideal place in which to celebrate my 90th. birthday with my family (4 generations) from both sides of the "pond". It was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen and provision of crockery and glassware was more than adequate. And with 4 granddaughters every bedroom being en-suite was a blessing!. The energetic ones found good walks straight from the house. We found that Tesco delivered the large grocery order to the door. We all had a marvellous week.

great family house in perfect Lakeland location

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week together in Rothay Lodge with ten of us round the table and we enjoyed both the house and Grasmere village being a short stroll away.

The Travellers Rest pub just a short walk up the road was good for food and Tweedies Bar in the village was the best for beers.

Lucia's coffee shack was a treat in the morning whilst getting the papers.

Helm Crag was a superb day out and do-able for both younger kids and arthritic grown ups but feels like a real Lakeland summit.

Stunning house

  • 5 of 5

Rothay Lodge is amazing. The kitchen is superb with every piece of equipment you could wish for. The bedrooms are very comfortable and having all the bathrooms was a great bonus. Panoramic views all round and a beautiful garden.
